After the Honest Man Picked Up a Dark, Obsessive Psycho chapter 103

Chapter 103: Happiness — “Then, little puppy, follow me.”

Jiang Yunian was “abducted” home by Jiang Yan and stayed there for several days straight. When he finally managed to return to the dormitory, his legs were still trembling, which made him even more determined to live on campus.

Seeing him return, Qian Cheng smiled ambiguously and mockingly: “You still know how to come back? I thought someone living in a big mansion would be unwilling to return.”

As he spoke, he pointed to the pile of things that he couldn’t fit on his own desk and had moved over to Jiang Yunian’s—it was all game consoles and merchandise.

Jiang Yunian’s brow furrowed slightly. This made him have to suspect whether Jiang Yan had secretly bribed Qian Cheng to find ways to leave him “not even enough room to stand” in dorm 707, so as to completely keep him “captured.”

However, Qian Cheng organized things quite tidily; it didn’t look like he truly intended to occupy his territory.

Xu Zhiyuan was truly and sincerely happy to see him, clamoring that he was finally back. Without him, the dorm had been much colder these past few days. He Qing was also always missing; during dorm inspections, it was as if only he and Qian Cheng lived there, and it was only by “glossing over” that he managed to hide it.

“But it’s a deal, okay?” He leaned in and joked: “Now that you have husbands, you can’t forget us, your dear roommates.”

He Qing, who was sitting quietly to the side, silently turned off his phone screen. He lifted his head and inserted a faint comment: “I came back twice this week.”

He glanced at Jiang Yunian. “More than you.”

Jiang Yunian, knowing he was in the wrong, rubbed his nose and didn’t dare to argue. He only gave a soft promise that he would return often in the future.

After chatting a bit more, Qian Cheng asked him mysteriously: “Hey, being serious, when do you and my cousin plan to have the wedding? When the time comes, your bro will give you a big red envelope.”

A wedding? Jiang Yunian was stunned for a moment. He truly hadn’t considered this question. Although he once had a vague longing for married life, two men having a wedding… it didn’t sound very realistic.

“Maybe we won’t have one.”

Qian Cheng’s eyes widened in surprise: “How could you not? At the company, I even heard my cousin telling someone to contact a wedding planning company. Is that for real?”

He truly didn’t know about this. Jiang Yan had never mentioned having a wedding to him. He had also always defaulted to thinking they didn’t need one. Furthermore, the heir of Qi Sheng marrying someone of the same sex would likely attract a lot of discussion. The group’s image would inevitably be affected. Grandfather Qi… likely wouldn’t want to make a big deal of it either?

Qian Cheng saw that his expression didn’t look faked. Realizing he might have let something slip, he quickly laughed it off, saying he must have heard wrong.

However, Jiang Yunian took this matter to heart. When he saw Jiang Yan the next day, he mentioned it as if casually. Jiang Yan was peeling an orange for him. Hearing the words, his movement paused slightly, but he immediately returned to normal. He didn’t hide it and admitted to it. He said Old Master Qi hadn’t disagreed; the wedding could be held at any time.

Seeing that Yunian didn’t speak, Jiang Yan paused. “Does Ge not want to?”

Jiang Yunian was silent for a while. In truth, it wasn’t a matter of wanting or not wanting, but if it was possible… then why not.

“Then let’s have it,” he said. But he added that it was better to keep it low-profile and not alert too many media outlets. Marriage was ultimately about two families—or rather, just the two of them. Simple was fine.

Jiang Yan held his hand. “Alright, I’ll arrange everything.”

And so, the days passed one by one—half campus life, half newlywed routine. That simple happiness, lost and then found again, was picked up piece by piece, filling every day with plain steadiness.

Without noticing, the weather gradually turned cool. This Friday, the professor of the only class had to take a temporary leave. Combined with the weekend, it made for a small three-day holiday. Jiang Yunian planned to go back to Nan Cheng to get some seasonal clothes.

It had indeed been a very long time since he had been back.

Jiang Yan had no objections and accompanied him.

In the familiar streets, Xiao Liu was playing in front of the tailor shop. He was rustling around with something, and his eyes lit up when he straightened his little body. He called out “Brother” in a milky voice and ran over on his short legs, wanting to hug Jiang Yunian’s leg.

As a result, before he could touch him, he was picked up by the back collar by a hand that reached in from the side and easily moved away.

Auntie Wang came out upon hearing the noise. Seeing Jiang Yan, who had been missing for so long, she was greatly startled. When the boy had the accident, the neighbors all thought he was gone. So young—she had lamented for a long time. She didn’t expect…

“Still alive…” Without paying attention, the thought in her heart slipped out.

Jiang Yan: “…”

Jiang Yunian: “Ah?”

Auntie Wang realized she had misspoke and quickly covered her mouth, smiling awkwardly: “It’s good to be alive, good to be alive! Oh my, you don’t know how worried your brother was when you had the accident.”

It was as if a floodgate had opened. She pulled Jiang Yan and talked about the days of his accident—how his brother was like he’d lost his soul, unable to eat or sleep, not even going to school, running to the riverside every day to find him… how his eyes had cried until they were as swollen as walnuts. It was heartbreaking to see…

Those simple words, linked into sentences, struck Jiang Yan’s heart with exceptional weight. It took a while before he snapped out of his daze and turned to look at the person beside him.

Jiang Yunian lowered his eyes uncomfortably, a hint of crimson quietly spreading over his earlobes as his fingers twisted the hem of his shirt.

Having not seen him for a long time, Auntie Wang chattered about a lot more. She squinted her eyes to look closely at Jiang Yan, murmuring: “This child… haven’t seen you in half a year, but why do you look a bit familiar… tsk, you look like a star on TV!”

Well, he was often on TV. He just took it as her praising him for being handsome.

After reminiscing for a while, the two prepared to go home. Just as they reached the entrance of the building, several half-grown teenagers suddenly rushed out of the alley ahead. They were wearing loose school uniforms and dragging slippers, with cigarettes in their mouths. Their idling, roguish appearance looked a bit familiar.

They were the same little hoodlums who often hung around this area.

They were still the same—not wearing their uniforms properly, making noise with their dragging slippers. One of them was even holding a slingshot, aimlessly shooting pebbles and boasting about his unreliable “great achievements.” However, when they looked over here, everything came to a screeching halt.

The faces of several of them showed expressions as if they’d seen a ghost—or rather, fear. Those who had been walking crookedly straightened their backs. They didn’t dare to make noise with their slippers anymore. The one with the slingshot quickly hid the weapon behind his back. With their heads bowed and looking straight ahead, they quickly slipped past the two, almost hugging the wall. As soon as they were past, they immediately started running as if a plague-god were chasing them.

Looking at their backs as they fled in embarrassment, Jiang Yunian suddenly remembered a year ago when Jiang Yan first came here. These few hoodlums had caused no end of trouble, calling him “Cripple” and “Idiot” and throwing stones at him. At the time, Jiang Yan had acted like he didn’t care at all.

But not long after that, those hoodlums had been mysteriously taught a lesson. Their pants had been stripped off and thrown into the lake, and they had to run back naked, becoming a laughingstock among the neighbors for a long time.

Only now, tasting the memory, did Jiang Yunian suddenly realize—where did this person “not care”? On the contrary, this guy held a grudge very well. His mind was narrow and petty like a little tyrant’s; that had never changed.

No wonder so many people were afraid of him.

Even himself—sometimes when he was stared at by Jiang Yan, he would unconsciously feel a bit of a tremor.

The corners of his lips curled up involuntarily, and he gave Jiang Yan a meaningful look.

Jiang Yan lifted a hand to his lips and gave a light cough, his gaze drifting to the other side as he pretended nothing had happened.

“Let’s go.”

Hand-in-hand, the two returned to the little nest they once lived in. Everything in the house remained exactly as it was, carrying the bits and pieces of the past, just like before. Like an ordinary couple, they started cleaning together, bit by bit giving this home a new atmosphere.

Jiang Yan was putting away clothes in the bedroom, opening a wardrobe that hadn’t been moved for a long time. In a hidden corner, that old dark-green shoebox was still quietly sitting there.

He looked back once. Jiang Yunian was standing in front of the photo frames of his parents, murmuring something with a faint smile on his face.

The hand reaching for the shoebox paused in mid-air for a moment and finally retracted. He closed the wardrobe door, locking those dusty pasts away together inside.

Then, he walked to his Ge’s side and solemnly said a few words to the “parents” in the photo with him.

That night, just like countless nights in the past, Jiang Yunian ate the food Jiang Yan made and sat on the small sofa watching TV for a while. After being fed a few sips of honey water, he was picked up horizontally and taken to his small single bed to make love.

Tonight, Jiang Yan was much more restrained than usual, stopping after only one round. After a busy day, he was worried about tiring his Ge.

And so, the two squeezed onto the not-so-wide single bed, leaning shoulder-to-shoulder against the headboard for a night talk. They chatted about trivial things, not feeling bored at all.

Without realizing it, they talked about the future.

Jiang Yunian used to think very simply: find a suitable job after graduation. If he met a suitable girl, they’d date, naturally get married, form a family, and have children—a family of three or four, plain and steady—he thought that would be very happy.

Looking at it now… plans truly couldn’t keep up with changes. Besides the gender of his other half, and the children—it seemed about the same?

His eyes lit up slightly, with a bit of a dream: “Perhaps if I have extra energy in the future, I can raise a dog?”

Then it would count as a family of three.

Jiang Yan’s brow furrowed upon hearing this, and he opposed it without a second thought: “No pets.”

He didn’t want any “family of three,” and even more, he didn’t want his Ge’s attention divided by a dog. He himself didn’t have enough of it; any other cats or dogs shouldn’t even think about it!

Jiang Yunian tugged at his sleeve, trying to negotiate: “I’m talking about the future… we can talk about it later. Puppies are so cute.”

He held up a fair index finger and waved it in front of Jiang Yan’s eyes, looking expectant: “Just one, okay?”

Jiang Yan grabbed that restless finger, brought it to his mouth, and gave it a bite that was neither too heavy nor too light. His gaze was deep, but his tone was a bit overbearing: “I am a dog. Raise me.”

Jiang Yunian was amused by his childish action and burst into laughter. That tiny bit of regret in his heart vanished. He reached out and rubbed Jiang Yan’s hair, which felt excellent to the touch.

“Alright, then little puppy, follow me.”

“Woof~”
