Cannon Fodder O Pretending to be A Will Lose Their Vest Chapter 31.2

Part 2

Before the cigarette butt had even been fully tossed into the trash can, Jiang Chenyan’s body stiffened violently. He was stunned for two seconds before slowly looking up.

When he saw clearly who had come, his pupils constricted slightly. The contours between the man’s brows were somewhat similar to his own, both hinting at the relationship between the two.

“What are you doing here?”

It was Jiang Xuan-shen.

Jiang Xuan-shen let out a low laugh. The laughter was wrapped in a bit of casual coolness. “Why can’t I be here?” He moved half a step forward, his shadow lightly covering the front of Jiang Chenyan. His tone deepened by a few points. “Brother, I have been looking for you for a long time. Something important has happened at home; you must come back for a visit.”

Jiang Chenyan retreated half a step. “Isn’t there you at home? What use would I be if I went back?”

“What if I say it is the birthday of a family elder?” Jiang Xuan-shen’s tone turned indifferent. “All juniors in the family must attend. You haven’t forgotten this rule, have you?”

Jiang Chenyan: “…”

He hadn’t forgotten; he just hadn’t remembered it at all in the first place.

There were so many elders in the family, and their birthdays came one after another. He couldn’t even distinguish who was who, so how could he possibly remember such a thing?

Jiang Chenyan frowned. “For this kind of thing, you could have just sent a message to tell me. There was no need to specifically come find me.”

Seeing his resistant appearance, the corners of Jiang Xuan-shen’s mouth hooked into a half-smile that wasn’t quite a smile. His voice cooled by several degrees. “You blacklisted me. How was I supposed to send it?”

Jiang Chenyan: “…”

That was probably the original owner’s operation.

It seemed the original owner also didn’t particularly like Jiang Xuan-shen.

Jiang Chenyan didn’t pick up the conversation and simply changed the topic. “We’re leaving tonight?”

“Mm.” Jiang Xuan-shen gave a non-committal response, the corners of his mouth turning up slightly. “I came specifically to pick you up.”

Jiang Chenyan pursed his lips, speechless for a moment. “…”

After a pause, he then spoke: “I’ll go tell my friends.”

Jiang Xuan-shen didn’t stop him, only leaning against the wall and watching him turn to enter the bar. As soon as Jiang Chenyan entered, he saw that Shen Shiyue was already sitting in his original place. Seeing him return, the other asked: “Where did you go? I didn’t see you just now.”

“Went to have a smoke,” Jiang Chenyan walked over. “And I ended up bumping into my big brother outside. He said a family elder is having a birthday and told me to go back for a visit.”

Hearing this, Shen Shiyue frowned. “Is that so?”

“Yeah…” Jiang Chenyan paused, his fingertips unconsciously rubbing the glass on the table. “But I always feel like something isn’t right, though I can’t say specifically what it is.”

“How about this, I will definitely return to the dorm before 12 o’clock tonight. If I’m not back, remember to come save me.”

But on second thought, the words “save me” were too exaggerated. After all, he was his biological brother; he couldn’t really do anything to him.

“Actually, it’s probably nothing.” Jiang Chenyan let out a yawn. “There are already many elders in my family. Dealing with these matters has always been a hassle.”

When he had occasionally searched for the Jiang family’s population list before, Jiang Chenyan was nearly scared to death. Even recognizing everyone was difficult, let alone remembering everyone’s birthday clearly.

Jiang Chenyan patted Shen Shiyue’s shoulder: “I’m leaving first. You help me tell Ling Yi and the others.”

Shen Shiyue nodded: “Okay, be careful on the road.”

Jiang Chenyan arrived in front of Jiang Xuan-shen and said to him, “Let’s go.”

After sitting in the skiff, the tipsiness gradually surged. Jiang Chenyan leaned against the seat, his eyelids starting to feel heavy, and he grew drowsy.

Jiang Xuan-shen beside him suddenly spoke, “Don’t drink those in the future. Your tolerance was already poor.”

Jiang Chenyan was suddenly startled awake. He silently turned his head to look at the night scene passing by outside the window, too lazy to acknowledge Jiang Xuan-shen.

Seeing him like this, Jiang Xuan-shen laughed out of extreme anger. “Not seeing you for a few months, your temper has indeed grown larger and larger.”

“…”

It was still complete silence; no one acknowledged him.

The skiff slowly landed. Jiang Chenyan looked out through the porthole and was instantly dumbfounded.

Where was there even a hint of the liveliness of a birthday banquet outside? There was only a solitary villa standing in the night, frighteningly desolate. He didn’t dare to get off the skiff and simply leaned back into the seat, closing his eyes to feign sleep.

Alarm bells rang loudly in his heart. Would a birthday party look like this?

He quietly fished out his communicator, his fingertips rapidly editing messages, sending them separately to Shen Shiyue and Kai Lan.

After a while, Jiang Chenyan deliberately pretended to be woken up by Jiang Xuan-shen and slowly got off the skiff. Just as he landed, his footsteps stopped. “Wait? Is this the right place? How can a birthday banquet be this desolate?”

Jiang Xuan-shen turned his body, his eye color dark and unclear. “What do you think?” As soon as he finished speaking, he suddenly reached out and gripped Jiang Chenyan’s arm with startling force. “You’ll know once you go in and see. There’s a surprise waiting for you inside.”

Sure enough, something was wrong.

Jiang Chenyan’s brows locked tight. He shook off Jiang Xuan-shen’s hand and simultaneously threw a punch toward the other’s face, which Jiang Xuan-shen dodged by turning his body.

His gaze cooled down. “Stop pretending. What kind of underhanded tricks are you playing? Say it now.”

“How can you be so muddled?” Jiang Xuan-shen let out a cold laugh, thinking his younger brother was pitifully stupid. “The doctor who helped you disguise your Alpha identity already confessed. As things stand now, what else do you have to say?”

Jiang Chenyan’s pupils constricted abruptly, and his brain exploded with a bang. What?

System, why not come out and show your face? Tell him all the information first.

“I don’t understand what you’re talking about.” Jiang Chenyan’s brows locked tight. “You should know that I measured an SS+ grade in front of everyone.”

“Mm, I know.”

Jiang Chenyan: “Since you know, why do you still listen to others talking nonsense?”

“It’s not hard to test again, is it?” Jiang Xuan-shen hooked the corner of his mouth in a cold smile, his gaze steeped in ice, every word stabbing at Jiang Chenyan’s soft underbelly. “Or is it that you don’t dare at all, because you already have a guilty conscience?”

Jiang Chenyan clenched his fist. “…”

Right at this moment, the villa door suddenly opened. Father Jiang and Mother Jiang walked out. Mother Jiang looked at the two in a standoff and was the first to ask with a frown: “Chenyan, tell the truth. Are you an Omega or not?”

Jiang Chenyan’s heart sank violently. Before he could respond, Mother Jiang had already stepped forward half a step in her anxiety. “If you are an Omega, how can you stay in the military academy with such an identity? If this is discovered, the consequences would be unimaginable!”

Jiang Chenyan was somewhat irritable. What about being an Omega? What about being an Alpha? Why couldn’t they be treated equally? “I…”

But for the sake of exonerating himself, he still said that sentence: “I am not an Omega.”

Father Jiang’s expression darkened further and further. “You say you’re not, so you’re not? Can the family’s rules and testing results really be outweighed by a single sentence from you?”

Jiang Chenyan met his gaze and nodded seriously. “Mm, yes. If I say I’m not, then I’m not.”

Father Jiang was choked up. “…”

Expressionlessly, Jiang Chenyan raised his hand and opened the terminal on his wrist. The moment the screen lit up, he said: “Whether I have a guilty conscience or not, you’ll know after looking. Let me show you something to prove my innocence.”

His fingertips slid rapidly on the terminal, seemingly retrieving data, but in reality, he quietly switched to the chat interface with Kai Lan and typed a line of information: “Bring that pheromone converter over. Fast. I can’t hold out long on this side.”

Almost instantly, Kai Lan’s reply popped up: “I bloody well wish I could fly over right now!”

Jiang Chenyan’s fingertips slid quickly on the terminal screen, his searching movements deliberately slowing down by a few points. Jiang Xuan-shen’s eyes darkened, and he urged: “You’ve been searching for so long, have you found the evidence?”

“Found it.” He turned the page toward Jiang Xuan-shen. “Actually, my SS+ grade test report is the best proof.”

Jiang Xuan-shen: “…”

Who didn’t know that?

He spent all that time searching just to bring this up.

His gaze changed abruptly, knowing he had been played and that Jiang Chenyan was stalling for time. Before Jiang Chenyan could say anything more, he raised his hand toward the shadows: “Take him.”

Several figures wearing military uniforms walked out from both sides of the villa, surrounding Jiang Chenyan in the center and approaching step by step.

Just as one person’s hand was about to touch Jiang Chenyan’s arm, a cold voice suddenly came from behind the crowd: “Stop.”

Following the sound, Shen Shiyue appeared in everyone’s view. His voice was very cold. “What are you doing?”

At the same time, the engine sound of a skiff landing came from the distance. Kai Lan practically jumped down while stepping on the hatch, walking quickly over and shouting at the surrounding people: “Exactly! What are you all doing surrounding him like this?”

As he spoke, he squeezed to Jiang Chenyan’s side, fished out a small metal box from his pocket, and added a sentence in a lowered voice: “The stuff is brought. Don’t worry.”

Jiang Chenyan nodded: “Thanks.”

“Doing what? Naturally, we are here to find out whether my younger brother is an Omega or not.” Jiang Xuan-shen’s words seemed to be intentionally leaked to Shen Shiyue, each sentence accurately piercing Shen Shiyue. “We can’t just let him keep deceiving people in the military academy with an Alpha identity, can we?”

Once these words were out, Jiang Chenyan’s expression changed, and he met Shen Shiyue’s gaze caught off guard.

Shen Shiyue just quietly looked at him, not speaking. His gaze was as calm as a deep pond, seemingly waiting for a true answer.

Jiang Chenyan knew he had long since “dropped his mask.” Combining that with him saying his pheromone grade was fake before, Shen Shiyue was so sharp; how could he not have guessed?
