Chapter 2
Yan He didn’t understand but respected the decision. He quickly replied with an “OK” sticker.
Just as he put his phone down, Pan Ze’s increasingly cold voice exploded next to his ear: “I told you to raise your heads!”
Like startled fawns, the specially-enrolled students tremblingly raised their heads. Yan He had learned his lesson this time and followed suit only after seeing everyone else look up.
But the students still didn’t dare to look directly at Pan Ze, their eyes fixed on the pale gold nameplate on his chest.
Pan Ze satisfactorily admired the terrified expressions of these little beasts. His gaze swept past the face of the owner of the swan-like neck from before. Yan He was wearing a light blue mask, and although his full face wasn’t visible, one could see a pair of exceptionally beautiful, glass-grey eyes, clear and pure.
He was the only specially-enrolled student on the scene who dared to meet his gaze.
As if suddenly forgetting the young master He’s instructions, Pan Ze walked uncontrollably towards Yan He.
The closer Pan Ze got, the more panicked the students became. It was a primal instinct for survival. They were certain that this rich young master with the pale gold nameplate was a ferocious beast that could easily take their lives!
Yan He frowned slightly, watching Pan Ze approach him. Was my bootlicking not convincing enough? Yan He was a little indignant; he had plenty of experience from his past life as a corporate slave.
The student sitting in front of Yan He turned pale as a sheet. He suddenly doubled over in discomfort, his stomach churning, and he could no longer hold it back.
The bus fell silent in an instant.
Pan Ze looked at Yan He, who was obediently watching the show a meter away. His gaze moved down, stiffening as he saw his uniform, now covered in filth. The sour-smelling vomit slid down his uniform and landed on his eye-catching, orange brand-name sneakers.
Pan Ze’s fingers trembled with rage. He pointed at the tall yet exceptionally thin student and roared, “Did you puke on me on purpose? Do you know who I am? Do you want me to bite you to death?”
Bai Yuzhou’s face was pale and taut. He immediately stood up from his seat. “I’m sorry, I get carsick.”
Especially after the driver had slammed on the brakes so suddenly, he just couldn’t control it anymore.
Seeing Pan Ze covered in filth, the other specially-enrolled students subconsciously recoiled.
Meeting Pan Ze’s murderous glare, Bai Yuzhou wanted to help wipe him clean, but his pockets were empty. He paused, then reached for his own clean, white T-shirt.
His grandmother, upon hearing he’d been accepted to Bestia Academy, had happily traveled thirty miles to the market to buy it for him, saying she wanted him to go to school looking presentable.
Just then, a slender, fair hand suddenly reached out from behind. The skin on the arm was very white, with faint, delicate veins winding beneath it like flowers. The long, slender fingers were holding a pack of tissues.
Yan He had been running a fever for the past two days, accompanied by a runny nose, so he always kept tissues in his pocket.
Bai Yuzhou’s eyes quickly swept over Yan He’s face. He quietly murmured his thanks and took the tissue pack.
The hand holding the tissues was burning hot, as if it still held Yan He’s warmth.
Bai Yuzhou pulled out a tissue to help Pan Ze, but Pan Ze violently slapped his outstretched hand away. With disgust, he quickly took off his uniform jacket and decisively threw it out the window, scaring off a group of animals that had been watching the spectacle with amusement.
“Get away from me! Who gave you permission to touch me? What’s your name?”
Yan He heard the student say, “Bai Yuzhou.”
Fuck!
Bai Yuzhou?!
Yan He was also very familiar with this name, because this was the protagonist shou of Animalistic Desires in the Academy!
Yan He couldn’t help but sigh. As expected of a protagonist, trouble followed him wherever he went.
Yan He recalled his female colleagues’ descriptions. On his first day at Bestia Academy, Bai Yuzhou had offended one of the F4 by vomiting due to carsickness, instantly becoming famous on campus.
After that, just like in any cliché noble academy novel, Bai Yuzhou would receive a red card warning issued by the F4. After numerous setbacks and struggles, he would rise to the pinnacle of the academy, stand on equal footing with the F4, and become the new king of Bestia Academy.
Yan He: …Ah, this.
Yan He silently looked at the tissues clutched tightly in Bai Yuzhou’s hand. It seemed the protagonist shou and the F4 were on a confrontational path, while he was supposed to be a dog for the F4…
Staring at Bai Yuzhou’s tense profile, Yan He remembered his colleagues affectionately calling him the academy’s coolest wolf, and he really couldn’t see the connection.
Pan Ze shouted at the top of his lungs, “All of you, get off the bus!”
The driver, who never got involved in student conflicts, couldn’t help but cautiously interject, “Young Master Pan, I still need to get the specially-enrolled students to the registration office on time.”
A malicious grin spread across Pan Ze’s face as he repeated, “Get off the bus!”
Bestia Academy was vast. If they had to walk from the school gate to the academic affairs office in the center of the campus, it would take several hours at the very least.
Moreover, everyone was new to the school and had brought heavy luggage.
Specially-enrolled students tended to stick together. With this move, Pan Ze had directly made Bai Yuzhou a public enemy among them.
The rich kids wouldn’t tolerate him, and the specially-enrolled students wouldn’t accept him. He would truly become a lone wolf. One had to admit, the author really knew how to build up the protagonist’s character.
A group of specially-enrolled students bit their lips in grievance, shot a resentful glare at Bai Yuzhou, but didn’t dare to defy Pan Ze. They picked up their luggage and filed off the bus.
In the distance, the hour hand of a giant, Roman-style stone clock tower just hit two o’clock, and the dull toll of the bell rang out. At the very top of that clock tower, unnoticed by anyone, stood a giant golden eagle, staring intently in the direction of the students.
The specially-enrolled students stood in a line under the scorching sun. The sound of the bell made them increasingly irritable. A drone hovered above their heads, broadcasting the scene live.
On the Academy Forums
【Raccoon Who Doesn’t Eat Dry Noodles】: Hahaha, I’m dying of laughter. Pan Ze got puked on by a specially-enrolled student. I want to know who was intimidating whom here?
【Looks-Obsessed Hamster Bro】: Does anyone have info on the student who puked on Young Master Pan? Hmm, he seems to be the best-looking one in this batch? If he’s good-looking, I can just about forgive him. It’s not like he puked on me, anyway.
【Lazy Sheep】: Is that the point? The point is the student wearing a mask, right? This guy doesn’t have some infectious disease, does he?
【Owl with Glasses】 replying to 【Lazy Sheep】: Holy crap, I suddenly remember that in last year’s batch, there was a stupid pig who got swine flu. Wild Boar Bro from the art department almost got infected and wiped out. So, what kind of animal is this masked student? Please don’t let it be a bird!
The bus was forced to stop horizontally, blocking the iron gate, and the alarm, unable to close, blared continuously.
Pan Ze stood sneering in the shade of a tree, watching the students bake in the sun. Like a drill sergeant calling roll during military training, the corner of his mouth was curled in a contemptuous smile. “State what you are.”
At Bestia Academy, students did their best to hide their true beast forms to avoid encountering natural enemies. To this day, no one knew what ferocious beasts the F4 were.
But that didn’t include the specially-enrolled students, who were only fit to be prey.
Yan He was already feverish. Standing under the sun, he dazedly watched as, one by one, the students timidly stepped forward, muttering things like “rabbit,” “mouse,” “chicken”…
Yan He: ? Why are they announcing their zodiac signs? This noble academy is a bit different, huh?
Yan He was a little unsure. They must be announcing their zodiacs, right?
His gaze shifted slightly to Bai Yuzhou. After a moment of silence, he said, “I only know it’s Canidae.”
Canidae? What does that mean? His zodiac is the dog?
Yan He remembered his colleagues saying that the protagonist shou entered the academy at the age of eighteen. People who were eighteen this year would have been born in the year of the dog, the same age as him.
Yan He felt something was a little off, but he couldn’t put his finger on it.
Pan Ze sneered, “Each batch is worse than the last.”
When it was Yan He’s turn, Pan Ze’s heart suddenly stirred. He strode out of the shade. “Let me guess.”
Although he couldn’t see what Yan He looked like, those glass-grey eyes were too beautiful—so beautiful he wanted to dig them out and preserve them in the specimen museum.
Pan Ze stared at Yan He’s smooth, elegant, fair neck—the most fatal and fragile part of an animal. Yan He exposed it so fearlessly, and Pan Ze suddenly had the urge to bare his teeth and take a vicious bite.
But at that moment, a sharp bird cry pierced the air. In his daze, Yan He noticed a massive, bird-shaped shadow suddenly appear at his feet, completely enveloping him.
Looking up, he saw a giant golden eagle with a wingspan of nearly two meters. It had come from somewhere at an incredible speed.
Almost simultaneously, a chill shot up from the soles of every specially-enrolled student’s feet.
The golden eagle’s wings violently swatted the drone out of the air, sending it crashing to the ground in pieces and instantly cutting off the live broadcast to the forums.
Before Pan Ze could even react, the sharp talons, glinting coldly under the afternoon sun, decisively clawed at the top of his head.
Pan Ze only felt a chill on his scalp, and his legs went weak with fright.
The talons snatched Pan Ze’s wig, then casually dropped it from high up in the air. The eagle let out a sharp, warning-like cry, flapped its wings, and flew away.
The entire incident took no more than five seconds.
Pan Ze was on the verge of a breakdown. “What the fuck, my wig!”
Yan He stared in disbelief at the bird flying into the distance. “?”
Yan He didn’t know much about animals, so he wasn’t sure what kind of bird it was, but judging by its size, he thought it was a bird of prey, probably a nationally protected wild animal.
The kind of bird that could land you in jail. He had only ever seen one in a zoo; this was his first time seeing one up close in the wild.
Besides the lingering fear, Yan He also found it bizarre. A giant bird of prey goes hunting, and all it catches is a wig? Talk about using a cannon to shoot a mosquito.
Seeing Pan Ze sitting on the ground clutching his head, the students thought he didn’t seem so scary anymore. At least their own hair was particularly thick.
“What are you looking at? Close them! All of you, close your fucking eyes, ahhh…”
Pan Ze scrambled to his feet, screaming incoherently. The arrogant air he had put on in front of the students was gone in an instant. Clutching the balding top of his head, he sprinted towards his sports car.
That wasn’t just a wig; that was his dignity, scattered all over the ground, impossible to pick back up!
Pan Ze got into his sports car, stepped on the gas, and sped away.
Yan He rubbed his throbbing head. He felt that there was something really strange about this noble academy.
A rich young master going bald at such a young age? He’d rather wear a wig than get hair transplants.
One of the students asked cautiously, “So, are we still walking?”
The group of students looked at each other.
Bai Yuzhou was the first to turn and walk towards the bus door. He quickly stopped, extended his other hand—calloused from farm work—took Yan He’s suitcase, and lifted it onto the bus.
The others, as if waking from a dream, also got back on the bus.
Yan He leaned against the window. As the driver restarted the engine, he happened to see a black, extended Lincoln, reeking of money, quietly drive out while the gate was still open, passing them by.
He vaguely saw a snake emblem on the luxury car, seeming to represent some financial conglomerate family.
The specially-enrolled students suddenly felt a sense of post-disaster relief. They patted their chests and began to discuss in low voices, “What do you think that Young Master Pan was? It was so scary. When he got on the bus, my soul almost flew out of my body.”
“I did some research before coming to the academy. I heard that Young Master Pan is one of the F4’s lackeys. We can’t afford to offend him.”
Bai Yuzhou sat in the seat in front of Yan He. In a voice so quiet only Yan He could hear, he said, “Hyena.”
The fur of an African hyena is coarse and sparse. Their undercoat is underdeveloped, and in some cases, completely absent. That’s why Pan Ze, unlike most men, had very little body hair.
Bai Yuzhou had seen a documentary on the animal world. African hyenas do not belong to the Canidae family. Their society is matriarchal, with a hyena queen leading the clan. Although Pan Ze had transformed into a ferocious beast, the strength and status of a male hyena were very low.
There was a reason why Pan Ze was only fit to be a lackey for the F4.
Yan He: Hunting dog?
Pan Ze was also a lackey for one of the F4. That made them colleagues.
Since we’re both dogs, he thought, why does Pan Ze get to be a hunting dog while I can only be a husky?
