Synopsis

Part 1: The Setup

When Lan Yu transmigrated into a pure urban romance novel, the original host was in the middle of running away from home. Lan Yu immediately decided to commit to the bit—who wants to go back just to be a cannon fodder plot device used to push the story forward?

That was, until the day he opened the door to his rental unit and froze.

A vast crimson and black sky and a colossal mansion had appeared inside his ten-square-meter room.

A massive black entity, too large to be fully seen, sprawled over the mansion and extended a rotting hand toward him. Sitting in the palm of that hand was a small cupcake lit by a blue flame candle.

“Welcome home. Mom and Dad prepared dessert for you.”

Lan Yu stood there, sluggish and stunned. Where was the urban romance? Where was his slice-of-life love story?

Lan Yu: “What would happen if I ran away from home again?”

Mom & Dad: “Don’t do that, baby. It’d be better if you just died.”

Lan Yu: Hiccup.

Part 2: The Daily Life

[The Department Gathering]

At a company party, Lan Yu behaved obediently: “My family has a rule against drinking.”

“You’re the newest hire in the whole department; if you don’t drink, are we supposed to drink for you?!”

Lan Yu hesitated, then drank a little.

The next day, the department supervisor took sudden leave without reason. No one noticed that Lan Yu’s face was equally pale. Yesterday, Lan Yu had watched with his own eyes as a certain brother—who had no physical form and resembled rotting sludge—slid through the phone line to “reason” with the supervisor. The supervisor’s shrieks of terror still echoed in his ears.

[The Expensive Meal]

“You got paid, right? Won’t you treat me, your introducer, to a meal?” asked one of his few friends.

“I have to hand my salary over to my parents for safekeeping,” Lan Yu replied.

“No way, you’re this old and they still control your money? You don’t even have the freedom to treat a guest?”

Lan Yu: “But I can apply for it.”

Three days later, the two walked out of a glorious, ultra-high-end restaurant.

Standing at the hotel entrance, the friend said, “My legs went weak seeing the digits on that menu. Is your salary enough?”

Lan Yu: “I don’t know. My sister paid.”

Friend, questioning life: “Are you a rich second generation?”

Lan Yu, questioning life x2: “Possibly? Maybe? Perhaps?”

Part 3: The Reveal

It wasn’t until Lan Yu’s real relatives came looking for him that he realized the original host’s family wasn’t this family of eldritch horrors at all.

His identity when entering this strange house wasn’t the youngest son, but the youngest son’s partner?

Lan Yu stared blankly at his own shadow beneath his feet. His fiancé—the Shadow of the World—drew a smiley face upon the darkness.

It smiled dangerously at its lover.
