Chapter 97 (Partial): Yumian Plans to Sing a Song to Thank You
“Not bad.”
Hua Shanâs brows were gentle as he lightly stroked Li Xuanyueâs hair, praising her with genuine sincerity.
“The Beggarâs Chicken you roasted was full of juice, tender, and rich. How is it I’ve never heard before that you knew how to make this?”
Hua Shanâs greatest understanding of his daughter was that she liked to throw tantrums and beat people. Making Beggarâs Chicken was truly a first.
So when the maid delivered the chicken she made, his eyes had held disbelief. He felt his daughter seemed different somehow. She seemed to have become sensible and capable of pleasing people.
Facing Hua Shanâs scrutiny and probing, Li Xuanyue only responded with a faint smile.
“Did Father Monarch like it?”
She avoided the heavy and dwelled on the light. Obviously, she didn’t want to tell Hua Shan about her rebirth. It was too bizarre; she feared if he knew, heâd think she was possessed. Saying nothing was best.
Hua Shan saw she didn’t explain and didn’t press her.
“I liked it!”
He nodded, answering with those two simple words.
Li Xuanyueâs every move and her changes were silently observed by Hua Shan. Although he didn’t often visit places like the Phoenix Harmony Palace, subordinates would intentionally or unintentionally inform him of what happened around her.
Thus, he was delighted by these many changes. This was how the little princess he pampered in his palm should be. Acting with propriety, yet not causing resentment.
To the side, Langhua watched the father and daughter chat with relish. As the surplus person, he could only silently sit aside, drinking the tea poured by the maid.
He couldn’t help it. He was only here to make up the numbers. And incidentally, to look at this Phoenix Lord Consort. He wanted to confirm if what he saw that day was real.
His gaze, inadvertently drifting toward the screen in the Xihe Palace, naturally didn’t escape Hua Shanâs cold phoenix eyes.
Hua Shanâs eyes darkened, losing the look of laughter he had while speaking with Li Xuanyue. Instead, he looked indifferently at Langhua sitting below.
“Yue-er, Father Monarch has some words I wish to discuss alone with your Consort Lang.”
Hua Shan held Li Xuanyueâs hand and spoke softly, “I wonder if you would mind?”
Langhuaâs heart skipped a beat.
When he looked back and met Hua Shanâs cold eyes, a chill ran down his spine. Suddenly, the tea in his hand didn’t smell so fragrant.
Hua Shan wanted to talk about what he saw in the Xihe Palace that day. Or perhaps tell him to shut his mouth? Either way, Langhua felt extremely uneasy at this moment.
Li Xuanyue froze, clearly not expecting things to turn out like this.
She hadn’t failed to notice Hua Shanâs attitude toward Langhua. From the moment he entered the Xihe Palace with her, Hua Shan hadn’t looked at Langhua directly. Even when Langhua greeted him, Hua Shan had an expression of indifference, only responding perfunctorily for her sake.
Now he wanted to keep Langhua alone for a talk? How could Li Xuanyue not be surprised? Since when did the relationship between Hua Shan and Langhua become so familiar?
“What do you think?”
Li Xuanyue didn’t answer Hua Shan immediately but handed the choice directly to Langhua. He was the one Hua Shan wanted to talk to. She didn’t seem to have the right to make the decision to leave him alone for him.
Hua Shanâs eyes decisively turned to Langhua. He wanted to hear how he would answer.
Langhua was stunned; he hadn’t expected Li Xuanyue to ask for his opinion.
As his steady eyes met Hua Shanâs deep, pitch-black gaze, his initial intention was to refuse. But after a thought, he swallowed the words on the tip of his tongue and changed his rhetoric.
“Then let us follow Father Monarchâs arrangement.”
Langhua set the tea aside, adopting a relaxed, indifferent posture.
He could see that even if he refused Hua Shan today, Hua Shan would find various excuses to invite him to meet alone later. Rather than letting him spend so much effort, it was better to agree now.
Since Li Xuanyue was here, for her sake, presumably, he wouldn’t do anything too ruthless. But in the future… that was hard to say.
“Father Monarch, then this child will take her leave first.”
Li Xuanyue stood up. Although she didn’t know what Hua Shan would talk about with Langhua, since they had matters to discuss, she wouldn’t linger.
Seeing her so sensible, Hua Shanâs eyes filled with relief. “Go on.”
After leaving Xihe Palace, Li Xuanyue took Yin Xin straight back to the Phoenix Harmony Palace. Having tired herself out all day, she hadn’t rested properly yet.
She didn’t know what Hua Shan wanted to say to Langhua, but she had people watching in the dark. Presumably, nothing major would happen to him.
When Yin Xin stepped forward to massage her legs, she found Li Xuanyue was already asleep on the couch.
The next day, just as the sky brightened and Li Xuanyue finished breakfast, she received a message from a maid at Yumianâs side.
She said that to thank Li Xuanyue for the Beggarâs Chicken sent yesterday, Yumian intended to sing a song for her at the Twilight Palace at noon today and specifically invited her to listen.
It was said that the Fish Clanâs singing voice was melodious and moving. Li Xuanyue naturally had no reason to refuse such a good thing.
“Princess, are we still going to Consort Yaoâs side?”
Yin Xin asked with a faint smile, “After you rested yesterday, the Lord Consort had someone send Consort Lang back to Wolf Tooth Palace shortly after. This servant happened to hear from their subordinates that Consort Yao is unwell.”
Li Xuanyue frowned. “Has Divine Physician Liu gone to see him?”
Yin Xin nodded. “For such a major matter, naturally only Divine Physician Liu could resolve it personally. However, Consort Yaoâs body truly does not look very good.”
As for where Yin Xin heard this, it was naturally from the people she had arranged. As Li Xuanyueâs confidant maid, while she didn’t control many people, she could at least know the basic news.
“Princess, should we just tell the Phoenix Sovereign the truth?”
Yin Xin said seriously, “Otherwise, if he really has an accident in the Phoenix Clan, and it spreads, it might be very bad for you, Princess.”
The Wolf Clan really was something. Why send a sick invalid for a marriage alliance? And make their Princess rack her brains to cure him? How was this different from torturing their Princess?
