Chapter 19: Casing the Joint part 1
Little D: [Iâve booked you for self-defense classes (basic combat techniques), a basic survival skills course (how to infiltrate, tail targets, disguise yourself as different professions, hide when being counter-surveilled, and develop counter-reconnaissance abilities), and weapons training (youâll get a general overview of commonly used handgun models, as well as daggers, kitchen knives, and the like).]
Little D: [Aside from these, which youâd best master proficiently, I will assist you with everything else.]
Little D: [Donât feel pressured. A handler exists to clean up after the hitman and clear the path. We work from the inside and outside, one in the light and one in the dark; thatâs the only way to guarantee mission success.]
Little D: [I have the best hacking skills in the organization. I can hack into the cityâs traffic systems. It would be best if you knew how to driveâI could ensure no one catches you by giving you green lights all the way.]
enn: [But I donât know how.]
Little D: [Alright. Driving actually makes it easier to be tailed. Itâs better to take public transport with lots of people.]
Upon returning home, Qi En began studying the schedule Little D had given him.
He used his phone to search for the addresses, checking the distance from his home and how long it would take to get there, then bookmarked the locations.
After packing the things he would need for tomorrow, he went to bed early.
For three consecutive days, he attended the classes arranged by Little D. There were online theory lessons and offline practical sessions.
Although it was exhausting, it was also exhilarating.
Qi En had a combat instructor with a standard muscle-man physique. Standing next to him, Qi En was instantly reduced to dust by comparison.
He kind of wanted to train until he looked like that too; it looked like he could beat Cheng Xun into the ground with one punch.
He even asked the coach how to train to achieve that physique.
However, the coach didnât seem very willing to tell Qi En.
Although Qi En wasnât very happy about it, he understood.
It must be some exclusive secret technique; how could they just pass it on casually?
So, Qi En decided to search online.
But the internet provided a wide variety of answers, and he couldn’t tell which method was the right one.
The details were overwhelming, down to what to eat for every meal and how much water to drink daily.
He was looking at this during his break when the coach, who had refused him earlier, walked over and tried to fish for information from Qi En.
He even stole glances at Qi En’s phone, thinking Qi En didnât notice.
Qi En quickly stood up from the ground, clutched his phone, and walked away briskly.
Leaving the coach standing there in the wind, confused.
Qi En remembered that Little D had told him to report everything, so he told Little D about his desire to work out as well.
Little D replied very quickly:
Little D: [Did someone say something to you?]
enn: [Not really. I just saw that my coach has a great body. During combat sparring, I can never beat him.]
Little D: [I see.]
Qi En was a bit confused.
You see what?
Not long after, he heard the coachâs phone ring. The coach went out to answer it and never came back.
Qi En no longer had a fitness coach.
During this time, Qi En wasnât idle at the private training ground. He took out the notebook and pencil case he carried with him and started writing things down, copying from his phone.
After he finished, he took a photo of the two pages in his notebook and sent it to Dai Mu.
enn: [Little D, look. This is the training plan I made for myself.]
Thinking Little D wouldn’t reply so quickly, he decided to try exercising a bit first.
But Little D replied immediately.
Little D: [Image]
Dai Mu had circled several spots on Qi Enâs training plan in red.
Little D: [One hundred push-ups a day, five sets, resting five minutes after each set?]
Little D: [One hundred pull-ups, two hundred sit-ups, a five-kilometer jog?]
enn: [Itâs pretty good. I chose exercises that donât require gym equipment. People online call it “painless fitness.”]
Little D: [Where is the painless part? Is it your wallet thatâs painless?]
Little D: [I modified it for you. Train according to this.]
Qi En was a little excited. Little D was too good to him.
But when he clicked open the image, the smile on his face froze.
enn: [Little D, did you send the wrong one?]
Little D: [No mistake.]
“Five push-ups a day, ten sit-ups, a three-hundred-meter jog, one pull-up…?”
The kitten came over and lay on Qi En’s lap.
[Thatâs right. If you want to train, start with this first.]
“Are you underestimating me too?”
[Yes.]
In the end, Qi En tried it… and felt that both Dai Mu and the cat made a lot of sense.
However, he did have one merit: his stamina was quite good.
After all, he often practiced hand gesture dances, so his upper limb endurance wasn’t bad.
A day later, Dai Mu brought news.
Dai Mu was going to start working out too.
When Qi En found out, he turned pale with fright and hurriedly typed to dissuade him.
enn: [Is that picture you sent me earlier what you want to look like?]
Little D: [Yes, I like that kind of physique.]
enn: [The coach you replaced for me last time had that kind of body too.]
Little D: [Do you think it looks good? If I train to look like that, what would you think?]
After these few days of micro-exercise, Qi Enâs views on body types had shifted slightly.
There was no good or bad physique; the best one was the one that suited you.
enn: [Donât do it, Little D. Donât become like that. Although your proportions are good, youâre short. What if you train and end up looking like a bullfrog?]
Little D: […]
Little D: [Thanks for the advice. I got it.]
Little D: [By the way, have you stopped streaming? Did you forget to ask for leave?]
Reminded by him, Qi En finally remembered what he had been neglecting for the past few days.
He went to the “livestream room” partitioned off in his bedroom and fiddled with the equipment.
Fortunately, with the cat’s assistance, he successfully started the stream.
He wasn’t ready with how to start; he had only written a script for asking for a leave of absence.
Thinking that people wouldn’t join so quickly, he planned to go offline and come back in a bit.
At that moment, the number in the top right corner started jumping crazily from zero.
Every time it refreshed, the viewer count surged.
From 58 to 270, to 544, then to 1380. The numbers slowed down after passing five thousand, but they were still rising incessantly.
He hadn’t streamed for several days, yet so many people came all at once.
And this wasn’t even his usual streaming time.
Qi En froze for a moment, hesitating whether to end the stream.
“Am I this popular…?”
The cat jumped onto the table, lay down out of the camera’s view, and looped a line of text in its eyes until Qi En saw it:
[Keep streaming.]
Qi En muttered, “Keep going…?”
He maneuvered the mouse pointer away from the ‘End Stream’ button.
His cheat sheet was still on the desk. He adjusted the position of his laptop, moving the corner that was slightly visible out of the frame.
What should I do now? Read the bullet screen?
Just then, a comment flew by: [En-En finally started streaming.]
“Mn, I’ve started streaming.”
On the big screen, Qi En was wearing normal loungewear. The white short-sleeved shirt made him look well-behaved, adding a scholarly air.
Many new viewers entering the stream asked:
[Are you still in school?]
[How old is the streamer?]
[High school student or college student?]
Qi En had to say, “No, I’m not in school anymore.”
Speaking of this, he pursed his lips in embarrassment.
Would people think he was uneducated?
Forget it, better not to answer these kinds of questions.
[Why is En-En streaming at this hour? Looks like you have something to say.]
Finally, someone asked the right question.
“Yes, I’ll start talking once everyone is here.”
But how could everyone in his chat room ever be fully present?
Qi En hadn’t yet realized how big of a streamer he was; he thought he was only popular within his small circle.
Quietly, a new hashtag climbed up the hot search list on Miro.
It gradually became number one.
The speed at which people entered the stream increased again. The viewers might not feel how fast people were coming in, but on Qi En’s end, the viewer count kept jumping.
