Chapter 2: Competing with Huo Qingyan; You Don’t Want to Live
“Who’s that young man?”
“Who knows? To dare to compete with Huo Qingyan face-to-face; they don’t want to live.”
“He looks kind of familiar, like a washed-up star…”
Ignoring the surrounding whispers, Jiang Su looked directly at Huo Qingyan.
Huo Qingyan narrowed his dark eyes slightly, his expression fierce, his anger more evident than before.
The person sitting next to Huo Qingyan reached out and touched his arm, whispering something.
Huo Qingyan’s expression softened slightly before turning away without looking at Jiang Su again.
Although Jiang Su didn’t see who was beside Huo Qingyan, his own expression grew cold.
Huo Qingyan had always been superior, his temperament naturally domineering. He was used to giving orders, and no one dared to advise him.
Except for one person.
…
Perhaps the person beside Huo Qingyan’s persuasion had worked. Huo Qingyan didn’t bid again, and Jiang Su bought the painting for ten million.
The auction house owner knew Jiang Su was the youngest son of the Jiang family and spoke to him politely.
“I didn’t know Young Master Jiang would grace us with your presence. Please forgive my oversight.”
“You’re too kind. Please have someone deliver the painting to my second sister’s house.”
Jiang Su was thinking about Huo Qingyan and left in a hurry after speaking to the owner.
The auction had ended, and it was quiet.
Had Huo Qingyan left?
Suddenly, someone grabbed Jiang Su’s wrist from behind.
“Come with me.” A low male voice sounded.
Jiang Su turned around and was met with a familiar scent.
He couldn’t help but be happy: “You haven’t left yet.”
Huo Qingyan pulled him to a deserted corner, his tone cold: “Who told you I was here?”
Jiang Su was startled, realizing Huo Qingyan had misunderstood, thinking he had come because he was here.
Jiang Su explained, “It’s Second Sister…”
Huo Qingyan interrupted, frowning: “Jiang Ying told you?”
He remembered seeing Jiang Ying at the airport earlier.
Jiang Su was the youngest; his older siblings doted on him, and Huo Qingyan knew this, so he didn’t dwell on it: “Give me the painting.”
“Do you really want that painting?” Although Jiang Su was angry about Huo Qingyan’s misunderstanding, Huo Qingyan had mentioned the painting twice, and if he really wanted it, he could ask his second sister for it.
Before Huo Qingyan could speak, a man walked over.
“Qingyan, can we go?”
Jiang Su looked up and recognized the person, his breath catching: “Lin Siyue?”
Lin Siyue acted as if he had just seen Jiang Su and smiled, “It’s Jiang Su.”
Huo Qingyan was cold and arrogant, showing no favoritism, except for Lin Siyue.
Lin Siyue was his classmate in middle school and later studied abroad with him. Their close relationship led many to speculate that they were together.
Later, Huo Qingyan returned to China after obtaining his doctorate, while Lin Siyue settled abroad, ending the speculation.
Now, Lin Siyue was back.
Lin Siyue explained calmly, “Don’t misunderstand. I asked Qingyan to come to the auction with me. I wanted to use Qingyan’s influence to buy the painting cheaply, but I didn’t expect you to like it too, so I’ll let you have it.”
So, Huo Qingyan wanted the painting for Lin Siyue.
Huo Qingyan was usually impatient even to watch a movie with him at home but could easily accompany Lin Siyue to an auction that lasted several hours.
It was clear who Huo Qingyan cared more about.
The facts were undeniable; Jiang Su couldn’t deceive himself and couldn’t remain calm.
He looked coldly at Lin Siyue, sneering: “Let me have it? Things at auctions are always won by the highest bidder. You couldn’t afford it, so you say you’ll let me have it? How audacious!”
Lin Siyue hadn’t expected Jiang Su to suddenly lose his temper and his face froze slightly.
Huo Qingyan’s face was covered with frost, his low voice cold and sharp: “Jiang Su, apologize!”
His brows were tightly furrowed, showing his displeasure. His dark eyes were fixed on Jiang Su, like ice daggers, making Jiang Su feel both cold and hurt.
Jiang Su gritted his teeth, clenching his hands at his sides, turning his face to look at the vast expanse of snow outside.
Huo Qingyan was somewhat surprised. For two years of marriage, Jiang Su had always been obedient, even his former bit of a spoiled nature was gone. What was going on today?
Lin Siyue spoke, “Qingyan, Jiang Su is still young, why are you arguing with him?”
The way he said it was as if Jiang Su was the outsider.
Before Jiang Su could speak, he heard Huo Qingyan say, “Drive yourself home.”
Realizing the words were addressed to him, Jiang Su looked up, but Huo Qingyan had already turned to Lin Siyue, “The snow is getting heavier, I’ll take you home.”
“Thank you,” Lin Siyue said with a smile, then looked meaningfully at Jiang Su, “Jiang Su, goodbye.”
There was clear provocation in that look!
Watching their backs leave, Jiang Su felt like the outsider.
Lin Siyue was clearly prepared, and Huo Qingyan’s eyes were full of Lin Siyue; Huo Qingyan had even yelled at him because of Lin Siyue.
No wonder Huo Qingyan hadn’t replied to his messages for a week.
What was he to Huo Qingyan, after all?
Jiang Ying called again.
Jiang Su composed himself, trying to make his voice sound normal, “Second Sister, I bought the painting for you. It cost ten million.”
“It’s fine, ten million isn’t expensive.” Jiang Ying had always spoiled him and immediately heard the abnormality in his voice, “What’s wrong with you? Your voice sounds strange.”
“Maybe it’s because it’s too cold. I have to go home now.” Jiang Su brushed it off lightly.
Jiang Ying felt relieved, “Okay, be careful on your way. The snow is heavy. Drive slowly and call Sister when you get home.”
Jiang Su responded, “Okay.”
It was already eleven o’clock at night.
A thin layer of snow had already accumulated on the road.
Remembering Jiang Ying’s instructions, Jiang Su drove slowly.
Despite his caution, an accident happened.
At an intersection, an electric bicycle crossed the road. Fortunately, Jiang Su reacted quickly and swerved to avoid it.
But the snowy road was slippery, and the car lost control, crashing into the roadside railing.
After a loud “bang,” Jiang Su lost consciousness.
…
When he woke up, he was in the hospital.
As soon as Jiang Su opened his eyes, he heard Jiang Ying call him, “Xiaoqi? You’re finally awake. Are you in pain anywhere? I’ll call a doctor.”
“Second Sister,” Jiang Su called out to her, then started looking for his phone.
Jiang Ying understood her brother and knew he was looking for his phone to see if Huo Qingyan had called.
With a cold face, she handed the phone to Jiang Su.
The phone showed it was six o’clock in the morning and displayed five or six missed calls.
Jiang Su felt happy, thinking Huo Qingyan was indeed worried about him.
