Chapter 30: You Want to Die?
Even though Feng Shi had already guessed some of it, he couldn’t stop being a little surprised.
The mother flood dragon’s bloodline was impure to begin with. Mating with a fish demon explained why the Little Black Flood Dragon’s constitution was so weak and his figure so meager, unable to transform even at this age.
Feng Shi thought for a moment, then asked some more conceivable questions, which the Little Black Snake answered seriously.
“Then can you sense your father? Now.”
Hearing this, the Little Black Snake raised its head to sniff the surroundings, then buried its head in the water, bubbling to exchange breath. Finally, it shook its head.
Feng Shi was somewhat discouraged. Communication like this was too troublesome after all. After so long, he had only extracted a little bit of information.
That night, the Little Black Snake indeed sensed a familiar aura, so maybe the limiting condition was nighttime. And the Little Black Snake’s mother and the Little Black Snake were only staying temporarily in the Merman Cave, waiting for his father to return.
But for some reason, the father never came back. Then a group of people rushed into the cave and killed the mother flood dragon. The Little Black Snake avoided death because the mother flood dragon hid him.
As for more details, due to their communication barrier, the Little Black Snake couldn’t express them.
“Then let’s leave it at that for now. Tonight, I’ll take you with me again. If you want to come out, just bite my finger.”
The Little Black Snake wrapped around his fingertip and nodded, then buried its head back into the water bottle.
Feng Shi placed the lid loosely on the bottle and stood up.
Turning around, he saw the little white dumpling on the bed, who had been meditating, had opened his eyes and was staring intently at Feng Shi at this very moment.
The back of Feng Shi’s neck went numb.
Laughing sheepishly, he quietly took a step back, afraid the other party would settle the score for that spanking yesterday evening.
Shen Songhe came back to his senses, coldly retracting his gaze and closing his eyes, as if the person staring deeply just now wasn’t him.
Feng Shi’s tightened heart relaxed a little, and he touched the tip of his nose.
As long as it wasn’t settling old scores, it was fine.
In these past few days, Shen Songhe’s spiritual power had mostly recovered. Although the heavenly lightning was heavy, there was only one bolt. It didn’t damage his foundation, merely beating him back to his original form. He would recover after resting for a while.
Just now, the reason he stared at Feng Shi in a trance was simply that he saw the shadow of an old friend on him again.
Too similar.
He didn’t know since when, but the shadow of that old friend on Feng Shi became more and more prevalent, almost covering up his own shadow.
Current Feng Shi only resembled him by thirty percent; he looked more like that person…
It had been a hundred years. He had waited long enough, even starting to suspect that the person saying he would return was just lying to him.
A trace of pain flooded into Shen Songhe’s slightly opened eyes. He clenched his hands, closing his eyes tightly to endure the tyranny in his heart.
That night, Feng Shi took the Little Black Snake and went into the city again with Xiao Yuhui and Cao Ni.
Because of this incident, any somewhat good-looking woman in Linyu City was living in constant fear. Girls from powerful families had long been sent away by their families, leaving only those who couldn’t leave and those in the brothels who couldn’t help themselves.
And tonight, Yan Cheng’s target was the top courtesan in the brothel who sold her art but not her body—Ruan Yan.
Ruan Yan was only sixteen. Because she was favored by the madam, she lived alone in a pavilion. Although news was received recently and guards were increased, by the time Feng Shi and the others arrived, the few guards had long been trampled into mud.
The black shadow’s figure blotted out the sky. The lantern in its hand shone as always, standing in front of the pavilion for a long time.
It reached its hand into the window, groping around, humming an ethereal song. This song seemed to have some magic power, dazzling and confusing those who heard it.
Feng Shi shut off his hearing in time, so he wasn’t bewildered.
Simultaneously, Xiao Yuhui and Cao Ni also noticed something wrong.
“So this singing has this effect. No wonder those previous women couldn’t escape when he reached inside.” Xiao Yuhui said.
Feng Shi pursed his lips, gathered his breath, and circled to the side of the pavilion.
This pavilion had three floors.
Ruan Yan slept on the third floor, with windows on three sides. Feng Shi carefully lifted a window to look inside.
He saw the furnishings inside were in chaos. The bedding on the couch was messy, and no one was there.
That black hand was constantly groping in the room. Finding nothing, it actually lifted the bed directly.
Only then did Feng Shi finally see Ruan Yan.
She was still wearing her sleeping undergarments, long hair loose, curling her thin body on the floor under the bed, covering her ears with both hands, biting her lower lip and weeping silently.
Seeing the monster lift the cover, her whole body shook violently. She stood up in panic but carefully, wanting to find another place to hide.
It was at this moment she saw Feng Shi.
Meeting her gaze, Feng Shi waved at her without thinking, then opened his arms.
Ruan Yan was a clever and decisive girl. Without much hesitation, she ran toward him, leaped out of the window, and landed steadily in Feng Shi’s arms.
Feng Shi could feel Ruan Yan’s cold tears smearing on his neck.
However, before they could steady themselves on the sword, the black shadow monster discovered them.
Those blood-red eyes opened into circles, looking at Feng Shi and Ruan Yan in his arms in unison.
“Found… it…”
It paused word by word. The hand inserted in the pavilion extended further, penetrating the pavilion and swinging directly toward them.
“Junior Brother, careful!”
Below, Xiao Yuhui swung his sword, hitting the black shadow’s palm, but it didn’t have any substantial effect.
Feng Shi controlled the sword under him to land quickly. He pushed Ruan Yan into Cao Ni’s arms and shouted, “Senior Brother, help look after her for a moment!”
Then he flashed quickly, leaped onto the pavilion, took the bottle from his waist, and released the Little Black Snake.
Cao Ni threw the person in his arms onto the ground with an ugly expression, leaving only a sentence “Don’t move,” before flying to Feng Shi’s side and grabbing his wrist.
“You want to die?”
Feng Shi’s hands were busy forming seals, having no time to respond to him.
As the seal formation ended, rich golden light permeated Feng Shi’s whole body. With a flick of two fingers, the Little Black Flood Dragon wrapped in water flew out from the glass bottle suspended in front of him.
Subsequently, a tinier singing voice rang out.
This time, it didn’t come from the black shadow monster’s mouth.
Feng Shi injected his spiritual energy into the water, gradually wrapping it into a water ball to ensure it wouldn’t scatter, and only then slowly opened his eyes.
In front of him, the black shadow monster paused its movements amidst the somewhat unpracticed singing.
Feng Shi saw the lantern carried in the monster’s hand suddenly burst into great brilliance. The originally flickering light seemed placed in a windless realm, burning ardently.
Although Feng Shi couldn’t understand the meaning in the song, he could hear it was a cheerful tune.
The Little Black Snake swam in mid-air. Accompanied by his movements, the water mass followed him forward.
The monster froze in his singing, as if becoming the most ordinary shadow in this world.
Moments later, the singing suddenly became high-pitched.
The Little Black Snake hummed and sang stumblingly. Under the moonlight, the water ball refracted crystal-clear light.
Night winds blew fiercely. The black shadow’s huge figure suddenly became hazy, like a trapped mass of thick fog suddenly released, diluted, and dissipated, revealing the true face inside.
