Chapter 33: The Dangerous Man part 1
Mǐ Qiū laughed awkwardly, dropped the subject, and continued riding the Star Wheel Vehicle. She felt they were venturing further and further into a remote area, somewhere towards the northernmost edge of the galaxy.
The “Star Donkey” was just a type of riding tool here. Mǐ Qiū and Fù Róngqīng each rode one. Mǐ Qiū discovered it was an electronic, automated vehicle shaped like a donkey, but it still had four small wheels at its base. She wasn’t quite used to it at first.
Eventually, she and Fù Róngqīng arrived at their final destination. Mǐ Qiū looked around; the area seemed covered in yellow sand. She had to put on a protective face mask to prevent sand from getting into her nose and mouth.
It was genuinely cold here, with strong winds and lots of dust, making it impossible for Mǐ Qiū to open her eyes for a while.
Even though she was wearing tall boots, long pants, and a thick coat, it was hard to resist the sandstorm. The wind constantly found gaps to sneak into her pants. Not far ahead was the Confinement Tower. Inside, four A-class Sentinels had been guarding the tower all this time.
One of the Sentinels seemed to have received the news and opened the gate for them, but said only one person was allowed further inside.
So Mǐ Qiū followed the Sentinel in alone. As she passed through the layers of restrictions within the tower, the smell of rust grew heavier the deeper she went…
Mǐ Qiū could even hear the echo here. Following the Sentinel for about two hundred meters, he finally stopped. It was damp and dark here, unlike the sky full of yellow sand outside. It was quiet and empty, with only the sound of boots on the ground. Soon, Mǐ Qiū truly saw him. The man had his back to her, seemingly resting with his eyes closed.
Mǐ Qiū didn’t disturb him. After waiting for about 20 minutes, the man suddenly turned around. There were no chains binding his hands or feet, nor was he wearing prison garb. Instead, he wore the Sentinel uniform befitting an S-class Sentinel, complete with a military cap. There was no sign of fatigue or weariness in his demeanor.
Qiū Chú Huán stood tall. His sword-like eyebrows were broken at the peak by an old scar, making him look fierce. Mǐ Qiū greeted him cautiously, but he ignored her at first. Clearly, he didn’t know Mǐ Qiū’s identity.
After Mǐ Qiū explained, the man said in a deep voice, “Are you here to pick me up? Little Guide. But I’ve been here for five years, and I’m too lazy to go out now! If you’re here to get me out of the tower, save your energy.”
Mǐ Qiū: “Once we get to the island, I can soothe your spiritual body. If successful, you won’t need to stay in this confinement tower forever. It’s cold here, and the climate is harsh. Staying in such an environment is bad for your health.”
“How I am seems to have nothing to do with you, Guide Mǐ. I don’t understand what you’re trying to express to me.”
Seeing her somewhat helpless expression, Qiū Chú Huán’s interest was piqued—not because of anything else, but because of her.
Having been locked in this prison for so long, he had gradually forgotten what it felt like to have a woman. Let alone have one, there were only those few Sentinels here, making every day dull and boring, with male scents repelling each other.
It was his first time smelling the female scent on Mǐ Qiū. The woman looked frail, with red lips and flushed cheeks, a pitiable sight.
While Mǐ Qiū spoke, he kept staring at her face. Qiū Chú Huán said, “I’ve thought about it carefully. You can take me away, but on one condition: you have to agree to a request of mine.”
Since it was a guest’s request, Mǐ Qiū naturally agreed. He said to her, “Besides my subordinates, I haven’t made requests to anyone else. You’re one of them!”
Mǐ Qiū nodded. Qiū Chú Huán said slowly, “Let’s talk about this on the island. I like to maintain a sense of mystery. Saying it too early would spoil the fun!”
Mǐ Qiū was puzzled. “If you don’t say it, how can I agree?”
“You can choose not to agree for now. Anyway, I’ve changed my mind.”
Mǐ Qiū now understood why Qiū Chú Huán’s personality was described as changeable. He truly was eccentric.
He seemed reluctant to leave the tower before, but now he not only wanted to leave but also seemed to hide a secret here. However, she remained in a state of confusion throughout.
The A-class Sentinel didn’t stand far from her. Mǐ Qiū softly called him over, and the Sentinel stood still, releasing Qiū Chú Huán. With Qiū Chú Huán’s intelligence, leaving the confinement tower wouldn’t have been difficult, yet he hadn’t done so.
A man’s figure approached her. He was nearly two meters tall, so when standing with Mǐ Qiū, his shadow completely enveloped her small figure. Mǐ Qiū looked up at him; the dim yellow light shrouded their faces.
Mǐ Qiū couldn’t see him clearly. When Qiū Chú Huán got closer, Mǐ Qiū involuntarily swallowed. Qiū Chú Huán had to say, “Guide Mǐ, don’t be afraid of me. I’m not a bad person, otherwise how will you soothe me later?”
Mǐ Qiū knew this, of course. The A-class Sentinel standing by handed him a form, and Qiū Chú Huán naturally took the pen and wrote his information. The confinement tower had held many headache-inducing interstellar prisoners who left once their sentences were up.
But Qiū Chú Huán was different. The reason he was locked up was his naturally violent temper, which showed signs of worsening.
The white noise playing 24 hours a day in the tower controlled his emotional problems. Although not very appropriate, it was the most effective method.
It could be said that Qiū Chú Huán’s sentence in the tower was indefinite. The higher-ups were giving him a chance, and this trip to the island was the best one.
Qiū Chú Huán was picked up. Mǐ Qiū had now received two guests, but she knew she still had to pick up the third one. She couldn’t leave just like this. The three of them left the confinement tower together.
Fù Róngqīng had been sitting outside waiting for a long time. Seeing them walk out, he went straight to Mǐ Qiū. Mǐ Qiū happened to have something to tell them.
Fù Róngqīng seemed to guess something and asked her, “You’re going on your own next, right?”
“Mhm, Commander Fù. This is the island map in my backpack. I think it will be useful for your journey.”
Qiū Chú Huán glanced at Fù Róngqīng with disdain in his eyes. “Guide Mǐ, I just got here, and you’re abandoning me?”
Mǐ Qiū quickly waved her hands. She didn’t mean that. She just didn’t want the guests to run around for this. These trivial matters were hers to worry about. After all, Officer Hè didn’t know about her going with Fù Róngqīng to find another guest.
Mǐ Qiū: “I’ve already searched the route on my light-brain and made a plan. Since I still have to find the last guest, I really don’t want to trouble you.”
Fù Róngqīng said “Oh.” He could see Mǐ Qiū was troubled and conflicted, so he said, “Alright, Guide Mǐ, you can do as you wish. I still wanted to go with you, but it seems difficult to insert myself into your mission right now.”
Fù Róngqīng figured it out. It was better for Mǐ Qiū to do this herself.
He wouldn’t interfere, but given her tendency to get lost, he told her the entire route for the second leg of the journey and the communication methods, just in case Mǐ Qiū made a mistake, which would not only delay the journey but potentially pose other dangers.
Qiū Chú Huán, however, didn’t understand her. He sensed a strong male hostility coming from the man beside Mǐ Qiū.
He kept talking to her, clearly very familiar with Guide Mǐ. Qiū Chú Huán didn’t like this feeling and said to Mǐ Qiū, “Guide Mǐ, I think if you leave, this trip will become very boring.”
Before Mǐ Qiū could speak, Fù Róngqīng introduced himself to him: “I forgot to introduce myself just now. Fù Róngqīng. Officer Qiū, I’ve always heard your name but never met you. Honestly, after seeing you, I think we can become good friends.”
“But regarding Guide Mǐ’s matter, I think it’s better not to interfere. Since there’s a map, returning to the island will only take a few days.”
Qiū Chú Huán wasn’t interested in a word he said. He could choose to stay or leave. It wasn’t because of seeing Mǐ Qiū that he would stay here forever. After all, a place that could quiet his mind like this was rare.
Qiū Chú Huán respected Mǐ Qiū’s decision and said, “Alright, Guide Mǐ. It’s a pity we can’t go together, but it doesn’t matter. There will be plenty of time in the future.”
After parting ways, Mǐ Qiū embarked on her journey alone. She couldn’t help but feel anxious. She knew her destination was a private villa.
It was famous for its eternal spring and interstellar pastoral style. Although Mǐ Qiū hadn’t been there, she had often seen its name in scenic area recommendations on her light-brain: Xīng Xī (Star Dawn).
Mǐ Qiū left the confinement tower and continued by car. Xīng Xī was more like a paradise.
The scenery was exceptionally beautiful; the most beautiful scenery in the galaxy was here. Mǐ Qiū knew about this place when she was on the island and had always yearned to visit. Just hearing the name Xīng Xī made her feel how wonderful it was!!
With the route planned by Fù Róngqīng, Mǐ Qiū arrived more smoothly.
The route Fù Róngqīng arranged was the shortest. The equivalent distance would have taken three days, but now she arrived at Xīng Xī in just a day and a half.
