Chapter 52: You Have a Husband, They Donât
He raised his hand to signal the bartender inside. The bartender came out immediately, and Ye Ran whispered a few words to him. The bartender nodded and returned inside.
When he came back out, he was carrying a glass of freshly squeezed fruit juice.
The bartender was somewhat helpless. As a mixologist, he wasn’t mixing drinks but just squeezing juice. Do rich people use bartenders as waiters?
Despite his internal grumbling, the bartender maintained his professional demeanor. He handed the glass over steadily and spoke respectfully, “Sir, the juice you requested.”
Ye Ran tilted his chin. “Give it to him.”
The bartender changed the direction of the glass and held it out to Chi Yuheng.
Fearing that Chi Yuheng wouldn’t take it, Ye Ran leaned back boldly against the sofa. His posture while drinking juice was even more enthusiastic than if he were drinking alcohol. After taking a sip, he patted Xu Huijiang.
“If your stomach isn’t good, don’t drink. Look, this juice of mine tastes pretty good.”
Although he was speaking to Xu Huijiang, Chi Yuheng understood what he was implying.
He felt as if his entire body were being bathed in warm water, and his eyes were full of smiles. He put down his wine and reached out to take the juice.
Chi Yuheng understood, but Xu Huijiang was bewildered.
He looked at Ye Ran and asked back, “When was my stomach ever not good?”
The next second, he received a sharp glare from Ye Ran.
It was just that coincidentalâthis scene was once again successfully captured by Pei Si.
It had to be said that after living together for so long, these two were surprisingly similar in some ways. For instance, those glares they threw were both incredibly precise and fierce.
As they say, people who sleep in the same bed truly start to look and act alike.
Xu Huijiang successfully received the glare. Out of brotherly understanding, he neatly accepted the blame. “Right, right, right. The traditional Chinese doctor said my spleen and stomach are weak. I should stick to juice too.”
He turned to the bartender. “Bring me a glass of juice as well.”
The bartender: “…”
It feels like I’m about to lose my job.
Chi Yuheng ignored the commotion and slowly sipped the juice in his glass.
The sweet and tart orange juice dissolved on his tongue, bringing with it the refreshing taste of fresh fruit. It felt exceptionally comfortable to drink; compared to alcohol, it was simply delicious.
On the surface, Ye Ran still pretended as if nothing were out of the ordinary, but from the corner of his eye, he peeked at Chi Yuheng from time to time.
Seeing that the man had drunk the juice, a happy smile flickered in his eyes.
He wasn’t caring about Chi Yuheng; it was just guilt for not knowing his Gaokao score.
The game had to continue. It was Chi Yuhengâs turn to speak.
Originally, he hadn’t been very interested in this game, but now his interest was piqued.
However, since his focus had been on Ye Ran just now, he hadn’t thought about anything he had that others didn’t.
Seeing this, Pei Si immediately seized the opportunity to rush him. He leaned forward and deliberately drawled, “Hurry up, CEO Chi. Don’t waste everyone’s time. I’ll give you ten more seconds. If you can’t say it, you lose this round, and we move on to the next person!”
Before Chi Yuheng could say anything, Chi Youchu got anxious first.
On one hand, he had been bickering with Pei Si all night; on the other hand, how could his brother possibly lose?
Impossible.
Without even thinking, Chi Youchu shouted a reminder to his brother, “Brother, you have a wife! They don’t!”
As soon as these words came out, the entire scene fell silent.
Even Pei Si stopped making noise, his gaze darting back and forth between Ye Ran and Chi Yuheng.
Those who understood, understood; those who didn’t quite understand were halfway there.
Only Ye Ran was still completely bewildered, his face full of confusion. He instinctively turned to Chi Yuheng, his clear eyes filled with questions, “When did you get a wife?”
“Are you stupid?” Chi Youchu stood up. “His wife is obviouslyâ achoo!“
Ye Ran was waiting for Chi Youchu to reveal the correct answer, but unfortunately, right at that moment, Chi Youchu let out a sneeze that blew the answer away.
Holding his juice, Chi Yuheng let out a light cough. “To be more precise, it’s a boyfriend who sleeps in the same bed.”
Who could top that?
Had anyone else ever slept with a male friend?
Ye Ran understood the meaning of those words. If that was the case…
Everyone else folded a finger, except for Ye Ran.
Pei Si piped up, “Why aren’t you folding?”
Ye Ran answered with his own interpretation, “If a boyfriend who sleeps in the same bed counts as a ‘wife,’ then I have a wife too.”
After saying that, his gaze lingered on Chi Yuheng.
Chi Yuheng: “…”
It was a game, after all; there was bound to be some element of exaggeration.
That was what Ye Ran thought anyway. Since Chi Yuheng could call him a wife, he could do the same.
Having successfully won a point, Ye Ran pushed further. It was his turn next.
He had thought of something long ago.
“I have…”
He had only uttered two words when he was interrupted by the brother-complex-afflicted Qiao Yubai. Afraid his brother would lose, Qiao Yubai thought of a foolproof one.
“Brother, you have a husband. They don’t.”
In one sentence, Ye Ran was rendered silent.
The hand he was using to hold his glass froze in mid-air. His eyes were even wider than before, and a thin layer of embarrassment hung on his face.
Qiao Yubai was only thinking about winning; he didn’t care about Ye Ran’s survival at all.
Ye Ran took a deep breath, wanting to defend himself. Before he could speak, he realized that everyone had folded their fingers in unison.
What shocked him the most was that Chi Yuheng had actually done it too.
His long fingers slowly curled inward, his well-defined knuckles lightly pressing against his palm. A trace of a smile he couldn’t hold back remained on his face, as if he completely accepted Qiao Yubaiâs absurd claim.
Ye Ranâs brain went “buzz.” How could they believe such nonsense?
“Wait a minute, why didn’t you guys ask me to explain after he finished speaking?”
Pei Si waved him off. “No need to explain. We believe it. This is something we can’t compete with. Move on to the next person, letâs speed up the game.”
Ye Ran: “…”
Clearly, he had been sabotaged, yet he ended up winning a point. And he won it in such a muddled way.
After a full round, the ones who had folded the most fingers were Pei Si and Ye Ran, tied for dead last.
According to the rules they had set beforehand, the two of them had to choose between Truth or Dare.
Chi Youchu had downloaded an app that could randomly generate questions for the game.
Pei Si chose Truth.
Chi Youchu randomly pulled a Truth question and read it aloud, “What is the most insincere thing you have ever said?”
This question wasn’t difficult. Pei Si answered without hesitation, “Saying that your face looks like a steamed bun.”
Chi Youchu froze.
He hadn’t expected Pei Siâs answer to be about him.
Furthermore, Pei Siâs expression seemed to suggest he deeply regretted saying such a thing.
Chi Youchu wasn’t that petty; he was a big-hearted person who wouldn’t hold a grudge against an old man. “I…”
The four words “forgive you” hadn’t even left his mouth when Pei Siâs mouth spoke again.
“Actually, I think your face looks more like a little milk bun. So soft and milky, it makes one want to take a bite.”
Chi Youchu: “…”
A flame of anger surged straight to the top of his head. Chi Youchu exploded, “Do you believe I can bite you to death right now?!”
The Q&A session instantly turned into a large-scale hunting ground.
Seeing that the question-asker, Chi Youchu, had turned into a hundred-meter sprinter, Xu Huijiang had no choice but to take over the role of host.
He asked Ye Ran, “What do you choose?”
With Pei Si as a cautionary tale, Ye Ran decisively chose Dare.
Various flamboyant prompts scrolled continuously on the phone. Two seconds later, the Dare prompt for Ye Ran froze on the screen.
