Cannon Fodder O Pretending to be A Will Lose Their Vest Chapter 21.3

Part 3

Even he felt it was a bit strange, yet he still got up and headed toward the lab building.

Entering the lab building, he waited for quite a while but saw no sign of Professor Ariel. The man wasn’t in the lab at all, and he didn’t reply to messages. Jiang Chenyan frowned, intending to turn back, but realized the lab building felt exceptionally wrong today.

Most of the lights in the hallway seemed to be broken. Even though it was daytime, it felt like night—pitch black and oppressive, making it hard to breathe.

Passing the end of the hallway, he caught sight of that half-open room again. The balloons and dolls were still there. This time, as he looked at them, they didn’t seem as creepy. Colorful balloons floated in the air, and plush dolls tilted their heads.

To be honest, it was actually quite cozy.

Just as Jiang Chenyan was about to turn around, his shoulder bumped into a warm, black-clothed figure, and his steps halted abruptly.

Looking up at the person in front of him, Jiang Chenyan suddenly froze.

It was Mu Sixian.

Mu Sixian looked completely different from usual. He was wearing a white lab coat, his skin looking cool and pale, even more so under the flickering lights. A wicked smile played at the corners of his lips, and his deep eyes stared straight at Jiang Chenyan.

Jiang Chenyan felt a chill rush up his spine. Why would this person suddenly appear here? Silent as a ghost.

He took a few steps back, looking at the person warily. He didn’t dare stay. Sensing Mu Sixian wasn’t right, he bolted toward the stairwell.

Behind him, Mu Sixian let out a low laugh and unhurriedly began to chase after him.

Jiang Chenyan ran for his life. Behind him, Mu Sixian’s footsteps were like a soul-chasing specter, following him at a leisurely pace.

Not knowing where the strength came from, Jiang Chenyan found he wasn’t winded at all while running. Was his stamina really this good?

Just as he was relieved he hadn’t been caught, a slight sensation touched the back of his neck. Mu Sixian had silently caught up, his cold fingertips touching his neck.

Mu Sixian covered Jiang Chenyan’s mouth from behind. The strength wasn’t great, but it prevented him from making a sound. Immediately after, he was dragged toward a nearby room.

Jiang Chenyan’s pupils dilated. He opened his mouth and bit the other’s hand hard. The result was that the man acted as if he had no sensation at all, not even furrowing his brows.

Even when the taste of blood spread on his tongue and blood dripped from between Mu Sixian’s fingers, the man didn’t care in the slightest.

Only then did Jiang Chenyan realize with hindsight that he had been brought into that room filled with balloons and dolls.

“…”

Mu Sixian finally let go, shaking the blood from his hand. A few drops even splashed onto Jiang Chenyan’s face. He smiled grimly. “Why are you running when you see me? Jiang Chenyan, don’t you think it’s been many days since we last met?”

The corners of his mouth curled up. “Are you a mute? Speak.”

As he spoke, he pressed closer, his breath carrying a chill as it brushed against Jiang Chenyan’s ear. He spoke in a very low, sinister voice: “Or are you avoiding me?”

Jiang Chenyan’s body was stiff. He suddenly raised his hand and pushed him away. “Stay the hell away from me.”

Mu Sixian laughed, though the smile didn’t reach his eyes. “It hurts my feelings when you say that.”

He suddenly reached out and grabbed Jiang Chenyan’s collar, the force so great it almost tore the fabric. He jerked the man toward him, his eyes dark as he stared at him. “Jiang Chenyan, actually, there’s a question I’ve always wanted to ask you.”

“Do you know? An Omega has appeared in our school.” Mu Sixian leaned in, closing the distance between them until their breaths almost mingled. “Who do you think that person is?”

Jiang Chenyan gritted his teeth. “How should I know?”

“But why do I feel like that Omega is you?” Mu Sixian curled his lips, watching with satisfaction as the blood drained from Jiang Chenyan’s face, leaving it pale.

“Don’t talk nonsense without evidence.”

Jiang Chenyan clenched his fists, a surge of irritation in his heart. He couldn’t understand why this was happening. What reason could Mu Sixian have to suspect him?

“Are you very scared?” Mu Sixian stared at his tense profile and let out a low laugh, saying word for word, “After all, if your identity is discovered, you will be directly expelled from the school.”

He leaned in further, his voice fine and stinging like a needle pricking Jiang Chenyan’s heart: “When you can no longer stay in the military academy, won’t your mission be a complete failure? And what awaits you then… won’t it be the system’s obliteration?”

Jiang Chenyan’s face instantly lost all color, his fingertips turning cold. He began to struggle desperately.

How did he know? The system…

Jiang Chenyan cried out for the system in his mind, but the usually instant mechanical voice was now intermittent and full of lag: [I… I don’t know the situation either, Ho… Host.]

Jiang Chenyan cursed inwardly. Crap.

He threw a punch at Mu Sixian. So what if he was discovered? There was always a way to solve it, always a chance to escape…

Mu Sixian didn’t budge. One hand blocked Jiang Chenyan’s punch, while the other gripped both of his wrists, pinning them above his head.

The pressure of his fingers on the wrists gradually increased. Mu Sixian leaned down toward Jiang Chenyan’s ear, whispering like a demon: “Jiang Chenyan, how about I send you to hell?”

The other’s strength was absurdly great. Jiang Chenyan had no power to resist under him, feeling his whole body go soft and weightless, until even struggling became a luxury.

He didn’t know what was wrong with him. He felt weak all over, truly becoming like a cotton doll with zero strength.

The next second, Mu Sixian jerked him hard against the windowsill. His arm suddenly exerted force, and Jiang Chenyan was sent falling out the window.

Now Jiang Chenyan completely understood. Mu Sixian wanted to kill him.

He truly had sent him to hell.

In a trance, he saw the demon’s mouth opening and closing as the man jumped down as well. “Look, haven’t I come to accompany you?”

Even more bizarre was that the demon’s face changed from Mu Sixian to Shen Shiyue.

The cold voice wound around Jiang Chenyan’s ear as the boundless darkness swallowed him whole. He was like a puppet with broken strings, only knowing to fall further and further down.

Was he going to die?

Jiang Chenyan had a splitting headache. Was death this painful?

He felt his whole body burning up terrifyingly, even his breath carrying a scorching temperature. In his delirium, he truly thought his temperature had spiked to 40 degrees.

Faint shouts reached his ears, one after another: “Jiang Chenyan…”

“Wake up, why is your fever so high?”

Before he could clear his thoughts, a pair of strong arms gently picked him up. The cold touch dispelled some of the burning misery.

He tried his best to open his eyes, but his eyelids felt like they weighed a thousand pounds. He could only force a tiny slit.

In his blurred vision, it was first Mu Sixian’s face. “Why isn’t he waking up yet?”

The next second, it changed to Shen Shiyue’s.

The two faces alternated before his eyes, making him dizzy.

Jiang Chenyan: “…”

He was literally woken up by anger.

When he woke, the smell of disinfectant hit him. Jiang Chenyan moved his fingers, feeling like his bones had fallen apart. Looking around, he found himself in the infirmary.

“What’s the situation?” he murmured in a raspy voice.

[Host, you’re finally awake! I almost thought you were a goner. The preliminary judgment is that you caught a high fever from being in the rain.]

“How is that possible?” Jiang Chenyan coughed twice. “My physical constitution is excellent. How could I get a fever just from a little rain?”

System: […]

He slowly reached out his hand. On the back of it were several faint greenish needle marks; it no longer hurt.

Jiang Chenyan stared at those needle marks for a few seconds. He finally fully realized that the feeling of being dragged to the window and pushed out by Mu Sixian was all fake.

It was nothing but a dream.

But there was a saying: what you think of by day, you dream of by night.

He only had those few secrets in his heart. Once they were exposed, he truly might fall into an abyss from which there was no return. Though it was a dream, it served as a warning.

Jiang Chenyan felt weak all over. Just as he was about to close his eyes for another rest, the door to the infirmary was pushed open.

“How are you feeling?”
