Can a Naive Man Be a Heartthrob in a Bizarre World? Chapter 2.2

Part 2

That figure stood behind the streetlight, perfectly avoiding the illuminated area. The face was unclear, indistinct. When Luo Shizhen looked over, the figure turned its body sideways, as if making eye contact with him.

For no reason at all, the hairs on Luo Shizhen’s body stood on end.

Chu Xiao had been walking silently. Suddenly being pulled to a stop and sensing Luo Shizhen’s tension, he looked down slightly, his tone softening.

“Shizhen, what’s wrong?”

“That person…” Luo Shizhen pointed ahead. Before he could finish, things changed abruptly.

The figure under the streetlight suddenly leaped out, heading straight for two students who had just walked near.

“Ah!!!”

A terrified scream echoed through the campus. In the pool of light under the lamp, brighter than elsewhere, a large patch of dark shadow appeared.

It was blood—

That person was attacking students.

“Help!!!”

The pinned student let out a miserable cry for help.

Luo Shizhen recognized the voice. It was Zhang Cai from their class.

He quickly helped Chu Xiao sit on a flower bed.

Then he grabbed a brick from the flower bed border, weighed it in his hand, decided it could serve as a weapon, and held it tight.

“Chu Xiao, sit here. I’m going to help.”

Before Chu Xiao could sit firmly, Luo Shizhen had already sprinted off.

“Be careful!”

Chu Xiao shouted from behind, instinctively wanting to follow, but nearly fell because of his leg injury.

He cursed his leg under his breath. A beeping sound rang out. He raised his hand and saw his silver watch emitting an alert. His expression instantly turned grim.

Chu Xiao looked at Luo Shizhen rushing ahead, pressed a button on the watch, then leaned on his crutch and sped up toward them.

—The PE teacher guessed wrong. Luo Shizhen could fight.

He had been strong since childhood. Although he often failed to notice when others were bullying him, Chu Xiao noticed. Whenever Chu Xiao said someone was bullying him, Luo Shizhen would rush up to fight.

Kids several years older couldn’t beat him. Once, when a wild boar charged into town, Luo Shizhen had even fought it off to save Chu Xiao.

Luo Shizhen wasn’t smart, but his grandmother had raised him to be kind. He had experienced situations demanding courage like this several times growing up and was quite experienced.

Reaching the scene, he immediately smashed the brick onto the person pinning Zhang Cai down, kicked the person off, and seized the opportunity to land another brick blow.

With bad guys, you had to beat them until they couldn’t stand up to be safe.

Luo Shizhen slammed the brick down a few times, stood in front of Zhang Cai, and vigilantly stared at the person he had knocked rolling to the side.

Theoretically, the attacker shouldn’t have any fighting capability left.

But in the next second, this person sprang up from a laying position.

Sprang up?!!

Luo Shizhen froze. Under the streetlight, he saw the other person’s face clearly.

The face was pitch black, full of rotting flesh. The pupils were entirely white, and maggots slowly wriggled in the ears. Most of the lips had rotted away, revealing two long fangs with bloody residue around the teeth.

This… this wasn’t a human. It was clearly a corpse that had been dead for many days.

No, not just a corpse. Its arms were stretched straight out, and the extended fingers had long black nails.

It was a Zombie (Jiangshi), like in the TV shows.

Luo Shizhen’s mind went blank. Instinctively avoiding the black nails the Zombie thrust at him, he leaned sideways and smashed the brick onto its head again.

This blow knocked off half the Zombie’s head, but it didn’t seem affected. That terrifying face opened its mouth wide at Luo Shizhen.

“Ah!!”

Frightened, Luo Shizhen kicked the Zombie away.

He was born with great strength. As a child, he couldn’t distinguish light from heavy, but later he learned control. Even when acting bravely, he usually controlled his force. But now that he was scared, how could he remember any control?

Bang!

The Zombie crashed into the flower bed.

Before Luo Shizhen could sigh in relief, it bounced back up.

Luo Shizhen kicked it flying again.

It bounced again.

Luo Shizhen kicked again.

After several times, the Zombie seemed to get angry too. Letting out a muddled roar, it dodged Luo Shizhen’s kick and flew toward him.

Why can it fly too?!

Luo Shizhen awkwardly twisted his body to dodge, and just as he extended his leg to kick, the Zombie grabbed it.

The Zombie opened its mouth and lunged at him. In desperation, he shoved the brick into its mouth.

At this close range, he could even smell the putrid stench on the Zombie.

Man and corpse fell into a temporary stalemate. The Zombie couldn’t bite him, and he was stuck balancing on one leg, unable to change position.

—”Roar!”

The Zombie let out a furious roar. Luo Shizhen’s face scrunched up from the bad breath. Just as he was trying hard to turn his head away from the smell, the stench was suddenly covered by a crisp scent of winter snow.

Luo Shizhen watched in amazement as frost rapidly climbed up the Zombie, starting from its chest. Arms, face, lower limbs.

In a second, it became a frozen Zombie.

Before Luo Shizhen could react, in the next second, it burst into flames, burning fast and intensely.

His leg freed, he quickly pulled it back and retreated a few steps.

In just a few seconds, the Zombie was burned to a dry husk and collapsed with a crash.

Only after it fell were the two people behind it revealed.

One was Chu Xiao, leaning on his crutch.

The other was Qin Yinian, who had just transferred to Class 1 in the first half of the year.

Luo Shizhen looked at the dead Zombie and suddenly, strangely, felt a huge… appetite rising from the bottom of his heart??

Seeing Luo Shizhen staring blankly at the corpse, Qin Yinian snapped his fingers at him:

“What are you doing, dummy? Scared silly? Aren’t you going to thank me for saving you?”

Qin Yinian was also a standard top student, firmly sitting in the top three of the grade.

Aside from his good looks, he was most famous for having dyed highlights and wearing ear studs in No. 3 High School, where hair dyeing was forbidden. He also always wore gloves, even in class.

Surprisingly, the school didn’t make him dye it back and tacitly allowed the earrings.

Thus, stories began to circulate among students that Qin Yinian’s family was super rich and had donated three teaching buildings to the school.

Luo Shizhen rarely engaged in gossip. He knew Qin Yinian because Chu Xiao didn’t like him.

Back when he used to wait outside the classroom for Chu Xiao, Qin Yinian had tried to talk to him a few times. Chu Xiao had been very unhappy and once almost got physical with Qin Yinian.

Liu Ying from Class 1 had whispered to Luo Shizhen that the two had a very bad relationship.

Luo Shizhen considered himself Chu Xiao’s good friend. Since Chu Xiao and Qin Yinian didn’t get along, he shouldn’t hang out with Qin Yinian either.

But he felt awkward ignoring Qin Yinian when spoken to, so he simply avoided him. Since they weren’t in the same class, he would just steer clear from a distance whenever he saw him in the cafeteria or elsewhere.

But now, Qin Yinian said he had saved him.

Luo Shizhen hadn’t quite recovered yet and replied dazedly out of instinct, “Thank you.”

Qin Yinian was immediately amused. “I tell you to thank me and you thank me? So obedient?”

Luo Shizhen slowly came back to his senses. “That fire, no, that ice… this…”

Zombies, ice, fire—these were all beyond the scope of Luo Shizhen’s worldview.

Qin Yinian looked at Chu Xiao with some surprise, narrowing his fox-like eyes.

“You didn’t tell him?”

Luo Shizhen looked at Chu Xiao, then at Qin Yinian. Suddenly remembering something, he shivered and turned around.

“Zhang Cai!!”

Luo Shizhen had a one-track mind. Compared to investigating zombies, ice, and fire, he felt his classmate’s life was more important.

He ran to the bloody Zhang Cai. Her neck was covered in mangled flesh and blood. Fortunately, she wasn’t dead yet; her eyes were open, and she was crying out in pain.

Classmates who had heard the commotion and run over arrived. Seven or eight hands reached out, not knowing what to do. Luckily, a teacher was nearby. Upon seeing the scene, they immediately called 120 and 110.

The crowd was chaotic. Qin Yinian and Chu Xiao didn’t join in, just standing not far away.

Qin Yinian was still a bit surprised. “You really didn’t tell him? Seeing how close you two are, I thought you would have said something.”

Chu Xiao spoke coldly. “Tell him what? Tell him that monsters and ghosts are appearing all over the world now, and they might pop up anytime, anywhere to treat humans as food?”
