Chapter 85: Also Solved the Marriage Issue part 1
“Wen Ran, I hope you can be luckier, and better.”
Nan Xi’s voice was deep, yet penetrating.
Wen Ran held that lucky bead in his hand. “Thank you, I will keep it safe.”
Nan Xi chatted casually with him for a couple more sentences before hanging up.
Nan Xi had watched the Grand Finals too. He had watched what Wen Ran said on stage after winning the championship many times.
Who was that person he spoke of?
To Wen Ran, like light.
Someone online said it was the coach; someone said it might be a warm elder.
But Nan Xi knew clearly that this person wasn’t him.
He had never accompanied Wen Ran during his lowest points; this was a scar in his heart that couldn’t be smoothed over.
Too late. He had missed so many of Wen Ran’s events. He only hoped to use the rest of his life to accompany him and make up for his mistakes.
But would Wen Ran give him this chance?
Nan Xi didn’t know.
On the day of returning to D City, as soon as Wen Ran left the station, he met Song Zixuan who came to pick them up.
“Brother, Wen Ran… ah no, Sister-in-law!”
Come to think of it, Song Zixuan hadn’t seen him in quite a while.
“Wu wu, I really know I was wrong. I shouldn’t have spouted nonsense back then.” Although Song Zixuan had already apologized to Wen Ran, he still worried about the previous incident.
As the saying goes, better to tear down ten temples than ruin a marriage.
He almost drove away his brother’s wife!
Song Zixuan had been living in fear for those two days, eating and sleeping poorly every day, afraid that if he wasn’t careful, Jiang Yan would kill him.
Jiang Yan reached out and patted his head. “Have some discernment. Don’t bring up pots that aren’t boiling.”
It wasn’t until they got home that Song Zixuan poured out the bellyful of questions he had been holding back. “Brother, are you really Wind?”
The version he knew was clearly that he messed around in wild teams outside, the miserable kind.
He always thought Jiang Yan’s gaming level was about the same as his, so he never asked him to play games.
As a result, he actually missed out on a hidden Jungle King—no, Jungle Daddy!
Jiang Yan glanced at this disappointing younger brother. “The league has announcements, can’t you read?”
Song Zixuan: “……”
“I just can’t believe it.” Song Zixuan shook his head. “A God was actually by my side.”
However, fortunately, he wasn’t a Wind fan. Otherwise, having his idol turn into his brother would be too terrifying.
“Then why didn’t you show your face back then?” Song Zixuan had also played “Ling Xiao” for a long time, so of course he knew about Wind. “I remember you were already quite handsome in high school. No, wait, you’ve never been ugly since childhood. It couldn’t be shyness, right?”
“Or did you want to be low-key and act cool?”
Jiang Yan: “……”
Song Zixuan couldn’t figure it out anyway. If he had those skills, he would wish to dress up every day and walk sideways (strutting)!
And with Wind’s influence, he definitely could have gained a lot of fans back then.
If it were purely Song Zixuan being curious, Jiang Yan wouldn’t have wasted his breath.
But seeing Wen Ran’s face also written full of curiosity, Jiang Yan forcefully swallowed back the phrase “Don’t ask about things that don’t concern you.”
“Because I left by taking a leave of absence from school,” Jiang Yan said. “Same nature as you running away from home. Wasn’t it just not wanting to be found?”
Song Zixuan thought about it; that was true. That was Liqing University, an institution dreamed of by so many. Whose child getting in wouldn’t warrant hanging a huge banner to celebrate bringing honor to the ancestors? Jiang Yan was praised endlessly for getting in via guaranteed admission back then.
His uncle (Jiang’s dad) was so happy for those few days; his ears almost grew calluses from hearing “teaching the son well” and “tiger father begets no dog son.”
His own mother nagged for days: Look at your cousin, guaranteed admission. Look at you, only knowing how to eat, drink, play, and sleep every day.
“You know my dad looked down on this and always thought I was fooling around.” Jiang Yan said, “Moreover, when I went out to compete, I didn’t even have a formally registered team. Playing with netizens in internet cafes every day—do you think if my dad knew, he would agree?”
“Absolutely not!” Song Zixuan understood his uncle too well. He had specially held a banquet for Jiang Yan back then, inviting many guests, just to celebrate his entry into that university. As a result, less than a month into school, he took a leave of absence and ran off to fool around in internet cafes.
If it were him, he would have dragged him back for a beating too.
“Then why didn’t you tell Uncle you were the champion? Champion, hey!”
Jiang Yan: “I already promised him to finish my studies properly. No matter what, I have to take the diploma back, right?”
“So you held it in and never said anything?” Song Zixuan simply couldn’t imagine.
Jiang Yan said lightly, “It’s not that big of a deal.”
I reasonably suspect you are showing off.
Listening to Jiang Yan’s narration, Wen Ran felt the other was even more outstanding.
In the past, he would subconsciously feel that someone like him wasn’t worthy.
But after experiencing so much, wrapped in Jiang Yan’s love, Wen Ran no longer felt as inferior as before.
If he blindly avoided and blindly felt inferior, besides adding pressure to himself, it would also make Jiang Yan sad.
The look Wen Ran gave Jiang Yan held a few more degrees of adoration.
“Wait a minute,” Song Zixuan suddenly seemed to think of something. “Wen Ran, aren’t you a fan of Wind?”
“That autograph before was taken from me!”
Song Zixuan looked at the two of them in horror. “So, you got together with your own fan?”
Jiang Yan: “……”
Wen Ran: “……”
Taking advantage of the holiday, Jiang Yan went back home.
His relationship with his family had eased a lot now. Although Father Jiang often didn’t give him a pleasant face, he probably wouldn’t get beaten for going home.
Originally, he wanted to bring Wen Ran home to visit, but Wen Ran wasn’t ready yet and refused no matter what.
He even found a hot water bottle from somewhere and hid it in the quilt to fake a fever.
“Really can’t make it,” Wen Ran coughed twice. “Jiang Yan, it’s not that I don’t want to go back with you.”
“I have a severe fever now.” Saying that, he handed over a thermometer.
“42 degrees.” Jiang Yan looked at his flushed cheeks. The little bastard’s eyes were dodging a bit. He pretended to be scared. “So severe?”
“Then let’s go to the hospital quickly.”
Jiang Yan pretended to pick him up. Wen Ran was so scared he immediately held down his hand. “Song Zixuan already went to buy medicine for me. I’ll take a pill and sleep for a while, and I’ll be fine.”
He said with a face full of regret, “You can only go back by yourself.”
“You’re like this, how could Brother bear to leave you behind?” As Jiang Yan spoke, taking advantage of the little bastard’s inattention, he yanked Wen Ran’s quilt off.
He raised an eyebrow at the large hot water bottle he was hugging. “42 degrees?”
“You’re not reasonable at all!” Wen Ran glared at him angrily and sat up from the bed. “Actually lifting someone’s quilt!”
Jiang Yan pulled his arm and saw that he even had heating pads stuck to his body.
Why so cute.
He reached out and peeled them off for him. “Aren’t you hot?”
He took the opportunity to pull Wen Ran into his arms.
Because of the artificial heating, Wen Ran was steaming all over, feeling particularly comfortable to hold.
“Brother was too anxious.” Jiang Yan pinched his face. “Mainly because my partner is too good; I really want to introduce you to my parents.”
“Anyway, we have to meet sooner or later.”
“But since you’re not ready, Brother won’t force you.”
Wen Ran was truly not ready. He didn’t know what image to present to Jiang Yan’s parents, nor did he know how to communicate with them, as someone from a broken family with almost no experience interacting with elders.
Jiang Yan was so outstanding, so his parents must be excellent too.
Would they look favorably upon someone like him?
Wen Ran wanted to wait until he grew a bit more, at least won another championship, saved money to buy a house and a car. Only when he had enough money to support Jiang Yan, could he at least make Jiang Yan’s parents accept him materially.
Jiang Yan’s home wasn’t in D City; he took a plane back.
He had a house key too. As soon as he stepped through the door, he saw Mother Jiang and Father Jiang sitting in the living room drinking tea.
“Mom, I’m back.”
“Jiang Yan?”
Mother Jiang’s pupils shook slightly, then were replaced by surprise on her face. “Why are you back now?”
“You child, didn’t even say a word in advance before coming home.”
Mother Jiang walked over quickly, grabbing Jiang Yan’s arm. “Seems a bit thinner.”
Jiang Yan glanced at Father Jiang over there and counted silently in his heart.
Three, two, one.
Sure enough, Father Jiang didn’t drink the tea he was holding. He brought it to his lips then put it back on the table. “Who gave him the key? Hmph, call someone to change the lock this afternoon.”
Mother Jiang pouted. “This is him being angry you didn’t call him about coming back.”
Jiang Yan smiled and spoke to his father. “Dad, I’m back.”
“I don’t care if you’re back or not,” Father Jiang huffed through his nose. “Aren’t you quite capable? I see you’re playing games quite happily.”
“Ignore him, he’s just like that.” Mother Jiang glared at Father Jiang over there. “Don’t know who dug out photos of Jiang Yan when he was little and looked at them for half a day just two days ago.”
“Jiang Yan, come sit over here first.” Mother Jiang grabbed Jiang Yan’s arm and led him to the sofa first. “How many days are you staying this time?”
“Four or five days. Haven’t accompanied you guys in a long time.” Jiang Yan looked at Father Jiang opposite. “Dad, play a game of chess with you later?”
Father Jiang glared at him and didn’t speak.
The biggest conflict with his family was when he took a leave of absence to play games; that had truly angered his father.
Since childhood, Father Jiang played the role of a strict father. Under his discipline, Jiang Yan excelled in almost everything, following the direction he envisioned. Father Jiang never expected the son he always viewed with pride to do something so rebellious.
That was why he used money to threaten him to come back back then. This matter became a knot in both their hearts.
Jiang Yan did come back and studied seriously at school, but he was always reluctant to go home because even if he came back, Father Jiang didn’t give him a pleasant face.
He would scold him for fooling around and not doing honest work. The father-son relationship was once very tense.
Later, when Jiang Yan chose to return to professional play, he did call home.
Before Father Jiang could speak, Jiang Yan explained his situation clearly first. “Rest assured about the diploma, I’ll definitely get it. At that time, maybe you’ll even speak on stage as a representative of an outstanding student.”
Father Jiang was almost angered to death. “What kind of outstanding student are you?”
