Part 2
The commercial shoot was chosen for a weekend. Wen Ran took a car to the venue. Ling Han arrived a few minutes before him.
“Dawn, I’m Lu Xingye, ID Ling Han. We met at the last match.” The other party wasn’t cold at all and took the initiative to greet him.
“Wen Ran.”
“Since both are here, let me explain the shooting points to you.”
The director called both of them over.
The similarity between Guishuang and esports lay in being refreshing and daring to fight, so this shoot couldn’t do without water.
Ling Han’s face was extremely recognizable, handsome in an aggressive way. It showed under the lens too; the shots looked particularly good.
Both of them were esports players, so the requirements naturally weren’t as high as for stars. If the shots weren’t awkward, it was considered pretty good.
The most NG (No Good) takes were of the eye contact between him and Ling Han. The director kept saying they couldn’t capture that feeling. Wen Ran didn’t know what feeling he was talking about. The plot was him feeling down after losing a match, and Ling Han coming over to comfort him with sparkling wine.
Pretending to hand him the wine, then pulling back when he reached out, causing him to stumble forward, leading to eye contact.
The two of them were almost numb. Finally, the director mentioned, “You can imagine you are shooting with the girl you like.”
Wen Ran thought of Jiang Yan. Ling Han thought of who knows who. Their eyes instantly changed.
Extreme ambiguous tension, almost enough to make people ship them immediately.
It was just a commercial; Wen Ran didn’t understand why it had to be shot like this, but he had already signed the contract and taken their money, so he couldn’t breach it.
Ling Han was a nice person. When they finished shooting, he offered to treat Wen Ran to a meal. After all, they were “partners.” Wen Ran didn’t refuse.
When Ling Han handed him things, he would politely reply with a thank you.
“Dawn, you’re nothing like what they say online,” Ling Han found it interesting.
Wen Ran: “What am I like online?”
“Not very positive.” Ling Han still didn’t voice the evaluation of ‘fierce, petty, and loves being people’s daddy,’ changing to a more euphemistic way:
“Anyway, I feel there’s a bit of deviation.”
Their STE fined people for swearing, but Wen Ran had been a high-class telegraph (censor beep machine) since his debut.
The reason it was “high-class” was that apart from a high content of “Daddy,” he almost never used dirty words.
“However, Dawn, your mechanics are really strong.”
“Thanks, you too.”
This wasn’t Wen Ran being socially polite. Ling Han’s mechanics were indeed very strong; the title of the league’s top side laner was definitely not in vain.
“Next time we meet, it’ll be at the grand finals,” Ling Han said. “Last match was practically played for fun; didn’t really get to experience your strength.”
“Looking forward to the day I compete with you on the stage.”
Wen Ran and Ling Han exchanged contact information and returned to their respective bases.
Just as Jiang Yan expected, STE won the match between HG and STE.
The highly anticipated Grand Finals opened amidst expectations.
In the Winter Challenge Cup, if one side won, the FMVP player could choose a hero from the winning games to get a corresponding skin.
A symbol of honor!
Therefore, before this match started, many people were betting online.
[I think STE will win. After all, STE is fierce! Look at which team beaten by them isn’t strong? Before STE, they are all little brothers.]
[WK isn’t bad, okay? They’ve always been in Group S. With Wind returning this season and reinforcements, their momentum looks fierce to me.]
[I think so too. Wind, that’s Wind. Is there anyone who doesn’t know how capable and commanding he is? Does anyone still need a lesson?]
[The person above probably forgot about Dawn. Although this cancer is a bit sharp-tongued, he has skills. Plus, he rubbed the league’s strongest mid laner on the ground. What does he have to fear!]
[STE is different from other teams. They are simply strong in a league of their own. Playing against anyone is almost a crush.]
[I still support our Dawn. Go Little Sprayer, Mama is optimistic about you!]
[Obviously the champion is STE, okay? How many consecutive championships has STE won? WK can’t compare.]
[I only believe in Wind. Go God Yan!]
……
After days of analysis and practice, WK had prepared some methods and systems to deal with STE. Now they just hoped to utilize them on the field.
The Grand Finals was a Best of 7. As long as one side won four games, they would take the championship.
In the first game, STE pulled out their signature lineup.
Everyone’s operation and awareness were online. Wen Ran played under huge pressure because the opponent’s support was incredibly fast, and their coordination was excellent. Whenever Wen Ran wanted to engage Xu Jiajia, the support would immediately block skills.
Many of their coordinated tactics were dismantled by the opponent.
The consequence of wasting skills without catching anyone was getting counter-ganked. WK was beaten back steadily, practically without the power to fight back.
STE ultimately won the first game.
Score 0:1.
In the second game, they picked Ling Han’s Warrior Side Laner.
Currently, the league’s side laners all made their names with Warrior sides. Ling Han could reach a value of 17 million relying on his formidable Warrior side play.
They had formed a specialized lineup system.
As the strongest active side laner, Ling Han used his fame-making warrior. There was simply no way to counter it. STE won the second game as well.
Score 0:2.
[What kind of stuff is WK playing tonight! I’m truly speechless.]
[Huge problem with BP (Ban/Pick). Giving STE two of their lineups.]
[Coach, wake up! If you keep playing like this, you’ll lose!]
[What did I say? STE are invincible gods. No one can beat them.]
In the third game, changes began to appear in the hero BP.
STE picked a very common bot lane duo, Mirror Moon and Little Flower Fairy, which was standard. But the side laners and mid laners needed to coordinate with them were banned.
Wen Ran picked Flame God.
Commentator A got a little excited. “Flame God! Dawn picked Flame God! This Flame God pick is beautiful!”
Commentator B said, “Yes, Flame God counters Mirror Moon heavily. Mirror Moon isn’t mobile; the advantage is physical damage immunity, but faced with Flame God’s pursuit, there’s basically no solution. Little Flower Fairy can’t protect her.”
“And in the second game, the heroes that counter Flame God were already used,” Commentator A said. “This round, STE’s core is Mirror Moon. It’s going to be hard to play.”
Indeed, as the commentators said, Mirror Moon’s survival space was incredibly small. Flame God was accurate with every cut. After cutting in, he could use his own mechanics to escape gracefully. Without counters, the unchecked Flame God’s output was terrifying. And because the ADC was cut down first every time, STE didn’t dare to take team fights.
The economic gap grew larger and larger. STE had no room to fight back and could only go out to clear lines, not daring to fight head-on.
And as soon as they went out, they would be caught and solo-killed by Jiang Yan.
Finally, at seventeen minutes, the game ended.
The score came to 1:2.
In the fourth game, they gave Wen Ran Ghost Wa.
This hero had fast support speed and very long range; usually, mid laners could rarely get close to her.
And the damage was explosive. After stacking CD reduction, she was hard to counter. Coordinating with Jiang Yan’s Ling (Hero Name), they initiated several good team fights and won easily.
Score 2:2!
This was actually the method Jiang Yan came up with. He watched all of STE’s match videos, then studied their BP and systems. In the first and second games, he pretended to inadvertently “release” these lineups to them, but in reality, it was to use up certain counter heroes.
In “Ling Xiao” matches, once a hero was used, it could not be fielded again unless it was the ultimate tie-breaker (Peak Duel).
And they had practiced some new systems, conducting extremely targeted training according to these counter chains.
Facts proved it was very effective.
In the fifth game, Ninja Spirit was released.
Although it was a tough fight, as long as Ninja Spirit’s ability to force fights and assassinate the carry existed, it was like a hanging blade.
What’s more, there was Jiang Yan.
Even if you could block Ninja Spirit, you couldn’t block Sharp Shadow (Rui Ying).
Two high-damage assassins, coupled with the opponent’s ADC supplementing damage—without suspense, WK won again.
Score 3:2.
The match point game was coming.
Commentator A: “WK is in quite good form now. They’ve reached match point. I wonder if WK will continue the style of the previous games to take it in one go, or if STE will turn the tables so we can see a Peak Duel.”
Commentator B: “I think we have to praise Dawn tonight. His mages, no matter which one, were all brilliant. Now that WK has won three games, he has taken three MVPs.”
Commentator A: “Dawn is indeed amazing. I wonder what surprise he will bring us in this game.”
However, when Wen Ran made his selection, it shocked some people.
Wen Ran picked Gu Ling.
“This hero, Gu Ling, it’s not that she isn’t strong, it’s just… we’ve never seen Dawn take her on the professional stage.”
The commentator voiced the audience’s thoughts. “Match point game, finals game, picking a hero he hasn’t played before. This move… I can’t judge it well.”
Jiang Yan brought out Wu Jian (Infernal).
This round, they were playing Jungle Core.
They just swapped Wen Ran’s familiar Ah Ji for Gu Ling.
He and Jiang Yan had practiced this coordination many times, but no one had ever used it on the professional stage.
Therefore, seeing Jiang Yan and Wen Ran coordinating tacitly to kill people and tower-dive to heal, the bullet comments in the livestream turned into [???].
This was the killer move he saved, precisely to catch the opponent off guard and take the match in one fell swoop!
Sure enough, STE simply didn’t know how to dismantle it. They muddled through for twenty minutes before their crystal was pushed!
“The crystal is down! Let us congratulate WK! Winning the Grand Championship of this Winter Challenge Cup!”
Wen Ran subconsciously looked at Jiang Yan beside him. The other smiled at him and mouthed: “We won.”
