Chapter 60: Sweet, Sweet, Sweet
Once his condition stabilized, the Big Dumpling was transferred to a VIP ward. Lin Xia and the White Dumpling stayed behind to keep him company.
When the Little Hamster returned home, he found the house empty with soup still simmering in the kitchen. He immediately had Chen Mingzong call Lin Xia to ask what was going on.
Lin Xia, in his rush to get the Big Dumpling to the hospital, had completely forgotten about the soup. He asked Chen Mingzong to turn off the stove for him and mentioned he wouldn’t be coming home that night. Unexpectedly, the Little Hamster and Chen Mingzong insisted on bringing them dinner. Chen Mingzong took all the vegetables Lin Xia had already chopped, stir-fried them together in one pot, and the Little Hamster was in charge of packing it into lunchboxes.
Although Chen Mingzongās cooking skills were average, Lin Xia felt incredibly lucky to eat a meal cooked personally by Chen Mingzong in this lifetimeāsomething even Chen Mingjie had never had the chance to experience.
That night, Lin Xia and the White Dumpling stayed at the hospital to look after the Big Dumpling. One benefit of the VIP ward was that it came prepared with a companion bed, spacious enough for Lin Xia and the White Dumpling to sleep together without feeling crowded.
They slept peacefully through the night.
Sunlight from the spring morning streamed through the window, landing on closed eyelids. In his sleep, Tang Yinlang felt his eyelids growing warmer and warmer until he suddenly snapped his eyes open.
Tang Yinlang felt awful all over, especially his head, which throbbed and spun as if he had rammed it into a wall. He tried to speak, but his throat was parched, like he hadn’t had water in ages.
“Ao?”
Tang Yinlang tried to produce a voice, but only a growl came out. He quickly realized what was happening. He lifted his hand to look, and sure enough, a paw greeted his sight, confirming his suspicion.
He had turned back into his original form!
Tang Yinlang tried to recall what had happened previously. Slowly, the events of the past few days played out in his mind: from the car accident to playing on the slide, and the time spent with Lin Xia and the others as the Big Dumpling.
Ao? The Big Dumpling covered his face, wanting nothing more than to bury himself. He couldn’t accept that he had done so many foolish things. How could that tigerāthe one who only knew how to be silly, act cute, and embarrass the entire tiger speciesābe him?!
The Big Dumpling wallowed in shame for a long time. It took a significant amount of mental coaching before he could struggle to his feet and look around.
Turning his head, Tang Yinlang saw Lin Xia and the White Dumpling sleeping on the companion bed. Lin Xia slept on the outside, protecting the White Dumpling curled on the inside. The father and son were sleeping soundly, their breathing rising and falling in a peaceful rhythm.
The moment he saw the two of them, the Big Dumpling’s gaze softened. He shifted back to his normal size, crept off the bed with light paws, and sat by their bedside, staring at them for a while. Suddenly thinking of something, he quietly slipped out of the room.
Not long after Tang Yinlang left, Lin Xia woke up. blinking in confusion at the room’s decor before remembering he was in the hospital.
After his morning routine of kissing the White Dumpling, Lin Xia stretched and casually turned to look at the Big Dumpling on the opposite bed.
However, aside from a small quilt, there was no sign of the Big Dumpling. Panic set in, and Lin Xia began frantically searching the room for the tiger.
Not under the bed, not in the cabinet, not in the bathroom… After searching the entire ward, Lin Xia realized the Big Dumpling was gone. He rushed out to find a doctor.
Bang!
In his haste to run out, Lin Xia collided with Tang Yinlang at the doorway. The impact forced Lin Xia to stumble back several steps.
“Are you okay?” Tang Yinlang hurriedly set down the food tray to check on him.
“I’m fine…?! Yinlang!” Lin Xia looked up and saw Tang Yinlangās familiar face.
“You changed back?” Ignoring the pain, Lin Xia asked with joy.
“Mn, I changed back,” Tang Yinlang nodded and replied calmly, just like before.
“It’s good that you’re back.” Lin Xia couldn’t help the corners of his mouth lifting. Tang Yinlangās accident had a silver lining; hitting his head on the slide had restored him.
“I’m sorry for making you and An An worry,” Tang Yinlang said, pulling Lin Xia into a hug. He greedily inhaled the scent of Lin Xia’s hair, wanting to melt the man right into his embrace.
“It’s okay.” Although they had been worried, the Big Dumpling form had given them a lot of joy too, which was enough for Lin Xia. “By the way, do you remember what happened these past few days?”
Lin Xia was worried Tang Yinlang might have forgotten the events during his amnesia after recovering. He liked the human Tang Yinlang, but he also liked the adorably foolish Big Dumpling.
“…I remember.” Thinking of those embarrassing moments, Tang Yinlang didn’t really want to admit he remembered. If only those memories could be erased!
“Let’s eat first.” Seeing Lin Xia wanting to say more, Tang Yinlang quickly changed the subject and called him for breakfast.
After leaving the ward earlier, he had gone to find a nurse to get a set of hospital scrubs; otherwise, shifting into a human would have meant streaking. After changing into human form and dressing, Tang Yinlang had stopped by the hospital cafeteria to pick up breakfast.
“I’m going to wash up first.” Lin Xia hadn’t brushed his teeth yet, so he pulled away from Tang Yinlangās embrace and went to the bathroom.
The VIP ward was equipped with a private bathroom and disposable toiletries, which was very convenient for Lin Xia.
“I haven’t brushed either. Let’s go together.” Tang Yinlang took Lin Xia’s hand.
“Okay,” Lin Xia nodded.
The two went to the bathroom to brush their teeth together. Tang Yinlang squeezed the toothpaste for Lin Xia. The tea-scented toothpaste was refreshing; just smelling it improved one’s mood.
“You need to shave,” Lin Xia noted, glancing at the stubble on Tang Yinlangās chin. He couldn’t resist reaching out to touch itāit was hard and prickly.
“I’ll shave when we get back,” Tang Yinlang said simply.
“If you shave it off, will your whiskers in animal form disappear?” Lin Xia wondered. The big white tiger had whiskers; surely shaving his human beard wouldn’t make his tiger whiskers vanish?
“No. Animal form is animal form; human form is human form. The animal whiskers are here, while the human beard is on the chin.” Tang Yinlang explained seriously.
“That’s good.” Lin Xia was relieved to hear that. Otherwise, it would be incredibly weird if Tang Yinlang turned back into a big white tiger but had no whiskers!
After brushing their teeth, Lin Xia and Tang Yinlang returned to the main room. The White Dumpling hadn’t woken up yet, so the two ate breakfast first, planning to get his portion once he was up.
The White Dumpling had cried for a long time yesterday and gone to sleep very late. He only woke up in a daze after Tang Yinlang returned from his follow-up checkup.
“Aowu?” The White Dumpling rubbed his eyes with his paws, looking confused.
“Baby, Daddy is here.” Lin Xia went over and picked him up.
“Aowu…” Good morning Daddy, where is Uncle Tang… The White Dumpling was still sleepy, burying his face in Lin Xia’s chest, unwilling to open his eyes.
“An An, Daddy is here.” Tang Yinlang stroked the White Dumpling’s head with his large, warm hand.
“Aowu!” Daddy!
Hearing Tang Yinlangās voice, the Big Dumpling bounced up like a rubber ball, looking at Tang Yinlang with surprise. His bright, sparkling eyes showed no trace that they had been shut tight just a second ago.
“Good boy!” Tang Yinlangās heart bloomed with joy at being called “Daddy” by the White Dumpling. It felt as if countless flowers were blossoming in his heartāa feeling of spring warmth.
“Aowu!” Daddy, you can turn back into a human! The White Dumpling jumped into Tang Yinlangās arms, nuzzling him affectionately.
“Daddy is back, so I can lift An An up high.” After speaking, Tang Yinlang lifted the White Dumpling high into the air.
“Aowu!” The White Dumpling squealed with excitement as father and son played “up high.”
“Stop playing for now, let’s wait until Baby eats breakfast.” Lin Xia felt bad seeing the White Dumpling’s deflated belly.
As if to respond to Lin Xiaās words, the White Dumplingās stomach let out a gurgle.
“My negligence.” Tang Yinlang put the White Dumpling down and handed him to Lin Xia. He told Lin Xia to take the dumpling to wash up while he went to the cafeteria to get breakfast for him.
“Aowu!” Time for breakfast!
By the time the White Dumpling had brushed his teeth and washed his face, Tang Yinlang had returned with his food.
Lin Xia and Tang Yinlang chatted while watching the White Dumpling eat. Since Tang Yinlangās memory loss, there were still many things they hadn’t cleared up.
“I’m sorry. I hid the fact that I was An An’s biological father before,” Tang Yinlang apologized for keeping it from Lin Xia.
“It’s nothing. I hid Baby’s identity from you too.” Lin Xia had already made peace with it. Their mutual secrecy was only because they were afraid of losing each other. From another perspective, it showed they both cherished one another. “Besides, before you went back to the capital, I had already guessed your identity.”
“Really?” Tang Yinlang was somewhat surprised. He thought he had hidden it well; he didn’t expect his cover had been blown long ago.
“You were good to me and Baby in such a natural way, without any pretense. I discovered it bit by bit.” A faint smile curved Lin Xia’s lips as scenes of Tang Yinlang interacting with them floated into his mind.
Tang Yinlang treated them wellāeffortlessly and matter-of-factly. He clearly understood the White Dumpling’s needs. If he weren’t of a non-human race, how could he understand what the White Dumpling was saying?
“But I’ve always had a question. What are your feelings for me?” Lin Xia could feel Tang Yinlang’s intense love, and he didn’t doubt his feelings. But he wanted to know why Tang Yinlang liked him, and what he liked about him…
“Two years ago, I fell in love with you at first sight. I can’t explain the feeling clearly; I just wanted to possess you completely, to make you a part of me. So, without permission, I selfishly did that to you. But I genuinely wanted to be with you, to make you my partner.”
Tang Yinlang paused, then continued, “That morning, I went to buy medicine for you. But when I came back, you were gone. I looked for you for over two years until I came to Jiang City and met you again.”
“You were looking for me all that time?” Lin Xia couldn’t believe someone would spend over two years searching for a one-night stand. Especially someone as outstanding as Tang Yinlangācountless men and women wanted to curry favor with him. He didn’t lack options, so why would he be hung up on a one-night fling?
“I was always looking for you. I firmly believed we would meet again.” Tang Yinlang looked resolute, his seriousness leaving no trace of deceit.
“What if you couldn’t find me?” Lin Xia felt grateful they had met again. The world is so big; once you miss someone, the chance of recovery is slim.
“If I couldn’t find you, I probably would have grown old alone.” Tang Yinlang had considered this painful question during the times he couldn’t find Lin Xia. But every time, his answer to himself was to keep persisting because he believed they would meet. Even after just one night, Tang Yinlang couldn’t forget Lin Xia. It had evolved from responsibility and liking into an obsession.
“You wouldn’t look for someone else?” Lin Xia felt a pang in his heart. If Tang Yinlang hadn’t found him, would he really have been lonely for so long? He believed Tang Yinlang’s words; Tang Yinlang was the type of person who did what he said.
“I wouldn’t look for anyone else. My body and heart belong to you alone; there will never be another.” It was like the saying goes: My heart is very small, it can only hold you. Tang Yinlang was the same; his heart only had room for Lin Xia.
“I’m holding you to that. If you dare go looking for someone else in the future, hmph!” Lin Xia was moved to a mess inside, but maintaining his reason, he threatened Tang Yinlang with a “fierce” tone.
“I won’t look for anyone else! I swear in the name of a Son of the Tang Family. I, Tang Yinlang, will never fail Lin Xia in this life. If I violate this oath, may I be damned beyond redemption!”
The most solemn oath for the non-human races was to swear as a member of their family. Violating such an oath could result in losing the family’s recognition and protection.
“Why are you so harsh on yourself!” Lin Xia was startled by Tang Yinlang’s words. He was only joking; he didn’t expect Tang Yinlang to take it seriously and swear such a toxic oath. “Take it back, quick!”
“I can’t take it back. Therefore, in this life, I can only be with you.” Tang Yinlang took Lin Xia’s hand, kissing the back of it, his eyes filled with obsession and devotion.
“Okay.” Lin Xia couldn’t hold back anymore. he actively embraced Tang Yinlang, responding softly but earnestly…
Author’s Note: White Dumpling: “Aowu! Please pay attention, there is still an underage little tiger nearby…”
