Chapter 65: I Have a Little Donkey

In the early morning, sunlight poured in through the curtains, casting a beam of light into the room and instantly brightening the entire space.

Tang Yinlang’s eyelids twitched. He opened his eyes, turned his head, and gazed at the sleeping faces of Lin Xia and the White Dumpling. A faint curve lifted the corner of his usually stoic mouth.

Lin Xia’s eyelashes were very long—longer and thicker than even a girl’s, without any need for enhancement. The sunlight hit his long, dense lashes, casting tiny shadows beneath his eyes.

Unknowingly, the White Dumpling had changed his sleeping position. Yesterday he was lying on his side; now he was sprawled on his stomach. He nestled quietly beside Lin Xia, his little pink nose twitching occasionally, as if dreaming of delicious food.

Tang Yinlang chuckled softly. He got up, tucked the quilt around the big one and the small one, and left the bedroom with light steps.

Downstairs, Tang Yinlang went to the bathroom to wash up and shave. Lin Xia had “complained” that his beard was getting too long and felt prickly to the touch.

After shaving, Tang Yinlang admired his clean-shaven face in the mirror with satisfaction, then put in his colored contact lenses. Once in place, his blue eyes turned black, making him look like a pure-blooded Chinese local.

The mystery of why Tang Yinlang’s eye color differed from the White Dumpling’s had been solved the night the Big White Tiger arrived. You Hai had told Lin Xia that Tang Yinlang’s eyes were actually blue. However, since he wore colored contacts, they usually appeared black.

There was a reason for this. Because of his blue eyes, people had constantly asked him growing up if he was mixed-race. Tang Yinlang found it annoying, so he simply started wearing contacts.

The contacts gave him the peace and quiet he wanted, so he had worn them ever since.

After puttering around in the bathroom for a while, Tang Yinlang went to the kitchen. He took tomatoes and eggs from the refrigerator, planning to make tomato and egg noodles.

The recipe for tomato and egg noodles was simple enough that even Tang Yinlang, who had little cooking experience, could manage it. As for the taste… Tang Yinlang didn’t know either.

Washing the pot, filling it with water, turning on the stove, cutting tomatoes… Tang Yinlang looked quite capable. After slicing the tomatoes, he sat aside and waited for the water to boil.

He browsed the news on his phone for a bit until he heard the sound of boiling water. Lifting the lid, a burst of hot steam rushed out, and bubbles gurgled in the pot.

Tang Yinlang, expressionless, dumped the tomatoes and noodles into the water, cracked three eggs in, and put the lid back on, waiting for the noodles to cook.

The Little Hamster had stayed overnight at Chen Mingzong’s house last night and hadn’t returned, so there was no need to make breakfast for him.

By the time Lin Xia woke up, the spot beside him was already cold. It seemed Tang Yinlang had been up for a while. A glance at the clock confirmed it wasn’t early.

Lin Xia woke the White Dumpling and carried the sleepy-eyed little tiger down to wash up. When they came out, he was pleasantly surprised to find that Tang Yinlang had made breakfast.

“I made tomato and egg noodles.” Tang Yinlang helped them get bowls and chopsticks, eager for Lin Xia and the others to taste his handiwork.

“Looks good. I’ll have to taste this properly,” Lin Xia praised with smiling eyes. He was looking forward to noodles made personally by Tang Yinlang.

“It’s nothing.” Tang Yinlang’s expression remained normal, revealing no obvious delight. In reality, if he were in his animal form, his tail would probably be wagging up to the sky.

In Lin Xia’s imagination, tomato and egg noodles meant stir-fried tomatoes and eggs poured over noodles. But what was in the bowl before him? There were tomatoes, and there were eggs, but they had all been boiled directly, not stir-fried.

“…” I overestimated him. Lin Xia controlled the twitch at the corner of his mouth, pretended nothing was amiss, picked up his chopsticks, and tasted it under Tang Yinlang’s expectant gaze.

“Mn, tastes good.” Lin Xia nodded and gave a thumbs up. Not bad; better than he expected.

This time, Tang Yinlang didn’t restrain his expression. The corners of his mouth curved up much higher than usual.

“Aowu!” An An wants to eat Papi’s noodles too! From his chair, the White Dumpling hooked a paw toward the food, eager to know how Papi’s cooking tasted.

“Don’t rush.” Lin Xia picked up a large chopstick-full of noodles, blew on them until cool, and then fed the White Dumpling.

“Ah-woo!” The White Dumpling opened his big mouth wide and chomped down on the noodles.

“Aowu!” Yummy! The White Dumpling applauded with his paws, his head bobbing up and down adorably.

After the family finished breakfast and cleaned up, they drove off to the countryside market.

Driving from their place to Biantang Township took two and a half hours. Aside from traffic in the city center, the roads were much clearer once they reached the suburbs, making for a smooth journey.

“Aowu!” Daddy, Papi, it’s an excavator! An An sees an excavator! The White Dumpling was practically plastered against the car window, exclaiming at an excavator working nearby.

“Aowu!” Which school is strong in excavator technology? Look for Lanxiang in Huaguo’s S Province! The White Dumpling had watched too many commercials and was completely brainwashed.

“Does Baby want to drive an excavator when he grows up?” Lin Xia smiled and asked.

“Aowu!” Daddy, An An won’t drive an excavator when he grows up. An An wants to transform into an excavator! The White Dumpling flicked his tail as he answered. As he spoke, his gaze was captured by a passing big truck, his eyes glued to it.

“Aowu!” An An wants to transform into a big truck!

“…” Tang Yinlang, who was about to ask why the White Dumpling wanted to become an excavator, swallowed his words. He was startled by the little tiger cub’s fickleness.

an hour and a half later, they arrived in the suburbs and entered the rural area.

There were far fewer cars in the countryside. Spacious roads were mostly occupied by buses and trucks, with very few private cars.

Further down was their destination, though it was still an hour’s drive away.

The scenery along the way changed from skyscrapers to mountains, forests, and people working in the fields.

The White Dumpling had long since whined about being tired, but he found everything along the way novel, even though it wasn’t his first time seeing these things.

“Aowu!” Daddy, Papi~ Look, it’s a little donkey! The White Dumpling twisted his head around and shouted excitedly.

His big blue eyes were filled with joy and surprise, his mouth grinning wide to reveal a pink tongue.

Following the White Dumpling’s gaze, they saw a grayish-brown little donkey swaying its head as it swaggered along the roadside.

“Aowu?” Little donkey, would you like to be friends with An An? The White Dumpling shouted through the window, even though the donkey couldn’t hear or understand him.

Lin Xia chuckled despite himself. He slowed the car down to give the White Dumpling more time to “communicate” with the donkey. Tang Yinlang took the opportunity to record a video of the White Dumpling and the little donkey with his phone.

“Aowu!” Goodbye, little donkey! They were heading in opposite directions, and soon the donkey would disappear from view. The White Dumpling waved his paw to say goodbye.

“I took a video of the little donkey for you. If you want to see him, it’s on the phone,” Tang Yinlang said softly, gently rubbing the White Dumpling’s head.

“Aowu!” Thank you, Papi! Now that the donkey was out of sight, the White Dumpling retreated and lay on Tang Yinlang’s lap. Tang Yinlang was in the passenger seat, and the White Dumpling sat with him on his lap.

“You’re welcome,” Tang Yinlang chuckled lightly.

An hour later, they arrived at the farmers’ market in Biantang Township, a market spontaneously formed by the villagers. Lin Xia skillfully drove the car to the front of a local house and asked them to watch the car.

Lin Xia parked here every time he visited. This family provided parking services for visitors—five yuan for large cars, park as long as you like.

After exchanging pleasantries with the owner and paying the fee, Lin Xia took Tang Yinlang and the White Dumpling to explore the market.

“Aowu!” Papi, An An has been here before… Having visited a few times, the White Dumpling began acting as a guide for Tang Yinlang.

Before they even got close, they could hear the bustling sounds of hawking and bargaining; it was extraordinarily lively.

“Radishes here! Eighty cents a jin! Big and crisp!”

Entering the market, the first stall was selling white radishes. They weren’t as straight as the ones in the city, but each one looked fresh and juicy, pleasing to the eye.

“Let’s buy some radishes to pickle later.” Seeing the white radishes, Lin Xia immediately thought of sour and spicy pickled radishes—delicious as a snack or a side dish for porridge and noodles.

However, Lin Xia didn’t plan to buy anything just yet. He wanted to walk to the end of the street and buy things on the way back. If he started buying from the entrance, he’d have to carry everything the whole way.

Lin Xia and his family strolled to the end of the street, occasionally asking for prices and noting them down to buy later.

“Big Sister, how much are the mushrooms?” Lin Xia set his sights on a basket of straw mushrooms held by a woman.

“Young man has a good eye! I grew these straw mushrooms myself; they make delicious soup!” The woman laughed heartily, praising her mushrooms. “Tell you what, since you’re handsome, I’ll sell them to you cheap—seven yuan a jin.”

The woman’s voice was loud and full of energy. Her “flirting” with Lin Xia caused a burst of laughter from the people around them.

“Oh, you, Da Hua! I’ve been selling winter melons next to you for years, but I’ve never seen you give me a discount on your mushrooms. Now a handsome young man comes along and you drop the price immediately? Talk about valuing looks over friendship!” A man selling next to her pretended to be angry, successfully making everyone laugh again.

“You old man, you’re not handsome, why should I give you a discount!” The woman put her hands on her hips and roared back.

“You’re not exactly a beauty either; we’re a perfect match!” The man huffed and retorted.

Lin Xia, the young man who caused the “dispute,” wanted to intervene, but luckily he heard people around saying the two were husband and wife, just joking around.

Lin Xia quickly asked for three jin of straw mushrooms, paid the money, and slipped away immediately. He didn’t want to get involved in other people’s marital affairs.

“Was it like this before too?” Tang Yinlang, walking beside him while holding the White Dumpling, suddenly asked. His voice sounded a bit muffled.

“Hmm?” Lin Xia didn’t understand what he was asking.

“…People saying you’re good-looking, or chasing after you…” Tang Yinlang was drowning in a sea of jealousy, unable to extricate himself.

Lin Xia was so good-looking; surely many people liked him. Just thinking about it, Tang Yinlang couldn’t control his jealousy.

“Jealous?” Lin Xia covered his mouth to hide a smile, turning to look at Tang Yinlang’s expression.

“…” Tang Yinlang, having his thoughts exposed, didn’t want to speak.

“Yes, many people like me,” Lin Xia said openly. “However…”

“However what?” Tang Yinlang looked full of resentment.

“In the end, the one who got me is you…” Lin Xia stood on his tiptoes and whispered this into Tang Yinlang’s ear.

As he spoke, his breath gently brushed against Tang Yinlang’s ear, causing a shiver to run through Tang Yinlang’s body.
