【31】 Because I Am Chasing You
DS replied to the email very quickly.
Wen Ran added the person in charge on WeChat, and the other party asked him to come for a trial training in three days.
The DS Club was located in this city, only a little over half an hour’s drive away.
The trial period was one week, and for confidentiality, he had to stay at the base for those days.
Before things were settled, Wen Ran hadn’t planned to tell Song Zixuan and the others. But Song Zixuan kept asking him what he was going to do out for so long, worried he might run into bad people. Wen Ran couldn’t withstand his pestering and soft grinding, so he had to say he was going for a trial.
“Trial training?!” Song Zixuan’s eyes lit up instantly. “Wen Ran, you’re going to join a pro team?”
“What did I say? I knew your skills definitely shouldn’t be wasted in online games!”
Wen Ran gave an “Mn.”
Song Zixuan quickly continued, “Then when are you going?”
Wen Ran: “Tomorrow.”
The agreed trial time was 8:00 AM. Wen Ran set his alarm for the next day and crawled up at 6:00 AM.
Wen Ran grabbed a hoodie at random and pulled it on. But he didn’t expect that as soon as he opened the door, he would see Jiang Yan standing there leisurely with his arms crossed, looking at him.
Wen Ran was startled, and he glared at him fiercely. “What are you doing?”
Jiang Yan raised his eyebrows. “Driving you there.”
“Aren’t you going for a trial?”
This person really is…
Wen Ran muttered stubbornly, “Who needs you to drive me…”
Five minutes later, the stubborn kitten was sitting in the passenger seat, with the breakfast Jiang Yan bought for him placed beside him.
Xiao long bao and hot milk.
“You still need to eat breakfast. Your stomach isn’t good, so you need to pay more attention.”
“You’re so noisy. Even my dad never managed me like this,” Wen Ran huffed, stealing a glance at Jiang Yan. The smooth lines of his neck disappeared into his collar, and his collarbones were exquisite and beautiful.
Why does he like wearing shirts so much?
It’s actually quite good-looking.
Wen Ran was startled by this thought that popped up. He hurriedly lowered his head to drink the milk, but because he drank too urgently, he choked.
White milk foam hung on the edge of his thin, red, soft lips.
Truly fatal.
Jiang Yan casually pulled out a tissue and handed it to Wen Ran. “Wipe it.”
“Mn?”
Wen Ran didn’t know why he should waste a piece of paper. Instead of taking the tissue from Jiang Yan’s hand, he stuck out his tender red tongue and licked the milk stain back in.
He even looked at him with innocent, wet eyes.
Jiang Yan’s arm muscles tightened. This little scoundrel.
I really want to kiss him to death.
Wen Ran himself was completely unaware of how seductive his action just now was. He asked Jiang Yan somewhat strangely, “It’s not the weekend today. Don’t you have classes?”
“Sending you off first.”
This “first” made Wen Ran slightly stunned.
“Why?”
Jiang Yan looked at him with amusement. “Because I am chasing you.”
“Is it not obvious enough? I thought you could tell.”
“You… I…” Wen Ran stuttered. A heap of curses was stuck in his throat, but not a single word could pop out.
Could it be that when Jiang Yan came to talk to him about dating before, he really wasn’t joking?
“Otherwise, why would I help you every time?” Jiang Yan said. “Could it be that I’m an angel with a monthly quota for helping others?”
Wen Ran: “…”
—
After arriving at the base, the person in charge, Zhang Xu, came out to meet him.
“I’ve already told you the points to note on WeChat,” Zhang Xu said. “Is there anything else you don’t understand?”
“No.”
“Alright then, let’s go to the training room now.”
Although it was a sunny day outside, the curtains in the training room were drawn, and the lights were on. There were only a sparse few people inside, and the sound of clack-clack keyboard tapping could be heard.
When Wen Ran was in the WK youth training camp before, although the training room was small, it was bright and cheerful. Everyone in the youth camp worked hard, and it was almost always full no matter the time.
Just as Wen Ran was arranged to sit down by Zhang Xu, a figure stood at the door.
Yexin walked over slowly, sizing up Wen Ran. “This is the new Mid Laner recruited by the team?”
Zhang Xu nodded. “Yes, but he hasn’t done the trial yet. Do you want to test him personally?”
Yexin scoffed. “Just find someone from the second team. Why call me?”
“I’m going to stream.”
Yexin didn’t take Wen Ran seriously at all. He was just a cheap substitute used to comfort the fans that they had recruited a newcomer. Once his suspension period was over, this guy was just material for watching the water cooler.
Wen Ran didn’t take his display of authority to heart either. Whether one was good or not wasn’t determined by words; it had to be fought for with strength. He had watched Yexin’s matches. His individual strength was indeed strong, but Wen Ran had actually matched against him in Peak Tournament and even won against him twice.
Wen Ran stayed here for seven days. Every day was filled with training matches, keeping him so busy that he didn’t even have time to reply to messages.
The coaching team had originally planned to rot and wait for Yexin this season, but they didn’t expect Wen Ran to practically slaughter the opponents they found.
This was simply picking up a treasure!
Therefore, after winning the last individual match, Zhang Xu immediately came to find him with the contract.
“Wen Ran, you have passed the trial. The contract is drafted according to the treatment of a first-team player. Take a look. If there are no problems, sign it.”
Wen Ran took a cursory look and didn’t see anything wrong, so he signed his name.
Zhang Xu nodded with satisfaction, then continued, “However, there is one more thing I need to tell you. You need to change your ID.”
“It will be submitted to the League for registration later,” Zhang Xu said. “The rule is that it cannot exceed four Chinese characters.”
A pro player’s in-game ID and registered ID were different. The in-game ID could be whatever one wanted, but the registered ID represented one’s professional identity, so it couldn’t be so arbitrary.
“Also…” Zhang Xu looked troubled. “It’s best not to use an ID with mocking or insulting nature.”
Wen Ran: “What?”
Zhang Xu bit the bullet: “Like yours.”
Wen Ran: “…”
Wen Ran didn’t hesitate much and wrote down his registered ID on the contract: Dawn.
“Dawn…” Zhang Xu looked at it. “This ID is not bad. Alright then, I’ll add you to the group chat in a bit. There’s nothing else for today; you’re free to move about.”
Wen Ran didn’t know anyone at the base. It just so happened that Song Zixuan messaged him to ask how it went. Hearing that he passed, Song Zixuan insisted on celebrating for him and ordered a table full of dishes.
Wen Ran thought it would just be the two of them, but when he arrived, he found Jiang Yan was there too.
He had been deliberately avoiding Jiang Yan’s messages these past few days, plus he was busy. The two hadn’t spoken for a week. Seeing him abruptly, Wen Ran felt a bit awkward.
Wen Ran could actually feel Jiang Yan’s gaze constantly on him, but he didn’t want to respond. He could only pretend not to see it and lowered his head to peel shrimp.
Absent-minded, he peeled the shrimp into a mess.
The two of them had their own thoughts, and only Song Zixuan was kept in the dark. He looked at Jiang Yan strangely: “Brother, why are you only peeling and not eating?”
Jiang Yan clicked his tongue. “Why are you looking at me? Mind yourself.”
“Tch, why so fierce?” Song Zixuan pouted.
Must be because he sees Wen Ran became a pro player, and since he himself hasn’t played a serious match, he’s jealous.
Taking it out on the poor shrimp.
Halfway through the meal, Song Zixuan suddenly had a stomachache. Shouting “I can’t make it,” he rushed to the restroom.
Only the two of them were left.
Wen Ran felt the surrounding atmosphere become awkward. Just as he wanted to get up and go out to hide, an arm blocked his way.
Jiang Yan looked down from above, confining him in a narrow space. “Trying to run? Little friend, escaping is shameful.”
