Chapter 47: Wanting to Overpower Him — He Stopped Pretending and Went Straight for Him…
“Professor.” Qi Bai’s voice broke the deathly silence of the infirmary. He leaned against the doorframe, his gaze cold enough to pierce through bone as he stared directly at Jiang Chenyan on the hospital bed. “The school leadership wants Student Jiang to come over.”
Jiang Chenyan’s Adam’s apple rolled, but he didn’t speak.
He raised a hand to press against his chest, which still felt slightly tight. Once he confirmed his body was no longer in any serious danger, he nodded. “Alright.”
He tossed aside the quilt and got out of bed. “Let me change my clothes first.”
Seeing the few of them still standing rooted to the spot, Jiang Chenyan’s brow furrowed slightly. “How about you guys step out for a moment?” He had never had a hobby of changing clothes in front of an audience.
Shen Shiyue and Ariel exchanged a look and, with almost no hesitation, stood up and walked toward the door. Qi Bai stood at the entrance, his gaze lingering on Jiang Chenyan for a brief moment. Ultimately, he didn’t say much and followed them out.
The scent of disinfectant in the infirmary drifted into his nose. Jiang Chenyan let out a soft sigh, the tension in his shoulders relaxing slightly. It was only then that he noticed a uniform folded neatly on the bench beside him, looking as if it had been prepared for him long ago.
After changing into the uniform, Jiang Chenyan pushed open the door. He cast a brief glance at Qi Bai and uttered two simple words: “Let’s go.” He could already vaguely guess what this was about.
Qi Bai remained as cold as ever, his entire being wrapped in a layer of frost that wouldn’t melt.
As Shen Shiyue was about to follow, Qi Bai shifted his body to block him. His tone held no fluctuation. “You don’t need to go. They only called for him.”
“Besides, this is the school. Student Shen doesn’t need to worry.”
Shen Shiyue’s expression darkened instantly, his entire aura turning gloomy. Jiang Chenyan even suspected that if Qi Bai provoked him for two more sentences, a punch would probably land on Qi Bai’s face.
Beside them, Ariel rubbed his forehead helplessly and stepped forward to mediate. “Alright, Shen Shiyue. I happen to have something I need to talk to you about.”
Shen Shiyue pursed his lips and said nothing. “…”
Jiang Chenyan sighed helplessly, looked at Shen Shiyue, and comforted him: “Don’t worry, I’ll be right back.” He then leaned in close to Shen Shiyue’s ear, his warm breath brushing against the other’s earlobe as he whispered, “On the Professor’s side, he’s basically one of our own.”
Shen Shiyue nodded. “Okay, I’ll listen to you.” A faint smile tugged at the corner of his mouth as he reached out and gave Jiang Chenyan a gentle hug. The movement was natural but carried a distinct intentionality. “It’s just that since the two of us are together every day, suddenly being separated feels a bit strange.”
As he spoke, he threw a glance at Qi Bai.
Qi Bai’s expression sank. He parted his thin lips and let out a disdainful cold scoff.
Immature as always. Did he really think such a petty trick was worth showing off?
Ariel opened his mouth, but in the end, he swallowed back the words he was about to say. “…”
He understood the thoughts of these few people less and less.
The moment they stepped out the main door, the noon heatwave rushed toward them, accompanied by the chirping of cicadas. Jiang Chenyan stood on the steps. It was currently between classes, and there were many people around. His brow furrowed unconsciously. Since the day he transmigrated into this book, it was as if he had been plagued by bad luck; he hadn’t had a single day of peace.
He followed behind Qi Bai, keeping a half-step distance between them. They were silent the whole way, the only sound being the noise of their shoes hitting the ground.
As they neared the meeting room door, Qi Bai suddenly stopped. He turned back to look at Jiang Chenyan, his gaze deep. “Do you have nothing to say?”
Jiang Chenyan raised his eyes to meet his gaze. After a moment of silence, he shook his head slightly. “Not really.” What was meant to come would come; redundant questioning was merely a futile effort.
However, this Qi Bai person was truly bizarre. Just because of his one sentence, the man’s gaze grew colder and colder, sending a chill straight into Jiang Chenyan’s bones.
A memory of that day suddenly flashed through his mind. During their sparring match, Qi Bai had suddenly grabbed his neck, his knuckles tightening until Jiang Chenyan’s breath was almost completely cut off.
Jiang Chenyan felt a delayed sense of daze: I was the muddled one. Underneath Qi Bai’s aloof exterior, he’s a total pervert through and through.
All three “Gongs” were perverts; there was no doubt about that. It was just that because so many things had been piled up recently, he hadn’t paid much attention to it.
Qi Bai tossed out another cryptic sentence: “I really want to pry open your head and see what’s inside.”
Jiang Chenyan’s Adam’s apple rolled, but he didn’t respond.
He was more or less speechless.
The moment the two entered the meeting room, the air seemed to freeze. The school leaders sitting behind the table had serious expressions as they scrutinized him from head to toe.
The word “scrutinize” was appropriate here; an outsider might think he had committed some sort of crime.
Qi Bai stood to the side. Though his presence was strong, he remained silent, quietly observing the movements in the meeting room.
The Vice Principal in the center pushed his glasses up and went straight to the point: “Student Jiang, it is good to see you are unharmed. We asked you here today primarily to understand the situation regarding the rumors surrounding you.”
An understanding expression appropriately appeared on Jiang Chenyan’s face as he spoke plainly, “I thought it was something major; so it was for this.” He looked up at the assembly. “Teachers, you are all sensible people. You should be able to distinguish that this matter has nothing to do with me. I can only say I was too unlucky to be pointlessly dragged into this storm of public opinion.”
The Vice Principal knit his brows, applying pressure to Jiang Chenyan. “That is the logic, but the fact that your appearance is highly similar to that SS-grade Omega makes it inevitable that the outside world would harbor suspicions.”
Jiang Chenyan raised a hand to his forehead, a helpless, bitter smile curling at his lips. “That’s why I feel so frustrated. However, as far as I know, that SS-grade Omega passed away long ago. Since I am standing right here in perfectly good health, that argument doesn’t really hold water.”
“Yes,” the Vice Principal nodded. “Precisely because of that, we are exceptionally puzzled.”
At this time, a teacher on the side spoke up, her tone softening first: “This matter has indeed caused Student Jiang a lot of trouble. We are also perplexed as to how an Omega could be entangled with an Alpha’s affairs.” Her tone suddenly shifted as she looked at Jiang Chenyan with a smile, “However—during the days the incident occurred, Student Jiang was also on Planet Jinchen, wasn’t he? That is a bit too much of a coincidence.” Finally, she added, “It is precisely because of this point that the outside world’s voices of doubt are so strong, isn’t it?”
Jiang Chenyan lowered his eyes in silence for a moment. When he looked up again, his brow was slightly furrowed. “So that’s how it is. I expected to be suspected, but I didn’t expect so many people to suspect me. I am truly sorry for bringing so much trouble to the school.”
He took a deep breath and said in a low voice: “It seems I must clarify things.”
“Yes. If Student Jiang can clarify things publicly, the effect will be better. After all, your strength and rank are both clear for all to see. The general meaning has been conveyed to you; I hope you won’t let us down.”
The Vice Principal added, “Indeed. You must remember at all times that you are an Alpha. No matter what happens, this point must never change.”
Jiang Chenyan’s fingertips quietly tightened, but his face remained calm. After a moment of silence, he slowly nodded. “I understand.”
“There isn’t really anything else.” The Vice Principal’s tone relaxed as he waved his hand. “Student Jiang may head back first. Remember to prepare well for the upcoming competition; that is very important for you students.”
“A matter of one’s future is naturally of the utmost importance,” another teacher followed with a smile. “We’ve all been through it.”
Jiang Chenyan didn’t respond; he just nodded silently, retreated, and closed the door of the meeting room behind him.
The temperature from inside the room seemed to linger on his fingertips. He was sharp as a mirror; the school suspected him to some extent, yet they were deliberately reminding him that no matter what the truth was, he could only stand before others with the identity of an Alpha.
In other words, he must be an Alpha.
Truly absurd.
He clicked his tongue inwardly, suddenly feeling a bit irritable and wanting a cigarette. Just as he was about to walk away, the door behind him made a click. He turned to see Qi Bai walking out as well.
Qi Bai’s expression was still cold as ice. He only spat out two words from his thin lips: “Stop acting.”
Jiang Chenyan was instantly angered into a laugh. He looked Qi Bai straight in the eye and mocked, “When have I ever been acting? Mind your own business.”
Qi Bai approached Jiang Chenyan step by step, his shadow completely enveloping him.
He looked down at the person before him—still this stubborn look, refusing to soften in the slightest.
Always like this.
A crazed thought sprouted and spread in his heart. He really wanted to completely shatter this hard outer shell to see whether what was hidden inside was softness or something even more blazing and hot.
Jiang Chenyan’s stubbornness was deep in his bones; there was no doubt about that.
In Qi Bai’s mind, the scenes of their fight repeatedly played back. Every block, every counterattack—though it was intense combat, it felt like an invitation that made him unable to resist wanting to step forward, pin him down, and tear him apart.
his gaze darkened abruptly, the undercurrents surging in his eyes almost overflowing. He suddenly reached out and grabbed Jiang Chenyan’s collar, his grip so strong the fabric wrinkled. “Can’t you restrain yourself a bit? Do you have to drive everyone crazy?”
Jiang Chenyan was annoyed by this sudden movement. He raised his hand to pry the other’s hand away. “Are you sick?” Taking advantage of the moment Qi Bai was dazed, he lunged backward, creating distance between them. The warmth from the other’s knuckles still lingered on his collar.
“Haven’t you got it wrong? If anyone’s being driven crazy, it’s me first.”
Jiang Chenyan truly regretted it. If he had known it would be like this, he would have dragged Shen Shiyue to take a detour no matter what, doing his best to stay as far away from the Protagonist Gongs as possible.
He didn’t know if it was too late now…
“Actually, we’ve never been close. There’s no need for you to target me. Let’s just act as if we’ve never met and don’t know each other.”
Jiang Chenyan felt his words made sense. He didn’t notice at all that Qi Bai’s face had darkened enough to drip water, and the chill around him was almost enough to swallow a person whole.
Qi Bai took a step forward with immense force, his fingertips turning white from the exertion. Jiang Chenyan was slammed hard against the cold wall. The moment his back hit the surface, a bone-chilling cold was triggered.
Qi Bai caged him between his arms and the wall, forming an airtight imprisonment. His gaze was icy. “Everything has been turned into a mess by you. What makes you think you can stay out of it?”
Turned into a mess by him? Those words sounded laughable.
Leaning against the cold wall, Jiang Chenyan’s voice turned colder. “It’s not… you’re being really strange.” He took a deep breath. “There is clearly no relationship between us, and I haven’t deliberately provoked you.”
He paused. “Or are you just like Xie Huaijin?”
This sentence was a successful gamble.
The hostility around Qi Bai receded a lot. He quieted down, the emotions in his eyes obscure and difficult to discern.
Dull pain radiated from Jiang Chenyan’s back; he must have been hit hard just now. He didn’t look at Qi Bai again, reaching out to push the man away. “Since you aren’t, then you should stay even further away from me.”
The more he thought about it, the more he felt Qi Bai was wrong—abnormally so. In the early stages, the man could maintain a surface-level coldness and distance, and they could barely manage a normal interaction. But later on, he didn’t even bother to keep up appearances and went straight for him.
Irritation bubbled up in his heart. Seeing that Qi Bai wasn’t stopping him anymore, Jiang Chenyan simply turned and left. He planned to go out of the school gates to buy some things—mainly because cigarettes were banned for sale in the school, so he could only buy them outside.
Staring at Jiang Chenyan’s departing back, Qi Bai’s expression was terrifyingly dark. The chill around him almost froze the air.
He stood in place, his fingertips curling unconsciously. What was wrong with him? The more he couldn’t figure it out, the clearer the thought in his heart became. He wanted to follow his heart, and that was—suppression.
He wanted to suppress Jiang Chenyan.
Jiang Chenyan went straight out of the school gate. He first went to a shop to buy some daily necessities and then bought several portions of hot food, intending to bring them back for Shen Shiyue.
Just as he was about to turn back toward the school, he was suddenly blocked by a middle-aged couple. Both were dressed elegantly; the woman wore an exquisite long dress, but it couldn’t hide the exhaustion in her eyes. Her noble aura was in sharp contrast with her fatigue.
“Are you Student Jiang Chenyan?” the woman spoke first, her tone testing.
Jiang Chenyan hesitated for a moment, then slowly nodded. “Yes.”
“I am Kai Lan’s mother. I want to talk to you.” Her emotions were somewhat out of control as she excitedly grabbed Jiang Chenyan’s arm, as if afraid he would run away. “I know we’ve pushed him too hard these years, but we did it all for his own good. This child is too stubborn; he’s always trying to escape us. But he’s very smart; it’s impossible for him to be dead, right?”
Jiang Chenyan’s brow furrowed. He was more or less at a loss. This couple had specifically come to corner him. “I don’t really understand your words, but if you are talking about Kai Lan, he has indeed passed away. Please accept my condolences.”
“Impossible!” The woman’s emotions instantly became agitated, her voice carrying a sob. “How could you not know? How could he die?!”
Tears rolled down her cheeks. “It was you, wasn’t it?! You called him to Planet Jinchen! He didn’t know many people to begin with, yet he suddenly went to Planet Jinchen, and then something happened!”
The man on the side had a dark expression. He quickly stepped forward to hold his wife’s shoulders, saying apologetically to Jiang Chenyan: “I’m sorry. She’s been under too much pressure lately, and her emotions are a bit out of control…”
“No, it’s not!” The woman violently shook off her husband’s hand, her gaze still fixed on Jiang Chenyan, refusing to let it go.
Her emotions completely collapsed, and she actually knelt directly down, tugging at the corner of Jiang Chenyan’s clothes and pleading bitterly. Jiang Chenyan was completely stunned. He quickly reached out to help her up, but she refused to stand no matter what, just crying incessantly.
Jiang Chenyan cursed inwardly. He didn’t want to make a scene, but people around were stopping to watch, and the sound of pointing and whispering grew louder. They were almost forming a circle.
“What’s going on?”
“Who knows? Not sure.”
“I think I know. Do you want to hear it?”
Jiang Chenyan rubbed his forehead helplessly and whispered to the woman still kneeling on the ground, “There are many eyes and ears here. Let’s find a quiet place to talk properly, alright?”
As he spoke, he warily scanned the gathered crowd. His gaze suddenly paused. Among the shifting silhouettes, he clearly saw Xie Huaijin. The other was standing not far away with his arms crossed, his expression dark and unreadable. Clearly, he had been watching for a long time.
