Chapter 8: Coagulation Dysfunction
Shen Zhouyue didn’t snap out of it until he heard someone calling him.
During that time spent spacing out, he had tried to understand Yu Tingzhou’s behavior but found he had no clue where to start.
After the meal, Shen Zhouyue originally wanted to find an excuse to leave, but Yu Tingzhou said, “Since we’ve run into each other, let’s go together.”
“It just so happens Mike owns a large shopping mall. After we finish discussing business, let’s go for a stroll. We can pick up some souvenirs for Mom and Dad.”
After saying this, he didn’t give Shen Zhouyue a chance to refuse and directly grabbed his wrist.
Shen Zhouyue didn’t want to make too much of a scene in front of outsiders, and mindful of his goal in staying by Yu Tingzhou’s side, he acted very docile and didn’t resist.
Finally, when Yu Tingzhou and Mike finished their discussion and sent the others off, Shen Zhouyue let out a sigh of relief.
He had no interest in business matters and couldn’t understand what they were saying.
If Yu Tingzhou hadn’t stopped him from leaving, he wouldn’t have stayed a minute longer.
“Let’s go pick out souvenirs.”
“If you see something you like, you can take it too.”
Yu Tingzhou took the lead toward the mall. Shen Zhouyue wasn’t very familiar with the area and, worried about getting lost, quickly followed.
Before long, they arrived at the mall.
The mall was massive, with a huge variety of items.
Shen Zhouyue was initially lacking in interest, but as he looked around, his gaze suddenly locked onto a counter selling Rubik’s Cubes.
The exact model he hadn’t been able to buy earlier was right here!
Realizing this, Shen Zhouyue looked a bit excited.
He forgot about Yu Tingzhou beside him and walked quickly toward the counter. “Can you let me see that Rubik’s Cube?”
The sales clerk followed Shen Zhouyue’s gaze and said with an apologetic expression, “Sorry, that is not for sale.”
Shen Zhouyue immediately looked disappointed.
Yu Tingzhou walked over at this moment.
He briefly assessed the situation and contacted Mike directly.
Whatever he said to Mike worked; the sales clerk received a phone call, immediately took the Rubik’s Cube off the counter, wrapped it up, and handed it to Shen Zhouyue.
Shen Zhouyue hadn’t quite reacted yet and mechanically accepted the shopping bag the clerk handed him.
“What, you got what you wanted and you’re still not happy?”
Yu Tingzhou’s tone was very flat, as if this matter was nothing to him.
But Shen Zhouyue’s mood was somewhat complicated.
He looked up at Yu Tingzhou. “Why… why did you help me…”
“Just consider it a wedding gift!”
Wedding gift?
But aren’t we fake?
Before Shen Zhouyue could process this, Yu Tingzhou had already started browsing other counters for souvenirs.
Shen Zhouyue hurried to catch up but was suddenly knocked to the ground by a child who popped out from the side.
The child also fell to the floor.
Whether from shock or the fall, the child immediately started crying.
The gift bag Shen Zhouyue was holding flew out with the momentum, and the sharp packaging of the Rubik’s Cube grazed Shen Zhouyue’s arm, leaving a cut.
Before he could check his own wound, he saw the child crying pitifully.
Thinking that An’an was about the same age as this child, Shen Zhouyue ignored his injury, squatted down in front of the child, and coaxed him gently.
Under Shen Zhouyue’s comfort, the child slowly stopped sobbing and whispered an apology, looking very well-behaved.
At this moment, the child’s parent arrived.
Seeing the child’s red eyes and Shen Zhouyue squatting in front of him, she assumed her child was being bullied and immediately questioned with dissatisfaction, “What did you do to my child!”
Hearing this person’s interrogation, Yu Tingzhou immediately shielded Shen Zhouyue behind him.
“Madam, it was your child who crashed into my partner. Seeing your child crying, my partner comforted him immediately.”
“You didn’t watch your own child properly, yet you question others indiscriminately. That’s not very appropriate, is it?”
Yu Tingzhou’s face was cold. His words were polite, but his tone carried a hint of anger.
This was the first time Shen Zhouyue had been defended like this.
He was stunned for a moment. His heart felt itchy, like a seed breaking through the soil and sprouting a tender shoot.
“Who knows if your partner made my child cry and then put on an act because he was afraid we’d cause him trouble?”
“I’m telling you, if there’s anything wrong with my child, I won’t let him off.”
Before Yu Tingzhou could speak, the child tugged at the adult and whispered, “It wasn’t this big brother who made me cry.”
“I didn’t see the big brother and ran out suddenly. I almost hurt him. I was scared Mom would scold me, so I cried.”
The child’s voice still had a lingering milky quality, and his enunciation wasn’t very clear, but he tried very hard to explain what had just happened.
The woman felt a bit embarrassed. She huffed, said nothing, and left directly with the child.
Shen Zhouyue’s ears were tinged pink. He looked down at his feet and asked in a small voice, “Why… why did you help me?”
Just as Yu Tingzhou turned around, he noticed the cut on Shen Zhouyue’s arm. It wasn’t large, but it was bleeding continuously.
He instantly lost the desire to buy souvenirs.
“You’re injured, why didn’t you say anything?”
Without waiting for Shen Zhouyue to speak, Yu Tingzhou directly grabbed his uninjured hand and walked out.
There was a pharmacy not far from the mall.
The shop wasn’t big, but it had the basic medicine for treating external injuries.
Yu Tingzhou asked the pharmacist and bought the appropriate supplies, only to find that the blood at the site of Shen Zhouyue’s wound wasn’t clotting.
He frowned and asked, “Did this cut hit a blood vessel?”
Shen Zhouyue smiled and gave a perfunctory answer.
The pharmacist on the side couldn’t help but speak up, “I advise you to take your partner to the hospital for a checkup. He might have a coagulation dysfunction.”
“For a small wound like this, logically speaking, the blood should have clotted long ago.”
Hearing the pharmacist’s words, Yu Tingzhou looked at Shen Zhouyue and noticed his head was lowered, his fingers constantly kneading the corner of his clothes—a look of guilt.
Seeing him like this, what could Yu Tingzhou not understand?
He laughed out of extreme anger. “You know your body’s condition, yet you left this wound unattended?”
Shen Zhouyue took a few steps back under Yu Tingzhou’s angry gaze.
He picked up a piece of clean gauze from the side and pressed it over his wound.
As pressure was applied to the bleeding point, the blood soon stopped flowing.
Shen Zhouyue looked at Yu Tingzhou with a hint of an ingratiating smile, showing him the wound that had stopped bleeding, and whispered, “It’s not bleeding anymore.”
Yu Tingzhou had nowhere to vent his anger, so he could only sullenly continue treating Shen Zhouyue’s wound.
