After the Honest Man Picked Up a Dark, Obsessive Psycho chapter 63

Chapter 63: Grievance — Didn’t You Say You Loved Me? Don’t Leave Me Behind

The lingering intimacy of living as if drunk or dreaming seemed to have no end; he thought he would never wake up again.

However, in the following two days, Jiang Yan became unusually busy. He had many things to do every day and couldn’t squeeze out much time to accompany him. Often, they would meet hurriedly during the day, and he wouldn’t come back until very, very late. Without his comfort, Jiang Yunian’s emotions became increasingly unstable. He often stared sluggishly out the window, sometimes suddenly hugged his knees and cried bitterly, and frequently had nightmares at night. When waking from the dreams, he found no one beside him and couldn’t emerge from the fear for a long time. More often, when he woke up, the person was already gone, or he wouldn’t see a shadow of him all day. Busy to the point of ignoring his mood swings, his occasional dissatisfaction was treated as resistance against intimacy, followed by being pressed onto the bed and forced to be “good.”

This repeated loss and unease made Jiang Yunian mentally trance-like, full of grievances wanting to question Jiang Yan why he didn’t come to see him. He hugged the pillow, thinking sadly that Jiang Yan kept saying he loved him, but actually didn’t care that much, otherwise how could he bear to leave him here alone for so long…

Another late night. Jiang Yan pushed open the bedroom door carrying exhaustion. It was pitch black inside; he should be asleep. Walking to the bed, he felt nothing. Lifting the quilt, there was no one inside at all.

Jiang Yan’s heart sank abruptly; vigilance instantly replaced fatigue. He immediately pressed the switch, but the light didn’t turn on.

“Come out,” Jiang Yan panicked rarely. “If you don’t come out, once I catch you, Ge don’t think about sleeping tonight!”

However, the room was silent and secluded; not even the sound of wind could be heard. Jiang Yan couldn’t help but get anxious. He searched in the dark—on the bed, under the bed, corners of the closet, kitchen, bathroom. He didn’t let go of a single corner, yet still nothing.

Unable to find him no matter how he looked, irritability dyed his brow. Walking out of the bathroom, his gaze inadvertently fell on that huge floor-to-ceiling window. A terrible thought flashed past, and his back instantly broke out in cold sweat.

His steps walking over became unsteady. Only when he found the person under the heavy curtains did his suspended heart land.

Jiang Yan looked at his Ge barefoot, hugging a pillow tightly in his arms, curled into a ball in the dark corner. His heart felt like it had been slammed by something. He actually didn’t know an adult male could shrink so small—a tiny ball he could encircle with one arm.

Ge…”

His low, husky voice revealed a trace of indistinct trembling.

Jiang Yan’s brow was knitted. The heart-pounding fear from just now hadn’t subsided. The anger surging from the lingering fear made him almost want to grab this tiny ball and teach him a harsh lesson, letting him know the consequences of running around and scaring people. But when he saw that face clearly by the faint moonlight, that anger dissipated instantly.

His Ge seemed to have lost a lot of weight; his shoulders were so thin the bones could be felt. Those eyes that were always clean were covered with a layer of fog at this moment, lacking the innocence of the past. Looking closely, the thin and weak body frame was shrinking faintly; unknown if it was due to cold or other reasons, it made one unable to bear blaming him.

Jiang Yan sighed, squatted down, and touched his face. “How old are you, still playing hide-and-seek?”

“…”

He touched those bare feet again. They were icy cold. Unknown how long he had been squatting here or how he endured it. The brows that had just relaxed knitted again.

“Get up.”

The tone this time was no longer gentle, revealing a bit of displeasure. As if only now sensing his existence, the person on the floor lifted his small face, sluggish eyes slowly focusing on him. After seeing clearly it was Jiang Yan, his eye rims turned red instantly, and he pounced on him with a thick crying tone.

“Where did you go…”

Slender white wrists waved, hitting him randomly. Jiang Yan paused, reached out to grab them but missed. The soft force found gaps—chest, shoulders, chin, even his face got hit. Like a kitten scratching an itch, scratching away all his anger. He couldn’t even bear to interrupt the bit of childishness his Ge rarely displayed, only able to indulge helplessly.

Only when those paws were tired of patting and switched to clinging to his neck, half his body lying limply in his arms, did Jiang Yan understand why his Ge was so abnormal.

“Power outage… so dark…” Jiang Yunian hiccuped. In the darkness, Jiang Yan couldn’t see his tears, only distinguishing the grievance. “No one was here…”

Jiang Yan reacted belatedly. The strong wind today damaged the nearby power facilities.

So it was because of this.

He hugged the person and coaxed him with a few sentences, telling him the power would come back tomorrow and to go back to bed first. Jiang Yunian wouldn’t cooperate, nor would he let him carry him, holding onto him tightly on his own, afraid the person would disappear if he moved. Making a fuss until now, fatigue appeared on Jiang Yan’s face. Darkness blurred the vision; neither noticed the other’s strangeness. He rubbed the center of his brows. “Be obedient, get up first.”

“…”

Jiang Yan’s patience ran out. He darkened his face and said, “If you don’t listen, I’ll throw you here.”

This sentence instantly poked Jiang Yunian’s tense nerves. He tightened his arms even more forcefully, taking his words for real, thinking he was really going to be abandoned. He pursed his mouth in grievance, shaking his head continuously. “No… don’t want to be here…”

The threat worked. The person in his arms indeed stopped struggling, letting him support his hips and legs to pick him up. Jiang Yan put him on the bed, using his palms to warm those feet frozen stiff. Only when he felt they warmed up a bit did he tuck the person completely into the quilt. He went back to pick up the pillow dropped on the floor and found it was the one he slept on. There was a patch of dried mark on it, unknown if it was tears or saliva. He was very tired tonight and had no mind to dwell on these trifles. He placed the pillow well and took a bathrobe, planning to take a shower.

Unexpectedly, as soon as he left the bed, Jiang Yunian thought he was leaving. He scrambled up and grabbed the hem of his clothes. Jiang Yan patted his hand saying he was going to shower. He refused to let go, clutching even tighter. With no choice, he had to take off his clothes and get directly into bed to accompany him.

But not long after closing his eyes, the person in his arms caused a commotion again. The thin and weak body twisted restlessly, rubbing against him, almost rubbing out a fire. He was tired enough from handling matters today and thought his Ge was also tired for several nights, so he didn’t plan to do anything else. Jiang Yan restrainedly pressed down that restless hand. “Don’t fuss, you can’t take it.”

However, he underestimated his Ge’s endurance and overestimated his own willpower. At this moment, his Ge was harder to pin down than a pig at New Year’s, thoroughly snapping his last thread of reason. Jiang Yan couldn’t bear it anymore. He turned over and pressed down, deciding to properly “teach” his Ge a lesson for his restlessness tonight.

Just like this, after a round of entanglement, both were sweating from exhaustion. Jiang Yan still pressed on him, a bit reluctant to pull out. He lowered his head to kiss the sweaty forehead and laughed low. “So clingy tonight?”

Jiang Yunian half-closed his eyes, his eyelashes trembling rapidly. He didn’t speak. Relying on instinct, he hugged him tighter, as if only a seamless closeness could obtain a little sense of security.

“Sleep.” Jiang Yan kissed him again, closing his eyes with post-coital laziness and the day’s fatigue.

2:30 AM.

Jiang Yan was suddenly awakened by the vibration of the phone on the bedside table. Seeing it was Zhou Shu, he pressed his brow and answered, his tone unkind. “You better actually have something.”

Zhou Shu on the other end was unusually serious, completely lacking his usual flamboyance. “Your grandfather… Elder Qi is hospitalized.”

In the thick night, Jiang Yan’s brows furrowed sharply, then returned to normal immediately. “What’s strange about that.”

“This time it seems real. heard the situation isn’t good. After he met with Qi Liangji, he just…”

Jiang Yan hung up the phone coldly, put it on the bedside table, hugged the person beside him, and continued to sleep.

In the latter half of the night, Jiang Yunian started having nightmares again. He slept extremely unsteadily, eyeballs rolling ceaselessly under his eyelids. Subconsciously reaching out to fumble around for comfort, he touched only an empty pillow and cold sheets. Immediately after, an extremely light sound of a door closing amplified his senses. He woke with a start. The side of the bed was largely empty. Looking toward the door, he only managed to catch the last sliver of dim light as the door gap closed. The world fell into dead silence again. As if having lost his soul, Jiang Yunian hugged the pillow retaining Jiang Yan’s scent and stumbled out of bed.

“Don’t go… Ah Yan…”

“Ah…”

As soon as his front foot touched the ground, his back foot went soft and he fell directly. His naked body pressed against the icy floor, freezing him into shivers. He couldn’t care about that much. Propping his hands to get up, he found a piercing pain coming from his ankle—it was sprained. The pain forced out physiological tears. “It hurts…”

The moment the tears slid down, fear and pain intertwined; his whole person felt terrible. Hugging the pillow, enduring the severe pain in his ankle, he crawled toward the door with difficulty using his elbows and knees, whimpering in his mouth, teeth chattering.

He slapped the cold door, calling Jiang Yan’s name over and over, begging him not to go. But that door, cold as if isolating him from the world, gave no response from beginning to end.

Unknown how long he slapped, how long he cried; tears seemed to flow endlessly. His whole person was wrapped in darkness, only able to hug that pillow stained with Jiang Yan’s scent, shrinking by the door and weeping silently. But despite this, it was useless. He was still terrified, missed him terribly.

Where did you go…

Didn’t you say you loved me? Where are you…

I’m so scared… don’t leave me alone…

Until his throat was cried hoarse, unable to make a sound, thoroughly frozen into unconsciousness, choking with sobs as he collapsed on the ground, truly abandoned by the world.

Just like this, Jiang Yunian curled up on the floor for the whole night, until the sky revealed faint light, and he was woken up by the cold in a daze.

Jiang Yunian’s head was terribly heavy, consciousness very weak. In a trance, he seemed to hear a burst of urgent knocking, mixed with several human voices. Thinking it was Jiang Yan, he tried weakly to prop himself up, but only slumped to the ground in vain, not even having the strength to move a finger. Relying on the last shred of clarity, he tried hard to open his eyes wide to see the people outside clearly.

Until it was opened from the outside, and a figure backlit by light rushed in.

Seeing the person on the ground, naked and fainted. In that moment, the heart was fiercely wrenched. He rushed over almost immediately to pick the person up. Who expected, just as his hand touched, he was ruthlessly pushed away by the person behind him.

He Qing panted heavily. Seeing this scene, he covered his mouth in shock. Jiang Yunian was stark naked, his body covered in overlapping new and old marks, spreading from neck and shoulders to back and waist and legs. He was still hugging a half-dry pillow tightly in his arms, shrunk into a tiny ball. Unknown what kind of torture he had experienced before.

He reached out a trembling hand to touch him, startled by that scorching temperature. “He has a high fever, call the doctor quickly!”

While shouting, he quickly picked the person up, put him back on the bed, and wrapped him tightly in the quilt. Zhou Shu, following closely behind, was equally dumbfounded by the scene before him. He immediately took out his phone to contact the private doctor. Hanging up the phone, he looked at the person standing not far from the bed, pointing at him. It took half a day to squeeze out a sentence: “You kid play this hard?!”

Jiang Yan didn’t answer. He stood stiffly in place, his gaze locked deathly on that fragile figure on the bed. A crack appeared on his always composed face. The footsteps wanting to approach paused abruptly.

After He Qing tucked the person in, he wanted to find some clothes to put on him. Just as he turned, his wrist was grabbed by a scorching hand. Jiang Yunian’s eyes were closed tight, brows furrowed in pain, lips moving, emitting weak sleep-talk: “You… finally came…”

“I feel so bad…

“Am I… going to die…”

Jiang Yan, standing by the bed, felt struck by lightning. The blood drained from his face instantly. A dull pain came from his heart, followed by an unprecedented regret surging up.

He Qing couldn’t hold back turning around, raising his hand to give him a crisp slap on the face.

“Lunatic.”
