Part 2
Luo Shizhen felt relieved. But he felt embarrassed taking advantage of Mr. Chen, so he whispered:
“No need for the leave pay, and no travel expenses either. Just help me buy a return ticket. Once I get to the station, I can take the bus back to school myself.”
Chen He’an sighed with emotion for the umpteenth time. “Shizhen, you really are a good child.”
Praised, Luo Shizhen felt a bit shy, his ears turning red. Mr. Chen really liked to praise people; in less than a day, he had been praised so many times.
Moreover, Mr. Chen stood up for him and made Qin Yinian apologize.
This caused Luo Shizhen’s fondness for Mr. Chen to skyrocket in a very short time, even developing a sense of reliance.
He now hoped he was an Awakener. If he was, Mr. Chen could continue being his teacher, just like Ms. Gao.
So, when the car stopped and Chu Xiao and Qin Yinian woke up, they found that Luo Shizhen had suddenly become very close to Chen He’an.
When they got in the car, it was all “Chu Xiao, Chu Xiao.” After getting out, it had changed to “Mr. Chen, where is this?”, “Mr. Chen, have a candy too,” and “Mr. Chen, this place is so big.”
Qin Yinian found it strange at first, but seeing Chu Xiao’s expressionless faceāwhich clearly indicated unhappinessāhe began to gloat.
“Mr. Chen really has great charisma. In just a little while, your good friend has become Mr. Chen’s little follower.”
Although Luo Shizhen wasn’t looking for him either, seeing Chu Xiao unhappy made him happy.
Chu Xiao leaned on his crutch and walked forward to Luo Shizhen, who was following Chen He’an.
“Luo Shizhen, I’m a bit carsick. Support me.”
“Oh, okay.”
Qin Yinian rolled his eyes behind them, thinking Luo Shizhen really was a fool. Chu Xiao was an Awakener; how could he be so carsick that he couldn’t walk steadily?
Luo Shizhen didn’t know what Qin Yinian was thinking. He obediently supported Chu Xiao and even fished a candy from his pocket, asking with concern:
“Chu Xiao, have a candy. You’ll feel better after eating it.”
Seeing Luo Shizhen so nervous about him, Chu Xiao’s expression improved. He took the candy, unwrapped it, and ate it.
“Is it good?”
Luo Shizhen shared happily, “Mr. Chen gave it to me. He was afraid I’d be nervous and said eating candy would help.”
Chu Xiao paused in the middle of eating the candy.
Luo Shizhen continued sharing with his friend cheerfully:
“Chu Xiao, Mr. Chen is so nice. He told me lots of new things, made Qin Yinian apologize to me, and gave me candy. Mr. Chen also said that since I like riding in cars, he’ll drive me around Luoxia City to play during the holidays.”
Chu Xiao’s face gradually turned cold again.
He had a naturally cool and distant personality. Now that his face had turned cold, Luo Shizhen didn’t notice and kept chattering about how good Mr. Chen was.
A sullen anger rose in Chu Xiao’s heart, growing stronger and stronger. He couldn’t pinpoint the exact reason, but his expression became icier. Hearing the rest, he snatched the crutch directly from Luo Shizhen’s hand.
“Since you like Mr. Chen so much, go find him. No need to support me.”
Luo Shizhen was confused. “But aren’t you uncomfortable? I need to support you.”
Chu Xiao said coldly, “I’m fine now. I don’t need your help.”
“Alright then.”
Luo Shizhen believed him instantly. He obediently returned the crutch and then trotted forward happily.
“Mr. Chen! Wait for me!!”
Chu Xiao: “…”
Chen He’an patted the shoulder of Luo Shizhen, who had caught up, glanced back at Chu Xiao’s faceāwhich was as cold as iceāand asked gently:
“Conflict with your friend?”
“No.” Luo Shizhen shook his head. He had just helped Chu Xiao, after all.
Chen He’an looked at Chu Xiao again.
This kid was part of the batch with the highest Awakening levels among the new students. He had always been unruly. Seemingly polite, his arrogance was actually on par with Qin Yinian’s; it was just that Qin Yinian showed it outwardly, while he kept it inside.
It was the first time seeing him eat crow like this.
Smiling, Chen He’an offered him an out, asking loudly:
“Chu Xiao, your leg isn’t healed yet. Come here, Teacher will support you.”
Before Chu Xiao could answer, Qin Yinian stepped up from behind and grabbed Chu Xiao to support him. “Teacher, no need. I’ll support him.”
Chu Xiao tried to shake off his hand in disgust. Qin Yinian, looking triumphant and taking advantage of Chu Xiao’s inconvenience due to the injured leg, deliberately annoyed him.
“Don’t be shy, don’t be shy. We’re all classmates; helping each other is expected.”
Chu Xiao said coldly, “What kind of fit are you throwing now?”
“Can’t I care about a classmate?”
Qin Yinian simply didn’t want Chu Xiao to be comfortable.
He still remembered how Luo Shizhen, who looked so easy to talk to and tease, had avoided him and run the other way several times just because of Chu Xiao.
Qin Yinian had no interest in Luo Shizhen; teasing him was just for fun. He looked down on such clumsy guys.
But it just had to be this clumsy guy who expressed disdain for him, avoiding him like he was a scourge or a monster.
Qin Yinian had been the center of attention wherever he went since childhood. When had he ever suffered such a loss?
Now it was great. It was Chu Xiao’s turn to taste this feeling.
Behind them, one insisted on helping, the other refused, even triggering their ice and fire abilities. Chen He’an thought about it and decided not to intervene.
Awakeners mostly had territorial instincts, especially the young ones, who had an even stronger sense of predation. Meeting each other was like wild beasts meeting; no one submitted to anyone.
That was exactly why the Awakener School existedāto artificially gather these young people together to train and learn, fostering emotional bonds.
Only by grinding together in school could they fight as a team against Anomalies in the future.
Chen He’an had led several batches of students and was experienced. With these young Awakeners, he didn’t fear them fighting; he only feared them ignoring each other.
As long as there was conflict, there was interaction. Interaction led to emotional fluctuations. With enough fluctuations, living and eating together, and facing operations together, friendship would naturally develop.
The friendships of young Awakeners were mostly forged through fighting.
Someone like Luo Shizhen, who would happily treat anyone as a friend just for being nice to him, was truly a first among Awakeners.
Perhaps his Sequence ability wasn’t high, so he wasn’t influenced much by Awakener instincts.
However, if it really was the Purification ability, even if the level wasn’t high, it needed to be highly prioritized.
Luo Shizhen completely failed to notice that Chu Xiao and Qin Yinian were about to fight behind him. He was completely captivated by the buildings in front of him.
Chen He’an introduced, “This is the Guardian Center Base of Luoxia City, also called the Eternal Day Base.”
Luo Shizhen followed curiously, looking around as he asked, “Didn’t you say it was for Awakeners?”
Chen He’an explained patiently:
” ‘Awakener’ refers to everyone who has awakened an ability. But not all Awakeners are willing to join the official forces. Some don’t like combat and just want a normal life; others prefer to fight alone and dislike restraint. Only those who join the official guardian organizations are called Guardians.”
“However, even if they don’t join the Guardians, Awakeners need to have a file with the government. So basically, all Awakeners must go to the local Guardian Center Base for detailed ability testing and filing when they first awaken.”
“Hongxi City doesn’t have a Guardian Center Base, so I had to bring you to Luoxia City.”
Luo Shizhen looked at the scene before him in awe.
No. 3 High School was already big in Luo Shizhen’s eyes, but this place Mr. Chen brought them to was even bigger. It was hidden in a secluded valley, but inside was a complex of streamlined buildings. Soldiers in combat uniforms holding long guns stood everywhere, scrutinizing everyone who walked in.
There were even things with wings, looking like butterflies, flying around as if patrolling.
“Those are Wood Spirits. Like Spirit Essences, they are one of the most harmless types in the Bizarre Sequence.”
Chen He’an took out a piece of candy and placed it in his palm. A small Wood Spirit flew down hesitantly. Only after it landed did Luo Shizhen realize it had a human form, just with big eyes and a small nose, like a tiny person in a cartoon, its wings shimmering as they fluttered.
The little Wood Spirit hovered over Chen He’an’s palm for a moment, then suddenly swooped down, hugged the candyāwhich was as long as its armāand flew back, wobbling with the effort.
