Chapter 21 part 1
Luo Shizhen’s hand was fair but not slender. His nails were neatly trimmed, and one could vaguely see a thin layer of calluses at the knuckles left by years of diligent study and constant writing.
It looked… very ordinary.
But Rong Nian instantly entered a state of excitement. More shiny scales surfaced behind his ears.
Even two semi-transparent ear fins fluttered slightly, opening uncontrollably.
“So fragrant…”
Rong Nian instinctively lowered his head to lick, but then, as if afraid Luo Shizhen would stop him again, he panted lightly, eyes slanting upward to steal a glance at Luo Shizhen’s expression.
It was as if checking if his beastly appearance was being loathed, or waiting for permission.
Luo Shizhen didn’t understand that he was waiting for permission at all. He looked at Rong Nian strangely:
“What are you looking at me for? Didn’t you want to lick?”
Pausing for a second, Luo Shizhen realized, “Do you want me to wash my hands again?”
“No need.”
Seeing Luo Shizhen about to withdraw his hand, Rong Nian grasped it with both hands. The human warmth transferred over, making him tremble slightly.
He lowered his beautiful eyes, cautiously, as if afraid of hurting Luo Shizhen, and gently licked.
Rong Nian like this actually looked a bit like an obedient student.
Luo Shizhen was even a little expectant. He had never seen anything like placing a prey Mark even in TV shows.
Maybe some special effects would appear.
But nothing happened. Luo Shizhen didn’t even feel his hand getting hot or anything; he only felt Rong Nian licking him gently like a kitten.
Chen He’an couldn’t watch anymore:
“That’s enough. Marking doesn’t take this long.”
He controlled the duplicate student to forcefully pull Rong Nian away.
Rong Nian licked his lips contentedly. Because his wish was fulfilled, he was in a good mood and didn’t struggle, letting the other self handle him.
“I will repay you.”
There was still a blush of satisfaction on his face. Because of the slight Siren transformation, overly sharp tiger teeth pressed against his lip as he smiled sweetly at Luo Shizhen.
“I didn’t lick you uncomfortably, did I?”
Luo Shizhen shook his head. “No, it’s about the same as Big Yellow licking me.”
Rong Nian’s docile and satisfied expression instantly froze. He asked vigilantly, “Who is Big Yellow?”
The Little Spirit Sprite popped out of Chen He’an’s collar with a swish, eyes wide, and chirped quietly, as if asking “When did I lick you?”
So it had run out of the classroom earlier to find Chen He’an.
Luo Shizhen quickly explained, “I don’t mean you. I mean the other Big Yellow. It’s a dog raised by my elementary school principal. It’s very well-behaved and often licks my hand.”
Only then did the Little Spirit Sprite slowly retract into the collar, leaving only a green corner exposed, as if observing the outside situation.
As for Rong Nian, his expression of hidden pride and satisfaction instantly stiffened.
“You say I am like a dog?”
Luo Shizhen scratched his head and explained:
“I didn’t say you look like a dog. I meant the feeling of you licking me is similar to a dog licking me.”
Rong Nian’s expression looked even uglier. “I am a Siren. How can a dog compare to me?”
He looked down on humans, let alone dogs.
Luo Shizhen said “Oh” and replied, “Then I won’t compare.”
Rong Nian: “…”
He felt insulted and aggressive, only to feel like he punched cotton.
Chen He’an smiled gently and asked, “Does Shizhen like puppies very much?”
He had given Big Yellow a dog’s name before, and now recalled another Big Yellow with a nostalgic look. He must like dogs very much.
“I like them.”
Luo Shizhen chuckled. “I like puppies the most. But Grandma is allergic to dog hair, so I’ve never raised a dog.”
Chen He’an always tried to satisfy students’ requests as much as possible. Hearing this, he immediately said:
“You are at school now. If you like puppies, why not raise one? How about Teacher takes you to pick one?”
Luo Shizhen shook his head almost immediately. “Thank you, Teacher, but I can’t raise a pet right now.”
Chen He’an was a bit surprised, after all, Luo Shizhen’s love for puppies was visible to the naked eye.
“Why?”
Luo Shizhen stated seriously, “Because I am still a student now. I have classes every day and live in the school dorm. How can I take good care of a puppy?”

“I will have to fight Anomalies in the future too. The freshman precaution notes issued by the school also wrote that fighting Anomalies is dangerous, and one might die on the battlefield. If I die, no one will take care of my dog. So I can’t raise one now. I have to wait until I retire, have a house and savings, and time to take care of a puppy, then I can raise one.”

He withdrew his hand and gently tapped the green corner of the Little Spirit Sprite. The Little Spirit Sprite reluctantly poked its head out, glanced quickly at Luo Shizhen with big eyes, blinked, and quickly burrowed back in.
Luo Shizhen didn’t get that it was afraid of him at all and laughed cheerfully. “It gets shy so easily.”
Chen He’an said, “Its personality is a bit shy, but it’s just not familiar with you yet. After you are in contact for a long time, it won’t be afraid.”
Luo Shizhen nodded obediently. “It doesn’t matter. It is your Big Yellow, Teacher Chen. It’s normal for it to only be close to you.”
“When I raise a dog in the future, I can play with the puppy every day, comb its hair, take it for a bath, and we can sleep together at night. My dog will definitely be very close to me too.”
Rong Nian listened in a daze, then became somewhat fascinated.
In that case, being Luo Shizhen’s dog means staying with him every day, bathing together, and sleeping together?
The Mark only lasts three months, but if I can be Luo Shizhen’s dog, wouldn’t I be able to smell him as long as I want?

Rong Nian didn’t listen at all, just continuing to speak to Luo Shizhen:
“Luo Shizhen, raise me. I am very easy to raise. I can even give you my salary.”
“The scent on you smells very good. How about we sleep together tonight?”
Chen He’an had a helpless expression. He snapped his fingers, signaling the duplicate to take Rong Nian away.
“Don’t scare your classmate.”
“For these three days of confinement, calm down properly in the confinement room.”
Rong Nian was taken away by the duplicate.
Luo Shizhen looked blank, not understanding how it evolved into Rong Nian asking to be raised by him.
Unable to figure it out, he asked Chen He’an, “Was Rong Nian joking with me?”
He always had trouble distinguishing which sentences were true and which were jokes.
Chen He’an comforted Luo Shizhen, “Don’t mind him. He has some confusion about his identity positioning.”
Luo Shizhen was confused.
“Rong Nian is Sequence 14—Atavism—Siren. Awakeners of this sequence become very powerful when they grow up, but there is a flaw: they are easily controlled by bestial nature and lose their reason.”
“Almost all Atavism-type Awakeners cannot control semi-beast transformation during their initial awakening and cannot turn back into a complete human form.”
“Although Xia Country hadn’t announced the existence of Awakeners before, monitoring points were deployed in all six hundred and sixty-six cities. Basically, all Atavism-type Awakeners are immediately brought back to the Awakener Center after awakening to spend this period. They only leave when they can control turning into a complete human appearance.”
Chen He’an’s tone was light, but it contained a hint of pity unique to a teacher for a student:
“But that child Rong Nian is special…”
When he awakened, he was only three years old. While playing at a beach abroad, he was swept into the sea by waves.
Rong Nian was lucky. He should have drowned, but at the last moment of drowning, he awakened and became a Siren.
