Chapter 27 part 1
When Lin Qi saw that Sui An had wrapped a cocoon, and that there was a Luo Shizhen inside said cocoon, he couldn’t maintain his persona. He was so startled that the scanner in his hand nearly dropped.
Fortunately, Awakeners had excellent reflexes. Lin Qi snatched the scanner up just before it hit the ground.
“What’s the situation?”
He looked as if he had seen a ghost. “Something happened to Luo Shizhen? A training accident? Is he still alive??”
Sui An was speechless. “Don’t jinx him.”
He said with a natural expression, “He fell asleep.”
Lin Qi was still skeptical. “He really just fell asleep?”
He leaned in closer and sure enough, he saw Luo Shizhen sleeping soundly with a peaceful expression. He really didn’t look injured.
He let out a sigh of relief. “Scared me to death. If the student is just sleeping, why did you weave a web, Chief?”
According to Lin Qi’s observations, Sui An wouldn’t weave a web under normal circumstances. He only wove webs to seize control when he encountered an Awakener who was polluted and it was uncertain whether they would mutate.
The members of the Silver Cocoon squad knew that once Sui An wove a web, someone was going to die.
An Awakener trapped in his web, regardless of their Sequence or Rank, was essentially trapped in Sui An’s domain. They became prey unable to resist; with a single thought, he could easily kill them.
Yet now, not only had Sui An used the web—which usually guaranteed bloodshed upon appearance—but Luo Shizhen was sleeping comfortably inside it, completely unaware of the danger.

“Weaving a web is just one of my abilities. It doesn’t imply anything else; you guys just like to overthink.”
Sui An sat lazily on a lounge chair. Luo Shizhen, wrapped in the cocoon, floated to his side without realizing it.
He raised his hand, and more transparent threads appeared out of thin air, wrapping around a bottle of water on a table not far away, then delivering it into Sui An’s hand.
After catching the water, the man raised an eyebrow at Lin Qi. “See? Weaving a web.”
Lin Qi: “…” Using a domain that only high-ranking Awakeners could unfold just to fetch a bottle of water… that was indeed something Captain Sui would do.
He pointed to another lounge chair beneath Luo Shizhen.
“We’re here now. Chief, put him on the chair.”
Seeing Luo Shizhen ignorant and peaceful, sleeping in a web domain that could take his life at any moment…
He felt like his heart was about to stop.
Sui An: “There’s only one minute left. Let the kid sleep. Why fuss?”
Lin Qi could only stand guard at the side with a toothache-like expression.
One minute later.
Sui An opened a slit in the cocoon so sound could travel in.
The alarm rang, and Luo Shizhen sat up abruptly.

“Yes, sir.”
Luo Shizhen’s limbs were still a bit weak, but with the supportive help of the transparent threads, he quickly stood firm.
Lin Qi watched as Luo Shizhen naturally held onto the threads, using them as if they were ordinary supports to stand up. His handsome face twitched involuntarily.
One had to know, these threads were the external manifestation of Captain Sui’s mental power.
Don’t let Captain Sui’s usual lazy and easy-going demeanor fool you; if he were truly easy-going, he wouldn’t be feared wherever he went.
As an Inspector, Sui An was undoubtedly the one who adapted to the position fastest among all Inspectors.
Often, he might be smiling and talking to a suspected polluted Awakener one second, and the next, transparent threads would pierce the Awakener’s chest without them ever realizing it.
Sometimes, polluted Awakeners mutated secretly; they might not even know they were in the process of mutating.
It could be just like any other day, laughing and talking with teammates in the hallway. They would pass Sui An, and a second later, the person would stop breathing.
Some teammates of the killed mutated Awakeners even suspected that those Awakeners hadn’t mutated at all, and that Sui An was abusing his power as an Inspector.
Because he seemed too indifferent.
Whether the Awakener he killed was a stranger, a teacher who had once taught him, or a teammate he had spent day and night with, he would act as if nothing was wrong one second, interacting normally, and use his ability the next, quietly watching the person before him die quickly.
Many Awakeners who witnessed their teammates die at Sui An’s hands detested him deeply.
Some Awakeners even appealed to headquarters, demanding a thorough investigation into whether Sui An met the standards of an Inspector, and whether the Awakeners he killed were truly mutating.
Sui An had even gone to court a few times for this, but was always judged to be in compliance with Inspector standards.
But even with the court verdicts, many Awakeners who witnessed their teammates’ deaths still held a grudge, believing he was using the Inspector position for personal ends.
The authority of the Inspector position was too great. It was no exaggeration to say that if Sui An believed the current leader of Eternal Day was mutating, he had the right to kill them immediately.
Before joining Silver Cocoon, Lin Qi had heard of Sui An’s fame.
Back then, he was still a chunibyo teenager, just like every newly awakened youngster, thinking he was incredibly awesome.
He was indeed excellent, testing into Silver Cocoon, only to be beaten by Sui An until he recognized his true standing.
But Sui An was truly a charismatic commander. After following him for only half a year, Lin Qi decided to follow him for life.
Later, feeling they were familiar enough, Lin Qi once asked Sui An: since Awakeners trapped in his web domain couldn’t escape, why not capture them first and send them to Eternal Day for testing?
Once the pollution test results came out, and the Awakener’s family and teammates accepted that he had mutated, no one would fault Sui An for acting then.
Wasn’t the thing everyone feared most about Sui An the fact that you couldn’t tell what he intended to do next?
At that time, Sui An simply recited a regulation to Lin Qi:
“Guardian Regulation Article 1: Once an Awakener is confirmed to be mutating, on-site personnel must take immediate measures to kill the out-of-control Awakener on the spot to prevent irreversible damage.”
After reciting, he glanced at Lin Qi. “Guardian Regulation Article 99: Copy it ten times tonight.”
Lin Qi at that time: “…”
He certainly knew what the first regulation was, but that regulation was meant to control the damage caused by mutating Awakeners.
That was thirty years ago when the Anomalies first descended. There was a shortage of Awakeners, and unlike now, they didn’t have equipment to counter Anomalies or cages to trap mutating Awakeners.
Under those circumstances, Guardians had to kill mutating Awakeners quickly.
But now, facing situations where mutation was hidden and even the individual hadn’t noticed, they could have given them time to say goodbye to family and friends.
After copying the regulations ninety-nine times, he couldn’t resist and went to pester Sui An again.
At the time, Sui An was writing a training plan. He was wearing casual clothes, with some fruit piled on his desk, looking like a very ordinary Awakener.
But when Lin Qi asked this question, Sui An’s expression remained lazy as usual, his hand still writing the training plan.
The words he spoke, however, were incredibly calm: “Isn’t the result the same?”
Lin Qi: “Huh?”
Sui An didn’t even lift his head, clearly unaffected by the topic.
“Whether killed on the spot or killed after a series of procedures, isn’t the result the same? They still die.”
“But, the process would be different. At least if they say goodbye to friends and family, it wouldn’t be as sad…”
“Regardless of whether there are goodbyes, once a person dies, the living will still be sad. There is no hierarchy to the degree of sadness.”
