Chapter 45: What Are You Doing?
Zhao Chuan was clad in a layer of sheer green gauze. Set against the backdrop of pink peach blossoms, his figure appeared indistinct yet undeniably eye-catching. He truly embodied the saying, “wandering through a cluster of flowers without a single leaf clinging to oneself”. A man capable of wearing sheer green fabric with a seductiveness usually reserved for womenâZhao Chuan was likely the first of his kind in the Phoenix Clan.
“I heard Consort Yao is the Fourth Young Master of the Wolf Clan?”
Zhao Chuanâs gaze swept up and down Yao Guang with unconcealed contempt.
He didn’t look like much. Just a sickly invalid.
How could the Wolf Clan choose such a sick jar for a marriage alliance? Aren’t they afraid of offending Li Xuanyue with such bad luck?
“Who are you?”
He Zhao, the confidant standing beside Yao Guang, spoke up.
For someone to approach them solely to pick a fight when they didn’t even know each other, He Zhao concluded the man must be mentally deranged.
Zhao Chuan frowned. Seeing that Yao Guang didn’t answer him personally but let a subordinate speak instead, he felt extremely dissatisfied.
“When masters are speaking, what place does a servant have to interrupt?”
Zhao Chuan scolded angrily, “Consort Yao really doesn’t know how to manage his people”.
Only then did Yao Guangâs grayish-brown gaze slowly settle on Zhao Chuanâs face.
“Is Consort Zhao trying to teach this Prince how to handle his affairs?”
His cool voice carried a faint trace of oppression.
Surprise flashed in Zhao Chuanâs dark eyes. “You know who I am?”
Then why did his servant ask who I was just now? Was he deliberately playing me?
A look of understanding crossed Yao Guangâs handsome wolf eyes. He continued to stare at Zhao Chuan, neither humble nor arrogant.
“Earlier, Princess Xuanyue dismissed many consorts and attendants in front of everyone. Only the consorts from the five clans, along with two others surnamed Wen and Zhao, remained”.
“Unsurprisingly, Consort Wen was expelled from the Phoenix Clan by the Princess a while ago for committing an offense. As for the one remaining… that would naturally be this Consort Zhao”.
As Yao Guang spoke, his narrow phoenix eyes didn’t forget to size up Zhao Chuan.
His brows knit together tightly.
Yao Guang couldn’t quite agree with the fashion sense of the consorts around Li Xuanyue. He could only try his best to ignore it, pretending he didn’t see anything.
“Just now, seeing your seductive attire and the attendant following you, I guessed you must be the Consort Zhao who remained in the Phoenix Clan”.
Zhao Chuan looked proud and smug.
“Since you know who I am, I won’t beat around the bush with you”.
He decided to speak plainly. “You cannot enter this pavilion!”
“On what grounds?”
He Zhao stepped forward indignantly to defend Yao Guang. “This pavilion doesn’t belong to you alone. Why can’t my Young Master enter?”
“Aren’t you being a bit too unreasonable?”
Did he think that just because his Young Master was frail, he could be bullied at will? He didn’t ask if He Zhao’s fists agreed with that.
Zhao Chuan furrowed his brows. “Consort Yao, what is wrong with this servant of yours?”
He spoke aggressively to Yao Guang. “The master hasn’t even opened his mouth, yet he seems more anxious than you”.
“Does he want to replace you completely?”
“And then take care of Princess Xuanyue himself?”
“With his looks, do you think he can pull it off?”
Zhao Chuan looked He Zhao up and down, the disdain in his eyes clearly visible.
“Don’t go scaring the Princess to death before you even climb into her bed. Hmph!”
Zhao Chuanâs words were as infuriating as they could possibly be.
It was as if He Zhao were nothing but trash.
He Zhao was nearly choked with rage by Zhao Chuanâs words.
“You!”
If Yao Guang hadn’t spoken up in time, He Zhao might have already struck this loud-mouthed Consort Zhao.
“Consort Zhao, mind your words”.
Yao Guangâs eyes grew colder. Although his face was still pale and sickly, his tone was heavier than before.
“Princess Xuanyue has a body of a thousand gold. Is she someone a lowly consort like you can arrange and discuss at will?”
Yao Guang meant this as a well-intentioned warning.
He had already spotted the pink, peach-blossom-like figure standing not far away.
Presumably, it wouldn’t be long before she stepped out.
Unfortunately, Zhao Chuan didn’t appreciate Yao Guangâs kindness at all. Instead of restraining himself, he became even more arrogant.
“Oh, Consort Yao really knows how to be considerate”.
Zhao Chuan sneered with contempt. “It’s a pity the Princess isn’t here, so she can’t see your display of loyalty”.
Yao Guang didn’t like casting pearls before swine. Since the other party was ungrateful, there was no need to continue this standoff with Zhao Chuan.
“What are you doing?”
The smile on Zhao Chuanâs face froze as Yao Guang approached.
He had already made himself clear earlier.
He had claimed this pavilion.
Yet this man was still walking forward. Was he disregarding his words?
Yao Guang stared at Zhao Chuan with a cold gaze. “Consort Zhao doesn’t think this pavilion belongs to you alone, do you?”
His deep voice carried a chill, pushing people a thousand miles away.
Plus, he was a few centimeters taller than Zhao Chuan, so when he lifted his chin to speak seriously, it felt like he was looking down on him.
“Move aside!”
Shame and anger flashed across Zhao Chuanâs face. “You… how dare you speak to me like that?”
His finger, pointing out, trembled in the air due to rage over Yao Guang’s words.
“I am the Princess’s Consort. Even if… you are also the Princess’s Consort now, so what? I entered the Phoenix Clan before you”.
“It’s fine if you don’t respectfully call me ‘Brother,’ but you dare speak to me in such a tone?”
“You are simply audacious!”
Zhao Chuan was acting like a madman.
Yao Guang ignored his words and continued to walk forward.
In his view, this Consort Zhao had brain problems.
Wearing revealing clothes aside, his way of speaking was sarcastic and strange. It was truly hard to accept.
Zhao Chuan revealed a fierce glare.
Seeing Yao Guang disregard him so completely, he shook with anger.
He had never encountered a consort in the Phoenix Clan who didn’t take him seriously.
Yao Guang was the first.
He felt his authority was being challenged.
“Hey, what are you doing?”
“Young Master!”
Just as He Zhao turned to follow, Zhao Chuan suddenly rushed forward and shoved Yao Guang.
Splash!
Because of that push, Yao Guang lost his balance and fell directly from the wooden deck into the lake.
The calm surface of the lake rippled violently as he plunged in.
He Zhao’s expression changed drastically. Without hesitation, he jumped in.
Moments later, he pulled the drowning Yao Guang to shore.
“Cough, cough!”
Cold lake water had filled his nose and mouth, causing Yao Guang to cough violently upon being rescued.
“Young Master, are you alright?”
He Zhao patted Yao Guang’s back while asking anxiously.
