Chapter 20: Sleep with Me Tonight
“Don’t worry about that. Anyway, I didn’t rob a bank.”
In reality, he had used Chi Yuheng’s money to play the benefactor.
In the original plot, as a villain with a low IQ, Ye Ran focused all his mind on causing trouble and framing Qiao Yubai, not caring much about other people and things.
The book didn’t describe Chi Youchu much, and there wasn’t even a good or bad ending for him.
Even though Chi Youchu always bickered with him and tattled, he grew up with him after all; he was his family.
Stubborn as he was, Chi Youchu would still custom-order cakes for him and buy an extra portion of things for him. In various small details, he was far better than those nominal “family members” of his.
Since they were family, he should treat him better.
He decided he wanted to be… brothers with Chi Youchu.
“I declare, I won’t be your enemy anymore. I want to be your brother.” Chi Youchu touched the steering wheel and said to Ye Ran outside the car.
The gift was delivered. Ye Ran walked into the house. “Haven’t we always been?”
…
Before dinner, Ye Ran received a video call invitation from Old Master Chi. As he got older, the Old Master’s favorite thing was traveling the world.
Even though the Old Master was having fun, he hadn’t forgotten his birthday.
Calculating the time difference, it should be just after the Old Master woke up.
Ye Ran clicked to answer. Seeing the sun just rising behind the Old Master, Ye Ran smiled and said, “Grandpa, good morning.”
The Old Master laughed and replied, “Good evening, my good grandson.”
Chi Youchu was right there. Hearing the Old Master’s voice, he poked his head in front of Ye Ran’s phone, wanting to show his face to his grandpa. As a result, his tongue slipped and he blurted out, “Old Grandpa, I’m here too.”
The Old Master saw him.
The Old Master chose to ignore him.
The biological grandson had become a fake grandson.
He didn’t call him “Grandpa” but “Old Grandpa.”
Just how old was he?
“Xiao Ran, why is there a mosquito next to you?”
Based on the rapport with the Old Master, Ye Ran immediately understood the meaning. He raised his hand and dragged Chi Youchu out of the frame.
The Old Master smiled again. “Much quieter now.”
The mosquito, Chi Youchu: “…”
“Xiao Ran, Happy Birthday.”
“Thank you, Grandpa.”
“Grandpa will be back in a few days. I’ll give you a surprise then.”
What surprise could the Old Master give him?
Ye Ran was very curious. When he asked further, the Old Master said it wouldn’t be a surprise if he said it early; he’d have to wait until he returned.
When dinner was served, the Jing City Meteorological Station was broadcasting the weather forecast.
“Attention citizens, we are now broadcasting an emergency meteorological message. This year’s 19th severe typhoon, ‘Sweet Orange,’ will reach our city around 21:00 tonight, with maximum winds near the center reaching level 14.”
“Under its influence, our city will experience persistent severe wind and rain accompanied by lightning. Citizens are advised to closely monitor the weather and prepare for wind and rainstorms…”
Chi Youchu looked at the calm weather outside the window. “A typhoon is coming tonight?”
Chi Yuheng pulled out a chair and sat down. “Mn. Don’t go back after dinner. There are plenty of rooms at home; pick one and stay here tonight.”
Chi Youchu had been living in the old residence with Chi Yuheng and the others. Later, he got into a university in a neighboring city. Since it was too far to commute, Chi Yuheng simply bought an apartment for him there.
Later, when Chi Yuheng and Ye Ran moved from the old residence to the new villa, Chi Youchu had only visited a few times. At that time, because he didn’t get along with Ye Ran, he didn’t stay here either, basically coming in the day and leaving at night.
After dividing the cake, Chi Youchu used a small fork to pick up a piece and put it in his mouth. The sweetness of the cream and ice cream melted layer by layer on his tongue, a cool sensation washing over his taste buds.
He always felt full of happiness when eating sweet things. Chi Youchu narrowed his eyes with a smile. “Ge, can I pick any room I want?”
Chi Yuheng nodded.
Chi Youchu’s eyes glanced upstairs, then his gaze fixed straight on Ye Ran.
Ye Ran, who was eating his cake peacefully, was stared at by this overly direct gaze, causing his movements to pause. The silver fork was still against his lips, and the cream on it hadn’t reached his mouth yet, even his chewing slowed down instinctively.
Fortunately, the gaze only stayed for a few seconds before shifting back to Chi Yuheng. “Ge, which floor is your room on?”
Chi Yuheng didn’t eat the ice cream cake. He picked up the juice and poured a glass for Ye Ran, replying casually, “2nd floor.”
Chi Youchu gave an “Oh” and tilted his chin up. “What about his?”
Chi Yuheng: “3rd floor.”
When he first found out that Chi Yuheng’s study and room were on the 2nd floor, Ye Ran insisted on choosing the 3rd floor.
If he chose the 2nd floor, what was the difference between that and staying right under Chi Yuheng’s nose? It would be easier to get caught if he wanted to sneak out and play.
After hearing this, Chi Youchu had an answer in his heart for where to choose a room. “Then I’ll stay on the 3rd floor.”
“Cough cough cough…”
Ye Ran almost choked to death on the juice.
While he was coughing, Chi Yuheng naturally reached out to pat his back. “Don’t drink so fast.”
Ye Ran didn’t want to! How was he to know that Chi Youchu would choose the same floor as him?
Seeing Ye Ran’s reaction, Chi Youchu’s little heart was a bit hurt. “You’re unwilling? We agreed to be brothers, and brothers naturally sleep on the same floor.”
“Is that okay?”
Chi Youchu was so focused on discussing being brothers with Ye Ran that he didn’t notice the change in Chi Yuheng’s expression at all.
He only felt a chill around him, it was a bit cold.
Was the typhoon arriving early?
Today was Ye Ran’s birthday. Chi Youchu bought him a cake, and he had prepared a gift for Chi Youchu as well. Although they weren’t on the same level in terms of cost, feelings aren’t measured by money.
Besides, Chi Youchu was only staying for one night and just wanted to choose a room on the same floor as him; there didn’t seem to be any reason to refuse.
Thus, Ye Ran gave a short, two-word reply: “It’s okay.”
Chi Youchu’s eyes brightened instantly. The “hurt” feelings from just now vanished, and he stuffed another piece of cake into his mouth, cold cream smearing on his lip corner. “Your taste is still the best; ice cream cake is indeed delicious.”
Ye Ran had already eaten two pieces of cake. Being praised by Chi Youchu made him want to eat another piece. His finger unconsciously rubbed the fork handle, while his peripheral vision glanced at Chi Yuheng beside him.
No change in expression, only a chill radiating from his body.
This glance completely stopped Ye Ran’s intention to eat another piece.
Since Chi Youchu had chosen his room, Chi Yuheng called the butler, Uncle Lin. “Youchu is staying here tonight.”
His tone was flat, but his gaze swept over Ye Ran. “Choose a room on the third floor and have someone clean it.”
Uncle Lin nodded. “Yes.”
Ye Ran originally thought that was it. Just as his fingertip touched his glass, he heard Chi Yuheng continue with his instructions, his tone devoid of any fluctuations: “Also, bring Young Master Ye’s bedding to my room and put it on my bed. He’s sleeping with me tonight.”
