Chapter 8: Quite Adorable and Dorky
In the original plot, Chi Yuheng was not present at Ye Ran’s birthday banquet.
At that time, Ye Ran’s mindset had already warped. On one hand, he wanted his parents’ attention, while on the other, he acted like a White Lotus to get Chi Yuheng to help him deal with the Ye family.
He was completely possessed by the mindset of “if I can’t have it, I’ll destroy it.”
So back then, Chi Yuheng was very busy, and Ye Ran went to the birthday banquet alone; the Ye family hadn’t invited him either.
Now Ming Qingyan actually wanted to ask Chi Yuheng to go as well. Ye Ran also wanted to see how things would develop without him stirring up trouble in the middle.
But he wasn’t sure if Chi Yuheng would go.
After keeping him in bed for three days and now leaving him at home to go to the company, he probably would refuse without a second thought, right?
Ye Ran spoke truthfully. “I’ll ask him. He’s very busy.”
Ming Qingyan: “Okay, okay. Do your best. Mom wants to thank him for taking care of you for so long.”
Ye Ran: “Mn.”
Because of the interference from the phone call, his performance in this round of the game was subpar, and they lost. Ye Ran started feeling unhappy again.
After hanging up the phone, Ye Ran once again aimed his punches at the pillow.
“Chi Yuheng, not letting me out and not a peep from you all morning. What the hell are you doing?!”
…
“Not doing anything.”
Xin Yu reported to Chi Yuheng over the phone.
“It’s just…”
Chi Yuheng: “Just what?”
Xin Yu spoke the truth. “Young Master Ye is in a bad mood. He’s hitting you…”
Chi Yuheng was puzzled. “Hitting me?”
Xin Yu: “…’s pillow.”
Chi Yuheng was speechless.
Chi Yuheng frowned. “Next time, say everything in one breath.”
Xin Yu: “Yes.”
Chi Yuheng still caught the key point. “You said he’s in a bad mood?”
“Yes. Ms. Ming gave him a call this morning. After that, Young Master Ye’s mood wasn’t very good, and he’s been throwing upper-cuts and hooks at your pillow.”
Chi Yuheng supported his forehead. “I didn’t ask you to describe his boxing style. What did Ming Qingyan say to him?”
Xin Yu thought back. “It seemed to be asking him to bring you to the Ye family for a meal.”
…
In the evening, Ye Ran was finally released from his confinement by Chi Yuheng.
The account for running away from home was finally settled. Ye Ran gave Chi Yuheng a rare, triumphant smile.
“If you hadn’t let me go, I would have dug a hole in the floor to escape. Consider yourself quick to react, otherwise, the floor wouldn’t be safe.”
Chi Yuheng found these words funny and teased him. “So you’re a pangolin, with the function of digging through floors.”
Ye Ran blinked, and after reacting, he exploded. “You’re the pangolin! Your whole family are pangolins!”
Ye Ran was truly bristling.
Before Chi Yuheng returned, he had been hunched on the sofa playing games. His hair was messy like a bird’s nest, with two tufts of red hair sticking up on top. When the wind blew into the house, they wobbled slightly downward.
It was quite adorable and dorky.
Chi Yuheng couldn’t control himself and reached out to pat the top of Ye Ran’s head, rubbing the already messy hair even more, making those two tufts of “ahoge” stand up completely, fluttering in the night wind.
Ye Ran: “…Chi Yuheng!”
Chi Yuheng gave a doting smile. “I’m here.”
After making his hair like that, how could Chi Yuheng still smile?
Ye Ran wanted to bite someone.
He was about to get angry again, but remembering that he had to take Chi Yuheng back to the Ye family the day after tomorrow, he temporarily suppressed his temper to let Chi Yuheng be at ease for two more days.
In the blink of an eye, the cat about to bristle became much better behaved. He asked seemingly nonchalantly, “Do you have time the day after tomorrow evening?”
He thought that if Chi Yuheng didn’t have time or didn’t want to go, he would go by himself. It wasn’t a “Hongmen Banquet,” so he could still handle the rhythm.
Chi Yuheng: “I do.”
Ye Ran snapped his head up. “I haven’t even said what it is or what I’m doing.”
Chi Yuheng looked down at him. “No matter what you want to do, I have time.”
Aside from Chi Yuheng usually being very strict with him, Ye Ran thought that Chi Yuheng was actually quite good to him.
“My mom asked me to go home for dinner the day after tomorrow. she wants to ask you to go along.”
“Okay.”
Chi Yuheng agreed very quickly.
He knew that although Ye Ran lived in the Chi family, he always craved his parents’ concern.
Chi Yuheng’s parents were gone; even if he wanted to see them, he couldn’t. Right now, Chi Yuheng’s company held a piece of land that the Ye family wanted. The Ye family had been sending people to try and get it. Ming Qingyan suddenly wanting him to go—the purpose was obvious.
Ye Ran didn’t know these things.
If it were anyone else, Chi Yuheng definitely wouldn’t go.
His gaze was fixed on that person. Other things weren’t important; as long as he was happy, it was fine.
…
The next day, the liberated Ye Ran wanted to go out early in the morning.
Being cooped up at home for four days was the limit of his endurance. He was now like a little bird craving free flight, wanting to go out for a few laps no matter what.
Ye Ran was dressed in a sporty casual style, paired with gray sweatpants, an earphone casually clipped to his ear. His face was flawless, and combined with his super handsome looks, he was a textbook example of a pure male college student.
Upon leaving, he happened to bump into Chi Yuheng coming out of the study.
His hair was slightly messy and there were dark circles under his eyes; he looked low on energy, as if he hadn’t slept all night.
Ye Ran clicked his tongue twice. He was too “wrapped up”—being a CEO and not sleeping, just wrapping himself in work.
If one sentence were used to describe them as students still in school, it would be “living people who are slightly dead.”
Then the description for the “work horses” would be “dead people who are slightly alive.”
Even if this position were tossed to him for free, he couldn’t do it.
He’d be exhausted to death sooner or later.
Chi Yuheng saw that he not only didn’t sleep in but was also fully dressed so early.
“Where are you going?” he asked.
“Going shopping (gai).”
Chi Yuheng stared at him; he just couldn’t speak properly.
“How are you going out?”
“Taking a taxi.”
Ye Ran didn’t like Chi Yuheng’s cars. They were all the specialized vehicles of CEOs in novels—proper and formal, and almost no other colors besides black.
“I’ll have the driver take you.”
Ye Ran waved his hand. “No need. Taking a taxi is very convenient.”
He didn’t say it, but he actually didn’t want to sit in those Bentleys or Rolls-Royces. Those cars, like their owners, were full of “daddy vibes.”
“Be good. It’s hard to get a car this early.”
Ye Ran thought about it and realized it was true. This new house he and Chi Yuheng moved into was good in every way, the only drawback being it was too big. It was exhausting just walking from the living room to his bedroom. It was too far from the city area, so it really wouldn’t be easy to get a taxi this early.
“Fine then.”
…
Chi Yuheng, who was supposed to go catch up on sleep, didn’t rest. Instead, he took a shower, changed his clothes, and went to the largest clubhouse in Jing City.
Upon arrival, someone immediately led him to a private room on the top floor of the clubhouse.
“Are they all here?”
The waiter answered while walking, “They’ve all arrived. They’ve been waiting for you for a while.”
