Chapter 35
Shen Xili opened his eyes. His dark pupils were already somewhat unfocused from the pain; he didn’t understand what Shen Shuyu meant.
Shen Shuyu took a deep breath, applied a little more force to the hand gripping Shen Xili, and shoved the nutrient solution into his mouth with the other.
Stamina draining? Coincidentally, nutrient solution was meant to rapidly replenish body energy.
As the nutrient solution went down, Shen Xili felt his stamina recovering, and the pain lessened slightly. He blinked lightly, looking at Shen Shuyu.
Shen Shuyu let go of him and turned to Lin Xuyi. “We must find the antidote for him. He Mingyue said it’s only three kilometers from here to the exit. I’ll go get it first; you guard him.”
The fog here was thin, and they could vaguely see the scene outside the forest. Lin Xuyi had also calmed down. He said, “I’ll run to get it. I’m an Alpha. Although I’m not as strong as them, I’m faster than you. You guard him.”
Shen Shuyu opened his mouth. He had intended to walk further away and have the System get the medicine for him, but Lin Xuyi offered to go himself.
That worked too. If he came back too early with the medicine, he’d have to invent a reason. After thinking, Shen Shuyu rummaged through his bag again and took out another nutrient solution. “Take this with you, just in case.”
Lin Xuyi looked at Shen Shuyu in surprise. Shen Shuyu wasn’t as brainless and difficult as the rumors said. Nutrient solution was a precious commodity in this Survival War; usually, everyone wanted to keep it for themselves. He was shocked when he saw Shen Shuyu shove it into Shen Xili’s mouth just now, not expecting him to be so generous. Now, he was giving one to him too.
He didn’t refuse. After accepting the nutrient solution, he said, “I’ll be back as soon as possible.”
After speaking, he glanced at the three people confronting the Red Ant and ran non-stop out of the forest.
Shen Xili leaned against the rock. With one nutrient solution down, his pain had eased a lot. Shen Shuyu dug through his bag again. Being cannon fodder was hard; now that things had calmed down, he still had to maintain his persona.
Shen Xili sighed heavily in his heart. He raised his head, looking completely displeased. He looked at Shen Shuyu, who was breathing heavily, and said impatiently, “Don’t think I don’t hate you just because I gave you a nutrient solution. I just don’t want Brother Yanxun to be annoyed. You have to pay me back when we get out.”
He took out another tube from his bag and threw it at him. “Drink it yourself. You’re so troublesome! I really don’t know why Brother Yanxun appreciates you so much. Is it because of your face? Do you know you’re dead weight right now!”
Because of the pain, Shen Xili’s face was still pale, but it didn’t affect his beauty at all. Looking at him, Shen Shuyu’s gaze involuntarily fell on his lips. Although his complexion was poor, his lips were full and red.
Shen Shuyu huffed and looked away.
Shen Xili kept watching him. Seeing him turn his head away, he looked at the nutrient solution in his hand. This brand had the best effect. He tightened his grip slightly and whispered, “Thank you.”
The answer he received was an even softer huff.
In the distance, Chi Yanxun and the other two were still anxiously struggling with the Mutant Red Ant. The few of them only had a small knife in Wen Jiafei’s hand, but that knife was only good for threatening people; threatening a Red Ant was like giving it a toy.
Suddenly, the scent of Strong Liquor filled the air. Shen Shuyu frowned. He had smelled this scent before—it was Chi Yanxun’s pheromones. He wanted to use pheromones to restrain the Red Ant!
As a top-tier Alpha, his mental strength was naturally not to be underestimated. Sure enough, as soon as his pheromones came out, the Mutant Red Ant’s combat power visibly weakened.
The scent of liquor shrouded this area of the forest. But there was a serious problem: Alpha pheromones repelled each other. Even though the pheromones weren’t targeting them, the Alphas present showed signs of rejection to varying degrees. Wen Jiafei was alright; due to his damaged gland, he was somewhat dull in this aspect.
He Mingyue, however, felt it truly. Frowning, he deftly took an inhibitor from his bag and injected himself quickly before feeling better.
Shen Shuyu and Shen Xili were hiding behind the rock. At first, he didn’t have much reaction, but when he saw He Mingyue injecting the inhibitor, he felt his body becoming abnormal. His hands and feet went soft, and the gland under the inhibitor patch began to heat up.
Fuck, fuck, fuck, what is going on?!
Before he could react, his arm was pulled up. He turned his head blankly and saw Shen Xili with a pale face, holding an inhibitor. He removed the needle cap and inserted the needle into Shen Shuyu’s vein. As the cold liquid slowly entered his body, the feeling of weakness and the heat in his gland became bearable.
Belatedly, Shen Shuyu sucked in a breath of cold air. “It hurts.”
Shen Xili paused but finished injecting the inhibitor. He pressed a cotton ball over the injection site and, knowing Shen Shuyu didn’t want to see him, automatically turned his head away.
Shen Shuyu was fully awake now. He was an Omega. Before being marked, Alpha pheromones were dangerous to him. The inhibitor patch could block general pheromones, but Chi Yanxun’s were too powerful to withstand.
He had no experience. If Shen Xili hadn’t reacted quickly, he probably would have gone into heat right there in public.
Shen Shuyu’s face darkened. This was the unfriendly part of the ABO world!
He held the cotton ball himself. Shen Xili didn’t speak, just silently withdrew his hand. After drinking a nutrient solution, the physical pain had subsided significantly.
Shen Shuyu calmed down too. Hearing no movement outside, he stood up and poked half his head out from the edge of the rock. They had lured the Red Ant into the fog; this area was safe now.
Shen Shuyu called the System in his mind, wanting to ask about their situation, but the System remained unresponsive, as if blocked by something.
He frowned, turned his head, and asked, “Can you manage by yourself?”
He had a bad feeling and wanted to go in and check.
Shen Xili had recovered a lot. He nodded. “You?”
He only uttered one syllable, but Shen Shuyu understood his meaning. Shen Shuyu said, “I want to go see them. You wait here for Lin Xuyi.”
“No.” Shen Xili rejected his idea without thinking. He coughed twice lightly. “You are an Omega. Whether it’s the Red Ant or the Alphas, the danger to you is high. Just stay here.”
He looked down at the nutrient solution in his hand. “I’ll go.”
He had become a burden right at the start because he was careless and got bitten by the small red ant. It was a blow not only to the team but also to himself.
He didn’t allow himself to be this weak. Growing up, if he was even a little weak, he might not have survived.
Shen Shuyu looked at Shen Xili’s expression and roughly understood what he was thinking. Shen Xili had always held high standards for himself. In the text, he truly worked hard to pursue his passion and become a Grand General. But in the end, for love, he willingly became Chi Yanxun’s vice-general. Clearly, his abilities and grades weren’t bad. In fact, due to his childhood experiences wandering, he seemed cold but actually had more empathy than Chi Yanxun.
As a Grand General, one couldn’t just have slaughter in their eyes; they needed a heart of compassion for the masses.
Shen Shuyu couldn’t help but let his thoughts drift. He thought: Can love really make someone willingly give up their lifelong dream?
