Chapter 2: Forced to Stay the Night
It was already quite late when they finally finished answering all the questions. Just as they were about to leave, they were forcefully asked to stay the night.
If they stayed, the two of them would have to share a room, which was a significant challenge for Shen Zhouyue.
“I’ll figure something out,” Yu Tingzhou said.
As they were talking, Fang Hanyun came in, carrying a plate of fruit.
Shen Zhouyue sat on the edge of the bed, while Yu Tingzhou stood closer to the door.
The distance between them made their relationship seem distant, which only deepened Fang Hanyun’s suspicions.
She frowned as she placed the fruit plate down. “You didn’t just find someone to fool me, did you?”
Yu Tingzhou, who had been about to speak, swallowed his words immediately.
He rubbed the tip of his nose. “Of course not. Why would I lie to you about something as important as marriage?”
Fang Hanyun wasn’t convinced by Yu Tingzhou’s words. She stared meaningfully at both Shen Zhouyue and Yu Tingzhou. “If I find out you’re deceiving me, get ready to go on at least three blind dates a day!”
After throwing out this threat, Fang Hanyun turned and left the room.
Yu Tingzhou felt a cold sweat trickle down his back.
Only after Fang Hanyun’s figure completely disappeared did he sit down on the sofa with a helpless expression.
“Sorry, looks like we won’t be able to leave tonight.”
Shen Zhouyue pursed his lips and sneaked a glance at Yu Tingzhou. When Yu Tingzhou looked back at him, he quickly lowered his head.
In a small voice, he asked, “So… does that mean we’ll have to sleep together…”
His voice was so soft that if the room hadn’t been quiet, Yu Tingzhou might have missed it.
Yu Tingzhou choked on his own saliva and started coughing. “Cough… No, no, I’ll sleep on the sofa.”
Shen Zhouyue’s eyes fell on the nearby sofa.
It was a single-seater, and even someone of his size would find it cramped to sleep on. Yu Tingzhou was at least half a head taller than him. If he slept on that sofa, he’d surely wake up with aches all over.
Shen Zhouyue glanced at the bed, then at the sofa, and softly said, “The bed… the bed is pretty big. We could sleep together…”
“We’re already married, after all.”
It took a lot of courage for Shen Zhouyue to say this.
Yu Tingzhou looked at him in surprise, and after a moment of thought, he nodded in agreement.
With the sleeping arrangement settled, Shen Zhouyue got ready to take a shower. But when he tried turning the doorknob, he found that it wouldn’t open.
“Uh… The door seems to be locked from the outside.”
The only person in the house who would do something like this was Fang Hanyun.
Yu Tingzhou couldn’t help but laugh in disbelief at his mother’s actions.
He immediately called Fang Hanyun. “Mom, why did you lock my room door?”
On the other end, Fang Hanyun let out a cold laugh. “I’m being cautious. You’ve rented a fake partner before, so to prevent you from sneaking out or taking Zhouyue with you, I locked the door. No one will unlock it until dawn.”
After dropping this bombshell, Fang Hanyun hung up the phone.
Yu Tingzhou stared at his phone, feeling helpless.
He tried calling her again, but this time Fang Hanyun didn’t pick up. She even turned off her phone.
With a headache, Yu Tingzhou rubbed his forehead. “My mom locked the door. We’re stuck for now. I’ll find a clean shirt for you to wear.”
Shen Zhouyue wasn’t picky. He took the shirt from Yu Tingzhou and headed toward the bathroom.
“Do you need underwear? I think I have some new ones. I’ll look for them,” Yu Tingzhou offered, crouching down to search.
Shen Zhouyue’s eyes momentarily glanced toward a certain area on Yu Tingzhou’s body. “No… no need, it wouldn’t fit…”
After blurting this out, Shen Zhouyue darted into the bathroom like a rabbit being chased by a predator.
Yu Tingzhou hadn’t fully processed what Shen Zhouyue meant at first. When the realization hit, his ears flushed red.
How would he know if it didn’t fit?
Shen Zhouyue quickly showered and put on the shirt that Yu Tingzhou had given him.
The shirt was too big for him. He had to roll up the sleeves to expose his wrists, and the hem barely covered his hips.
Feeling a bit self-conscious about his bare legs, Shen Zhouyue tugged the shirt down. But when the hem covered his thighs, the collar started to slip off his shoulders, exposing his collarbone and part of his shoulder.
With his ears turning red, Shen Zhouyue awkwardly looked at himself in the mirror. His cheeks were slightly flushed, and his chest was damp, making the fabric cling to his skin in a way that looked a bit too suggestive.
He buttoned the shirt all the way up to the top and tried wiping away the damp spots with his hands, but the effort was futile.
From outside, Yu Tingzhou’s voice called out, “Are you done yet?”
Flustered, Shen Zhouyue quickly gathered his clothes, including the small undergarments hidden among them, and rushed to the door. He opened it, letting the steamy air from the shower escape as he stepped out.
“I… I’m done…”
He was still wearing Yu Tingzhou’s oversized shirt, his slender legs exposed to the cool air. The sudden change in temperature made him shiver.
Noticing this, Yu Tingzhou draped a blanket over him before heading into the bathroom.
The soft blanket wrapped around him brought a sense of warmth, and Shen Zhouyue’s heart pounded uncontrollably.
“It’s all fake. Why are you so excited?”
“Don’t forget, you’re doing this for An’an!”
Thinking of An’an, Shen Zhouyue quickly calmed down.
He hung the rest of his clothes on an unused hanger in the closet, then tiptoed over to the small balcony to dry them.
Focused on his task, Shen Zhouyue didn’t notice when the bathroom door opened.
Yu Tingzhou walked out just in time to see Shen Zhouyue stretching to hang the clothes. The movement caused his shirt to ride up, exposing a round, pale part of his body.
He’s so skinny, but surprisingly well-rounded there, Yu Tingzhou thought absentmindedly.
“Ugh…”
Shen Zhouyue, who had forgotten about his sprained ankle, felt a sharp pain shoot through it as he remained in the same position for too long. He lost his balance and fell to the ground.
Luckily, the floor was carpeted, so aside from the pain in his ankle, he didn’t feel much else.
Yu Tingzhou rushed over and scooped him up, placing him on the nearby sofa.
As Shen Zhouyue stared at him in surprise, Yu Tingzhou knelt beside him and gently took hold of his ankle.
The swelling that had gone down earlier was now returning.
Frowning, Yu Tingzhou said in a displeased tone, “Why didn’t you ask me for help?”
Shen Zhouyue hadn’t recovered from the shock.
One of his hands gripped the hem of his shirt tightly, trying to avoid revealing anything inappropriate, while he could distinctly feel the warmth from Yu Tingzhou’s hand on his ankle.
He wiggled his foot awkwardly and muttered, “I’m fine… Don’t worry.”
In his other hand, Shen Zhouyue still clutched his undergarment from earlier – a small piece of cloth now wrinkled from his nervous grip.
Yu Tingzhou’s gaze unintentionally fell on the little fabric.
So small!
“I’m not sure if we have any medicine for sprains at home. I’ll ask my dad to unlock the door,” Yu Tingzhou said, standing up.
Shen Zhouyue quickly grabbed his arm. “There’s no need to go through all that trouble.”
“It’s so late. Uncle might already be asleep. There’s no need to disturb him over something so small.”
As he spoke, Shen Zhouyue tried hopping over to the window to hang the rest of his clothes.
Yu Tingzhou’s expression turned cold as he watched him struggle.
Without saying a word, he snatched the small piece of clothing from Shen Zhouyue’s hand and walked over to the balcony to hang it himself.
Shen Zhouyue hadn’t even processed what had just happened. He could only watch in horror as his intimate clothing swayed in the breeze on the drying rack.
His face turned beet red, and he started hopping back toward the bed on one foot.
The oversized shirt bounced up and down with his movements.
Yu Tingzhou swiftly walked over, scooped him up, and tossed him onto the bed with a bit of force.
Before Shen Zhouyue could say anything, he grabbed the blanket and pulled it over himself, pretending to fall asleep instantly.
Yu Tingzhou couldn’t help but laugh at Shen Zhouyue’s terrible acting, mentally noting this for later, when they could settle the score.
