Chapter 50: What Did You Take Me as if Not a Brother?
Those words were sinking.
Ye Ranâs gaze lowered. “I was just making an excuse. Who knew youâd actually add her?”
The corners of Chi Yuhengâs mouth lifted uncontrollably. “Are you angry that I added her WeChat?”
Angry?
Non-existent.
Ye Ran used his uninjured foot to kick the footrest of the wheelchair. “What do I have to be angry about? Whether you add her or not has nothing to do with me.”
To cover up the irritability in his heart, his fingertips rapidly tapped the armrest. “Hurry up and go in. We’re already the last to arrive; they’ll be anxious waiting.”
When Ye Ran and Chi Yuheng arrived, all eight people who had come to the island one after another were present.
The bar on the island wasn’t large, but it was different from bars outside; most other bars were made up of individual closed private rooms.
This bar, because it was converted from a guesthouse, retained its original architectural structure.
Only the first floor had noisy music; the second floor had the so-called private rooms, but they weren’t separate rooms; rather, they were an entire floorâone floor per “private room.”
Ye Ran and the others were on the top floor. The building wasn’t high, only four stories. There was a terrace outside the top floor, and every floor had a bartender.
Ye Ran and the others chose the outdoor terrace; while drinking, they could also enjoy the night view of the sea.
Because the owner loved to drink, the bar was fully stocked with all kinds of alcohol.
When Ye Ran was in Jing City, he had secretly gone to quite a few bars behind Chi Yuhengâs back. This was the first time he had seen a bar with so much alcoholâdazzling and colorful.
With a table full of alcohol, Ye Ran picked a bottle from among them that looked delicious. He didn’t even need a bottle openerâpop!âno one could see clearly how he had opened it.
Drinking should be done straight from the bottle to be satisfying. Ye Ran held up the bottle and called out loudly, “Let’s not return tonight until we’re drunk.”
Everyone else opened a bottle. Pei Si was the most active. “Watch me drink you all under the table tonight.”
Chi Youchu cast him a glance, his eyes full of doubt and mockery. “Are you sure? I don’t believe it.”
“My brother has told me about your alcohol tolerance. If you can drink us under the table, pigs will be able to climb trees.”
This mysterious targeting left Pei Si completely confused.
When they arrived on the island, he had taken the boat with the two Chi brothers. When they first boarded, he had said Chi Youchu was quite cute, with a face like a soup dumpling that looked very pinchable.
He successfully received two rolls of the eyes from Chi Youchu.
Later, Chi Youchu was sliding around on his suitcase like a crab. His mouth was too direct again, saying Chi Youchu indeed looked quite like a crab when he movedâwalking sideways.
He had gathered more “aggro” for himself.
To say he had offended Chi Youchu, that was before arriving on the island. He recalled that after arriving, he seemingly hadn’t provoked the boy.
Chi Youchu was just dead-set against Pei Si. Previously, when he bickered with Ye Ran, once they had bickered and made enough trouble, theyâd still be whatever they were before; it didn’t hinder them from being brothers now.
But Chi Youchu was different toward Pei Si. Pei Si said he looked like a bun and a crab; Chi Youchu held a grudge.
The two stared at each other, neither willing to lose. Ye Ran was missing two people to clink bottles with, so he directly interrupted them.
“What are you two looking at? You’re almost going cross-eyed.”
Ye Ranâs single sentence snapped the two out of it. Not only were they almost cross-eyed, but their distance was also truly a bit too close.
Chi Youchu quickly distanced himself from Pei Si and clinked bottles with Ye Ran. “Let’s drink.”
Others also brought their drinks over one after another. “Not returning until we’re drunk.”
After clinking bottles, Ye Ran brought the alcohol to his lips. When his mouth was still a bit away from the bottle opening, the entire bottle was taken from his hand, and immediately replaced with a glass of freshly squeezed fruit juice.
Ye Ran looked at the fruit juice in his hand, his two eyes almost going straight. He turned his head to glare at the person who had swapped his drink.
“Chi Yuheng! I come to a bar and you won’t let me drink alcohol, but give me fruit juice instead!”
Chi Yuheng spoke calmly, “Your foot was just injured today. The doctor said to avoid alcohol.”
Usually, Ye Ran could shamelessly try to strive for it, but as long as Chi Yuheng brought up what the doctor said, all his efforts would be in vain.
In Chi Yuhengâs view, Ye Ranâs physical health always came first. Since he was injured today, as long as it was something the doctor said not to do, there was no room for negotiation.
Knowing it was a dead end with Chi Yuheng, Ye Ranâs head slumped. Watching the alcohol but not being able to drink it made even the juice lose its flavor.
Since Ye Ran couldn’t drink, there was no point in just sitting there. His “fox friend” Xu Huiyang stepped forward. “How about we play a game? Whoever loses, drinks.”
Ye Ran instantly became interested and raised both hands in agreement.
Xu Huiyang: “I haven’t thought of what to play. Do you guys have any suggestions?”
Qiao Yubai was sitting at the very edge and was also actively speaking. “Play Truth or Dare.”
Xu Huiyang: “That works. Do you guys have anything else?”
Chi Youchu: “Fold fingers.”
Pei Si: “Fold fingers.”
They spoke in unison.
Xu Huiyang looked over. “You two have quite a tacit understanding.”
Chi Youchu: “Who wants a tacit understanding with someone with bad eyes, a bad brain, and a bad mouth?”
Pei Si: “Who wants a tacit understanding with a soup dumpling?”
Xu Huiyang, the temporary host, was confused.
Did these two not graduate from kindergarten? Infantile. Combined, they were three years old at most.
Xu Huiyang made a summary, “Then let’s do this: we’ll play Fold Fingers. The loser chooses Truth or Dare.”
Ye Ran and Qiao Yubai agreed. Ye Tingyun, Chi Yuheng, and the others didn’t have much interest in playing games, but seeing that Ye Ran and the others wanted to play, they had no choice but to accompany them.
The game started from Ye Tingyun.
Ye Tingyun hadn’t played this game much; he only heard Qiao Yubai tell him that if he could say one thing that he had and everyone else didn’t, he would win.
Ye Tingyun thought of one at random. “I have two brothers.”
Among those present, they either had an older brother or a younger brother. No one truly had two brothers.
Everyone silently folded one finger.
Ye Ran spotted Chi Yuheng folding a finger and nudged him with his elbow. “Why are you folding? Don’t you have two brothers?”
Hearing this, Chi Yuheng wanted to laugh. “Where did I get two brothers from?”
“Chi Youchu is your brother, and I can be considered one too.”
Playing games is mainly about finding loopholes. The “two brothers” Ye Tingyun mentioned weren’t all blood-related; at least Ye Ran had no substantial blood relationship with him.
Thus, it also made sense to call Ye Ran Chi Yuhengâs brother.
Chi Yuhengâs finger still folded down. “I didn’t take you as a brother.”
Ye Ranâs eyes widened like copper bells. “What did you take me as if not a brother?”
Translator’s Note:
“Fold Fingers” (ććć – zhĂŠ shÇuzhÇ) is a popular game (also known as “Ten Fingers” or “Never Have I Ever” with fingers) where you say something you’ve done (or in this version, something you have), and if the others don’t have it/haven’t done it, they fold a finger.
And Chi Yuhengâs lineâ”I didn’t take you as a brother”âis such a smooth confession! He’s basically saying his feelings for Ye Ran aren’t platonic at all. Poor Ye Ran is still in “brother” mode, but the Big Boss is definitely moving toward “husband” mode!
