Baozi Pet Shop Chapter 10

Chapter 10: The Little Hamster Gets Carried Away

After a day’s work, Lin Xia took Bai Tuanzi and the little hamster home. He bought a lot of groceries, wanting to relieve his sadness by cooking.

“Xiaoxia, my brother said he’s coming to your place tonight,” Chen Mingjie called Lin Xia. “Let me tell you, my brother was acting weird today, it was scary!”

“Mingzong Ge is coming?” Lin Xia was also flustered. Although he often gloated, he was actually a little afraid of Chen Mingzong. Chen Mingzong was extremely serious, and Lin Xia felt very uncomfortable around him.

Learning that Chen Mingzong was coming, Lin Xia forgot his sadness and did his best to prepare a table full of dishes, fearing that the gentleman wouldn’t be satisfied.

8 PM sharp.

“Knock knock!” A precise and rhythmic knock on the door.

“Coming!” Lin Xia opened the door.

Chen Mingzong was in front, carrying three bags of gifts. Chen Mingjie followed behind him, looking like a meek wife.

“Gifts.” Chen Mingzong said flatly.

“You’re too generous, but thank you anyway.” Lin Xia accepted one of the gifts, as Chen Mingzong only offered him one.

Chen Mingzong changed his shoes and strode inside.

“What’s going on?” Lin Xia quietly asked Chen Mingjie.

“I don’t know either. He borrowed my phone today, and then he insisted that we come to your place for dinner,” Chen Mingjie helplessly spread his hands. “And he didn’t nag me today; I’m not used to it.”

Chen Mingzong, who was being discussed, walked into the living room and saw Bai Tuanzi and the little hamster.

He gave one of the gifts to Bai Tuanzi, “An’an, this is a gift from Uncle.”

Chen Mingzong knew Bai Tuanzi’s identity, so he treated him like a normal child.

“Awoo!” Thank you, Uncle Mingzong! Bai Tuanzi accepted the gift. Dad said that any gift from Uncle Mingzong must be accepted, otherwise, Uncle would be unhappy.

To prevent Uncle Mingzong from being unhappy, Bai Tuanzi declared he would definitely accept the gift!

After giving Bai Tuanzi the gift, Chen Mingzong came to the little hamster.

“Hello, my name is Chen Mingzong, I’m 28 years old, 186 cm tall, 75 kg…this is a gift for you, please accept it!”

The little hamster looked at the tall, straight-backed man in front of him with a confused expression. What was he saying?

Stared at by the little hamster’s dazed and innocent eyes, Chen Mingzong stood even straighter. This was a sign of his nervousness; if you looked closely, you could see that Chen Mingzong’s ears were slightly reddened.

“Awoo.” Little Hamster brother, Uncle Mingzong gave you a gift, quickly accept it. Bai Tuanzi translated for the little hamster, even though the little hamster didn’t understand either.

“Tha…thank…you…” Prompted by Bai Tuanzi’s actions, the little hamster accepted Chen Mingzong’s gift. He didn’t actually know what the gift was; Bai Tuanzi told him to take it, so he did.

But Chen Mingzong, who had his gift accepted by the person he liked, wasn’t happy at all because, as a top psychiatrist in China, his keen professional intuition told him: the person he liked was mentally unwell!

In an instant, Chen Mingzong’s heart was filled with an emotion called heartache.

The little hamster curiously looked at the man who wouldn’t move his feet. Why did he keep looking at me? Does he want to eat me?

“Dinner’s ready!” Lin Xia and Chen Mingjie came from the entrance, breaking the “intense gaze” between Chen Mingzong and the little hamster.

“Din…ner…is…ready…” The little hamster was the first to end this inexplicable staring contest; he happily ran to the table and sat down.

Chen Mingzong felt displeased; the pressure around him dropped a few points. He didn’t sit in the seat Lin Xia had specially arranged for him, but instead squeezed in between Lin Xia and the little hamster.

“…” Everyone ate in silence. Lin Xia served Bai Tuanzi and the little hamster, but he noticed that the little hamster’s bowl was already full of food, and Chen Mingzong kept adding more with his chopsticks.

Seeing this, Lin Xia silently retracted his chopsticks and turned to Chen Mingjie’s bowl.

“Xiaoxia, I don’t like duck meat.” Chen Mingjie, who was gnawing on a pork rib, inexplicably had a piece of duck meat in his bowl—a piece that Lin Xia, who knew his tastes, had served him.

“Oh really? I forgot, ha…” The atmosphere at the table was extremely awkward.

After dinner, Chen Mingzong said to Chen Mingjie, “You clean up; I have something to talk to Lin Xia about.”

At Chen Mingzong’s gesture, Lin Xia followed him to the balcony.

Chen Mingzong was a direct person; once they were standing, he asked, “What’s that boy’s name? What’s your relationship?”

Chen Mingzong came to Lin Xia’s house today because of the little hamster. His phone had died, so he borrowed Chen Mingjie’s phone to make a call. When he got the phone, Chen Mingzong was captivated by the phone’s screen.

Chen Mingjie’s phone wallpaper was a handsome boy holding a chicken leg, his eyes narrowed into lovely crescent shapes, his whole being exuding happiness.

Chen Mingzong found his heart racing and his ears reddening. He, who had been single since birth, didn’t know what the reason was, but he knew he was falling for this boy.

Chen Mingzong tried to use his strong professional knowledge to analyze it. What had triggered his nerves, giving his brain a feeling of excitement and happiness? Chen Mingzong thought of hormones again—why did his hormones surge when he saw the boy? Perhaps it had something to do with dopamine—the rapid secretion of dopamine making him excited?

Finally, Chen Mingzong came to a conclusion: it was love at first sight. This couldn’t be explained by his knowledge; this was the charm of love—love is something that science cannot explain.

Having figured this out, Chen Mingzong started searching for the original picture of the boy on his brother’s phone. He was surprised to find that the boy’s photo wasn’t downloaded from the internet by Chen Mingjie, but was taken a week ago at Lin Xia’s house!

Chen Mingzong covered his rapidly beating heart. After calming down, he subtly encouraged Chen Mingjie to visit Lin Xia’s house, all for the sake of seeing that cute boy.

“His name is Little Hamster. He lived a wandering life before, and now I’ve taken him in,” Lin Xia replied. “Mingzong Ge, why are you asking this?”

“A wandering life means…” The thought of such a frail boy wandering alone broke Chen Mingzong’s heart.

“Tell me everything you know.” Chen Mingzong was eager to learn everything about the little hamster.

“If you’re serious, I can tell you…” Lin Xia roughly guessed Chen Mingzong’s intentions. After considering for a while, Lin Xia decided to tell Chen Mingzong everything. Lin Xia felt that Chen Mingzong was a serious person, and if he truly liked the little hamster, Lin Xia wouldn’t mind him pursuing him.

Lin Xia wasn’t sure how long he could protect the little hamster. The best outcome would be for the little hamster to find someone who loved him, and Chen Mingzong seemed like a good candidate.

Of course, Lin Xia wouldn’t force the little hamster to accept Chen Mingzong; even if the little hamster had mental problems, he would respect his decision.

“I’m serious!” Chen Mingzong’s words, like the man himself, were trustworthy. His gaze was firm and unwavering, showing that he wasn’t joking. He wasn’t surprised that Lin Xia saw through him, because from the beginning, he hadn’t hidden his feelings for the little hamster. “I will respect Little Hamster’s choice, I won’t force him!”

With Chen Mingzong’s promise, Lin Xia felt relieved. He trusted Chen Mingzong, and if the two of them could be together, it would be a happy ending for everyone.

“That’s about it,” Lin Xia finished, feeling angry and heartbroken again over the little hamster’s experiences.

Chen Mingzong was silent for a long time, then finally said, “From now on, I will be Little Hamster’s therapist.”

Chen Mingzong, as one of the most promising young doctors in China’s mental health field, had a long waiting list. But this time, he volunteered to treat the little hamster. This wasn’t because he pitied the little hamster, but because he felt sorry for him. Chen Mingzong had hopes that if the little hamster was cured, the intelligent, dream-filled boy of the past would return.

He couldn’t participate in the little hamster’s past, but in the future, he would make the little hamster’s life better.

“Little Hamster is in your care,” Lin Xia didn’t refuse; it was beneficial to the little hamster, and he trusted Chen Mingzong’s ability and character.

After a long conversation, the two returned to the living room, where Chen Mingjie, assigned to wash the dishes, looked at them resentfully. Hmph! Not only did these two leave him to wash the dishes alone, they also kept things from him.

“Mingjie, we should go back.” In front of Chen Mingjie, Chen Mingzong was still the strict elder brother.

“I know.” Chen Mingjie replied listlessly.

“I’m going now, see you tomorrow.” Chen Mingzong said to the little hamster. Unlike his strict demeanor towards Chen Mingjie, his eyes were gentle, almost to the point of dripping when facing the little hamster.

“See…you…again…” The little hamster politely said goodbye.

After the brothers left, Lin Xia, Bai Tuanzi, and the little hamster began to open Chen Mingzong’s gifts.

“Awoo!” Transformers! Bai Tuanzi happily played with it.

“Mine is a book.” Chen Mingzong gave Lin Xia “Designing Poems.”

“Awoo?” Little Hamster brother, quickly see what yours is? Only the little hamster’s gift remained unopened.

“It’s…a…what…” The little hamster opened the box and took out a scarf.

“A cute scarf.” Chen Mingzong gave the little hamster a scarf with animal patterns. This scarf was obviously expensive, and it would be warm and comfortable to wear.

“Scarves are worn around the neck to keep warm. Let me help you put it on,” Lin Xia helped the little hamster put on the scarf. “It looks very nice.”

It must be said that although Chen Mingzong was serious and rigid, his aesthetic sense was still quite good; at least the scarf he gave the little hamster suited him very well.

“Li…ke…” The little hamster liked the scarf Chen Mingzong gave him very much.
