Chapter 49: Pressuring for Heirs
“I’ll have the servants stew some chicken soup for you,” Li Qinghe said after setting down the fruit, turning to instruct the maid beside her. “Servants…”
“Don’t waste your effort!” Jun Mo’s tone was extremely displeased. It was clear he deeply resented Li Qinghe’s presumptuousness.
“If you have the guts, kill this prince right now. Otherwise, once I return, I will send someone to kill you.”
Jun Mo meant what he said. A ruthless determination burned in his beautiful phoenix eyes.
The smile on Li Qinghe’s face froze instantly.
It had been almost half a month since the incident between her and Jun Mo. Now, he was carrying her child. She had thought that even if he held a grudge, he would put the past behind him for the sake of the child and stay peacefully in the Phoenix Clan to give birth.
To her surprise, he still harbored intentions of returning to the Snake Clan, and his murderous intent towards her was only growing stronger.
Had her usual demeanor given him the false impression that she was too easy to get along with?
Li Qinghe’s dark brows furrowed.
“Since you don’t want to eat and intend to starve yourself to death, then you won’t have to eat anything in the days to come.”
She was determined to teach Jun Mo a lesson, to let him know that in the Phoenix Clan, no one besides her would pity or save him.
“Come find me when you’re ready to eat.” She threatened him viciously, “Otherwise, you can starve forever.”
Li Qinghe would never tolerate anyone around her harboring thoughts of harming her. Especially not Jun Mo.
Although she had initiated the scheme, she had already shown him various forms of tolerance and forbearance. How much further did he want her to retreat? Did he really want her dead before he would be satisfied?
Putting aside the fact that Li Qinghe would never put herself in danger, she certainly wouldn’t give up her life for a man.
If Jun Mo wanted to have a good life in the Phoenix Clan in the future, he had to learn to submit first. Otherwise, Li Qinghe couldn’t guarantee that she would continue to speak to him with such good temper in the days to come.
Since he had fallen into the Phoenix Clan, she had plenty of ways to deal with him in the future.
“Your Highness, why must you be like this?” The maid serving him watched Li Qinghe turn and leave with a dark expression, her eyes filled with unspeakable worry.
“You are already carrying Princess Qinghe’s child. Why must you hold onto past grievances and make yourself unhappy by being at odds with the Princess?”
“Just submit to Princess Qinghe. That way, your days in the Phoenix Clan won’t be so difficult.”
“Get out…”
Jun Mo couldn’t listen to a word the maid said, repeatedly roaring at her. In his eyes, this maid was no different from the secret guards Li Qinghe had sent to monitor him.
He was a man!
In the Snake Clan, such words were usually used to advise disobedient women. Now, the roles were reversed. To ask him to submit and bow his head to Li Qinghe like a woman was simply a pipe dream. Even if he starved to death, he would never agree.
Seeing this, the maid could only sigh and shake her head helplessly. Although she wasn’t the personal attendant of the Second Prince of the Snake Clan, since the Phoenix Empress had assigned her to serve him, she would fulfill her duties as a servant and consider his best interests. But seeing his rejection and resistance, she could only give up.
Although the news of Jun Mo’s pregnancy had spread throughout the Phoenix Clan, it cast a heavy shadow over Hua Shan’s heart.
The reason was simple: the Second Prince of the Snake Clan had been in the Phoenix Clan for barely half a month and was already carrying Li Qinghe’s child. Yet, Li Xuanyue’s five consorts had been in the Phoenix Clan for several months, and there was still no movement in their bellies.
As a father, Hua Shan was naturally worried.
For this reason, he sent people early in the morning to invite all five of Li Xuanyue’s consorts to Xihe Hall. He planned to use this matter to give them a good talking to. He couldn’t let them retreat because of this.
“You should all have heard the news that the Official Consort Princess Qinghe is about to marry is pregnant, right?”
Hua Shan casually glanced at the five consorts sitting in the hall. Without any unnecessary pleasantries, he went straight to the topic he had invited them to discuss today.
“You have been in the Phoenix Clan for some time now.” Hua Shan took a sip of tea from his cup, his gaze continuing to sweep across the faces of the five consorts. Seeing that they were neither happy nor sad, all maintaining a silent demeanor, he raised his sword-like eyebrows and said:
“This Empress Consort does not have high demands for you now. As long as you can live harmoniously and beautifully with Yue’er in the future and give birth to your own children, this Empress Consort will be satisfied.”
“Now that several months have passed, shouldn’t you also hurry up for the sake of children?”
Hua Shan didn’t like his daughter’s harem to be piled up with consorts who occupied the position but didn’t produce heirs, hindering the development of offspring. Of course, as her father, he couldn’t allow such a thing to happen. So it was better to give them a preventive shot early on to avoid unnecessary incidents later.
The five consorts sitting in the hall looked at each other and remained silent.
Among the five of them, except for Jun He who had been intimate with Li Xuanyue during his heat, the others hadn’t even touched Li Xuanyue’s hand. How could they have children?
Secondly, they were all men. To ask them to wander around the Phoenix Clan with big bellies like Jun Mo… just thinking about that scene was somewhat unacceptable to them. Their relationship with Li Xuanyue hadn’t reached the point where they would sacrifice themselves for her.
Seeing that they didn’t speak, Hua Shan knew that they might find it hard to accept for a while. So he turned his gaze to Jun He, who was sitting at the very end.
He was the first person to have a relationship with Li Xuanyue. Hua Shan naturally had to give him some special attention.
“Jun He, as the Third Prince of the Snake Clan, what happened between you and Yue’er serves as a very good example for the other consorts.”
Hua Shan spoke without any reservation, almost holding a loudspeaker in front of Lang Hua and the others to tell them to learn from Jun He. This made Lang Hua and the others feel incredibly awkward!
Yet Hua Shan showed no sign of stopping, continuing solemnly: “You must not disappoint this Empress Consort.”
Hua Shan looked at Jun He meaningfully, “This Empress Consort hopes that the first little royal grandson of the Phoenix Clan will come from you.”
From these words, one could see how much Hua Shan valued Jun He.
Jun He was startled at first, then a stiff flush appeared on his fair face. “Yes!”
He replied in a low voice, not refuting Hua Shan’s words. Even though he didn’t intend to have a big belly like Jun Mo, since he had been intimate with Li Xuanyue, they naturally wanted children. As for whose belly the child would come from, that wasn’t for Hua Shan to decide. In any case, they would all be his grandsons.
The news of Hua Shan summoning the five consorts to speak at Xihe Hall naturally reached Li Xuanyue’s ears through Yinxin.
“Why is Father Consort summoning them at this time?” Li Xuanyue hesitated with the pastry in her hand.
Could something big have happened? She was puzzled.
“No, this Princess has to go see.” She put down the pastry, clapped her hands, and stood up to leave.
