Chapter 42
After Chi Yanxun finished laying out a bunch of battle plans, he looked at the tablet again. “Now, I have a proposal.”
He said, “Look at the tablet. These squads are stationary, presumably also inside Safe Houses. It’s getting dark soon. Based on past experience, the danger level is higher at night. To avoid elimination in the darkness, many teams will wait until daybreak to travel.”
Wen Jiafei said, “You mean to say, we set off when it gets dark?”
Wen Jiafei was a man of few words. Speaking up suddenly caused everyone to look at him. He pursed his lips and fell silent again.
Chi Yanxun nodded. “Yes. High risk, high reward. Those who participate in the Survival War are all capable individuals. Our team…”
Chi Yanxun paused. His gaze swept lightly over Shen Shuyu before he continued, “Compared to other teams, our team might need to find a different path to increase our winning rate.”
Shen Shuyu continued to blink, pretending not to understand the implication in Chi Yanxun’s words. Anyway, outside the plot, he just needed to be Chi Yanxun’s simp. He nodded. “Brother Yanxun is right, I agree!”
Shen Xili hummed. “No problem, I’ll scout the path later.”
Chi Yanxun glanced at him, seemingly thinking of something, and hummed, “Okay.”
Shen Shuyu understood Chi Yanxun’s hesitation quite well. After all, from his perspective, as the captain, he naturally had to lead by example and walk at the front. But at the same time, he possessed a careful and sensitive heart. He knew that after Shen Xili was poisoned earlier and dragged everyone down, he now needed something to prove his ability.
It was just a pity that the original host didn’t feel this bit of sensitivity at all.
However, tonight there was a plot point for him to make trouble. Due to traveling through the night, the original host, as an Omega, couldn’t handle it. He would clamor for Chi Yanxun to carry him. But Chi Yanxun wouldn’t buy it; instead, he would care about whether Shen Xili was tired. Actually, it was just a normal inquiry between teammates, and Chi Yanxun asked others too. But because of Shen Xili’s outstanding appearance, in the original host’s eyes, Chi Yanxun treated Shen Xili differently.
This bit of “difference” paved the way for a series of troublemaking events later. Clearly, their team was the sure-win champion group, but it was forcibly messed up by the original host into a very suspenseful group. Only after he was eliminated did they press on to victory, eventually winning the championship. The original host could be considered to have won by doing nothing.
Shen Shuyu sighed silently in his heart. He actually knew from the moment he entered that he would be eliminated halfway, but he really craved that mecha. He felt that mecha was set up for him!
Now entering the plot, Shen Shuyu could only eliminate himself amidst regret.
Everyone had no objection to this. After all, arriving at the finish line earlier would make things easier for them.
Chi Yanxun glanced at the watch on his wrist. “Sync time.”
This watch was also issued by the organizers. Besides checking the time, it monitored everyone’s health bar in real-time. Fortunately, everyone’s health bars were full.
“It is now 5:36. In about two hours, after it gets dark, we will take turns resting and set off at 7:30 sharp.”
Everyone had no issues, and naturally, Shen Shuyu didn’t either. Chi Yanxun quickly assigned everyone’s watch duties, excluding Shen Shuyu.
Shen Shuyu pointed at himself. “Captain, what about me? Don’t I need to switch?”
“No need,” Chi Yanxun said. “I’ll take your shift.”
He couldn’t bet the whole team’s elimination on Shen Shuyu. Moreover, he was an Omega; resting more would mean better stamina for their night march later.
Shen Shuyu immediately had starry eyes. “Captain, you’re so good!”
Chi Yanxun felt a bit uncomfortable being stared at. He looked away. “You guys rest. When the time comes, I’ll call the next person to guard the house.”
While Chi Yanxun was arranging the rest times, Wen Jiafei had silently unfolded all the new military cots on the side. Shen Shuyu wasn’t polite; he picked the innermost bed, lay down, turned on his side, and went to sleep.
Watching him lie down so deftly to rest, Lin Xuyi couldn’t help laughing. He said, “Young Master, you really are self-aware.”
Shen Shuyu raised a hand and waved it, indicating he heard. Joke’s on them; if someone guarded for him, of course he was happy. He carried two people today; it practically exhausted him to numbness. Two hours was enough for him to recover his energy.
Chi Yanxun had already taken a chair and walked outside to sit, diligently acting as the goalkeeper.
Wen Jiafei lay on the new military cot next to Shen Shuyu. He turned his head slightly, looking at the back of Shen Shuyu’s neck exposed because his head was slightly lowered.
The gland was covered by an inhibitor patch; he couldn’t sense his scent.
Wen Jiafei lowered his voice and said, “Shen Shuyu, tear off the inhibitor patch and apply it again later.”
Shen Shuyu didn’t respond to him. Wen Jiafei waited for a while until he heard slow breathing from the next bed. Shen Shuyu had already fallen asleep.
Wen Jiafei kept his lips pressed together. After realizing Shen Shuyu was asleep and couldn’t give him an answer, he stared at his covered gland for a long while before slowly closing his eyes.
Closing his eyes, his mind replayed the image of Shen Shuyu carrying him after he was poisoned today. The next second, this scene merged with the time at the alley entrance when he was carried to the hospital.
He was really going crazy.
Wen Jiafei opened his eyes and looked at the back of Shen Shuyu’s neck again, but this time he looked away quickly. Shen Shuyu, an Omega who only knew how to rely on his family background to bully people, carrying him away was actually for his ‘Brother Yanxun.’
After all, if he hadn’t reacted, it would have been the injured Chi Yanxun carrying him.
Truly true love. To go this far for Chi Yanxun, even though Chi Yanxun didn’t like him. Wen Jiafei closed his eyes again expressionlessly. But having said that, Shen Shuyu had indeed changed a lot during this period, as if… he had become a different person.
Two hours later, Shen Shuyu was woken up by Lin Xuyi. The sky outside was already dark; they had to set off by moonlight.
Groggily, Shen Shuyu had a handgun stuffed into his arms.
He looked down, then looked up. Everyone was stuffing weapons onto themselves. Seeing Wen Jiafei wiping his short knife, he sobered up a bit. He opened his bag and took out the knife Shen Xili had shoved at him.
He called out, “Shen Xili.”
Shen Xili looked up at him. Shen Shuyu tossed the knife toward him. “Hold it yourself.”
Shen Xili caught the short knife steadily. Shen Shuyu hadn’t returned it to him earlier; he had thought Shen Shuyu lost it during the escape. He didn’t expect him to have stuffed it in his bag. Rubbing the handle lightly with his thumb, he looked at it for a few seconds before putting the knife back in its place. “Thank you.”
Chi Yanxun glanced at him, and Shen Shuyu glanced back, lifting his chin. “Got it.”
In his heart, however, he muttered, Why thank him? What a strange protagonist!
