Chapter 7: Hacking the Whole Forum (Threatened)
It was currently autumn. Sunlight filtered through the sparse branches, casting dappled shadows. The ground was already covered with layers of fallen leaves in various shades.
Cleaning robots shuttled unhurriedly between them, gathering the scattered leaves into small piles.
Jiang Chenyan and Shen Shiyue stepped onto the fallen leaves, the sound of crunching under their feet echoing from time to time. They didn’t stay long and soon returned to the dormitory.
The afternoon notice said there were no classes. Jiang Chenyan leaned back in his swivel chair. His fingertips hovered over the optical computer’s virtual keyboard for two seconds before he finally clicked the familiar forum icon.
He stared at the loading page, hesitating.
Did I really want to hack the forum the school has been running for years?
Before he could clear his thoughts, a pinned “hot” thread caught his eye. The title read: [URGENT REMINDER!! SOMEONE IS TRYING TO HACK THE FORUM!!]
Clicking in, the comment section was already a sea of laughter:
[Hahaha, hacking the forum? This is the best joke I’ve heard all year.]
[Pardon me for asking, but who is so bold?]
[Done. Last time, the second runner-up of the Imperial Hacker Competition came to provoke them, and the administrator pinned him on the front page for public shaming for a week.]
[Why do I suddenly feel a bit expectant? If it actually happens, I’ll handwrite the school rules a hundred times.]
[The person upstairs, I know who wants to hack the forum: Jiang Chenyan.]
As soon as these words appeared, the comment section exploded, with everyone wishing they could blast Jiang Chenyan into oblivion.
[Holy shit! Is he crazy, or am I crazy??]
[I think heâs crazy (dog head).]
Jiang Chenyanâs finger tapped lightly on the cool casing of the optical computer. He closed the hot thread and pulled up the hidden code interface. His previous hesitation vanished completely.
He made a blind guess that the posters were the two sitting behind him in class.
He picked a random comment and nonchalantly typed a line under the mocking post: “Mm, it’s about time it got hacked.”
The moment the comment was posted, it was buried by the surging waves of mockery and jokes.
Jiang Chenyan clicked his tongue. His fingertips began to dance rapidly across the optical computer. The data stream in the backend began to surge quietly. Since no one believed him, he might as well add some seasoning.
A shadow suddenly loomed over him from behind. Shen Shiyue had walked over at some point. His gaze fell on the hot thread on the screen. He asked flatly, “Is it hard?”
His hands rested casually on the arms of the chair, his posture relaxed, yet he circled a small space around Jiang Chenyanâas if half-holding him in his arms.
Jiang Chenyan sat still. Shen Shiyue’s warm breath brushed against his neck from time to time; it was a bit itchy.
Shen Shiyue lowered his head slightly. His gaze happened to fall on the other’s fair neck. The collar half-hid it, but he could vaguely see the pale blue veins beneath the delicate skin, glistening in the light.
“Itâs not hard. Do you trust me?” Jiang Chenyan turned his head to look at him, a smile hooking his lips.
Shen Shiyue’s gaze moved from his neck to his face. “I trust you.”
Jiang Chenyan’s fingertips paused for a moment, his smile deepening. The code under his hands flowed even faster.
…
The dormitory corridor was relatively empty; there were hardly any people. Footsteps produced a light echo.
Qi Bai was leading two people for a room inspection. He stopped in front of a door and instructed the two behind him, “You go inspect the other dorms. I have something to say to these two.”
“Alright.” The two responded and turned to go elsewhere.
The light sound of the electronic lock was exceptionally clear in the silence. Qi Bai pushed the door open and entered.
Inside the dorm, Xie Huaijin and Mu Si’an looked up at him simultaneously.
Mu Si’an raised an eyebrow, a somewhat wicked smile hooking his lips. He shook the optical computer screen in his hand. “Come look. Someone says Jiang Chenyan is going to hack the forum.”
As if afraid Qi Bai wouldn’t make the connection, Mu Si’an added, “The one who wore the mask and made Xie Huaijin unhappy.”
“I know.” Qi Bai’s voice was devoid of warmth, cold as if quenched in ice.
Mu Si’an let out a low laugh from the side. “I thought you didn’t know. After all, you usually can’t be bothered to care about anyone.”
Qi Bai didn’t respond to that. His gaze fell on the screen as he asked directly, “He’s hacking the forum?”
“Is he ever?” Xie Huaijin said sarcastically. “Purely overestimating himself.”
The abuse and mockery in the comment section grew more intense, each sentence more biting than the last. The popularity showed no sign of fading.
Qi Bai frowned and warned the two, “Don’t play too excessively.”
Xie Huaijin didn’t care. He leaned back in his chair, long legs crossed over the edge of the desk. He tapped the tabletop, a flash of interest in his eyes. “How could I? Don’t you think this Jiang Chenyan is quite interesting?”
“The guy is hiding a streak of stubbornness. I want to see what kind of tricks he can pull off.”
[It’s been so long and the forum is still fine. Is Jiang Chenyan getting scared? Hilarious. Can’t take back the brag he blew?]
[I told you, he doesn’t dare do it for real. Heâs just talking big.]
…
Xie Huaijin scrolled through the screen, looking at the mocking comments. He turned to ask Qi Bai, “Do you think he can do it?”
Qi Bai didn’t answer.
“I think it’s unlikely.” Xie Huaijin sneered. “Most likely just flapping his lips.”
He had investigated Jiang Chenyan. The guy had never studied anything related to the Star Network. Hacking the military academy’s forum was simply a fantasy.
Mu Si’an shook his head slightly. He tapped the edge of his optical computer, the corners of his eyes crinkling with a smile. “I wouldn’t be so sure.”
“Why don’t we make a bet?”
Xie Huaijin thought Mu Si’an was childish. “Is there any point? It’s a waste ofâ”
The word “time” was stuck in his throat. The optical computer screen in front of him suddenly went dark.
Not just hisâMu Si’an’s optical computer in the dorm also went pitch black at the same time.
The forum had collapsed.
In the corridor, vague cries of surprise and the sound of chairs dragging could be heard one after another.
The door wasn’t fully closed. They heard someone in another dorm shout loudly, “Holy shit! It actually got hacked!”
Xie Huaijin maintained his previous posture, the mockery on his face frozen.
Mu Si’an raised an eyebrow and looked at Qi Bai.
Qi Bai stared down at his blacked-out device, his fingers unconsciously tightening. The entire screen had gone black so fast it was almost like an illusion.
And on the other end of the forum, countless drama-seekers were completely dumbfounded as they stared at their black screens.
Wait?! It’s really hacked??
In less than a day, it was hacked just like that?!
“I swear, this speed… I’m starting to suspect he’s some top-tier hacker living in hiding!” someone muttered to their screen, full of disbelief.
“I was just mocking him, now I’m shutting up…”
“The problem is, what about the forum? Is it just going to stay black? Are our saved posts and private messages still there? Can the administrators handle this?”
“How would I know? Go ask Jiang Chenyan.”
That person shut up. “…”
…
Xie Huaijin clenched his fist, feeling a wave of unexplainable irritation. “He really has the spare time to mess with this.” The image of Jiang Chenyan’s faceâhalf-hidden by a mask, leaving only those cool eyesâsuddenly flashed through his mind, glaring at him.
His heart tightened for a moment, but it vanished instantly.
He turned to look at Qi Bai. “Chairman Qi, what now? We can’t let the forum stay paralyzed forever.”
“Maliciously attacking the campus forum? Thatâs a demerit according to school rules.” Mu Si’an smiled with ill intent.
Qi Bai quickly pulled up a contact on his optical computer, his voice still icy. “I’m going to notify him now.”
Xie Huaijin and Mu Si’an didn’t speak again for a moment. Qi Bai’s back gradually disappeared at the door. The dorm fell silent for a few seconds. Only the black screen reflecting the light from the window made the room feel a bit cold.
Mu Si’an leaned back, a meaningful smile on his lips.
This play was becoming even more interesting than imagined.
…
After hacking the forum, Jiang Chenyan cleanly turned off his optical computer and let out a yawn. “A bit sleepy. Want to take a nap.”
Shen Shiyue: “Mm. Go ahead.”
Jiang Chenyan took off his shoes and burrowed into the bed, pulling the covers up. He curled into a ball, not taking the hacking incident seriously at all.
In his mind, the System was excitedly bubbling:
[Host, holy shit! Showing your sharp edges! I’m impressed, truly impressed!]
Jiang Chenyan replied lazily: [Mm.]
[Aren’t you afraid the commotion will be too big and bring trouble? What if they get worked up and tear you to pieces?]
[What’s there to be afraid of?]
Jiang Chenyan’s muffled voice came from the bedding. He thought about maybe playing a few games to help him fall asleep.
Just as he was considering it, the optical computer vibrated. An anonymous email lay quietly in his inbox.
Jiang Chenyan’s brow furrowed slightly. He opened the email with a hint of confusion.
He froze the moment he scanned the contents.
The text on the screen was sharp and jarring:
[I know youâre an Omega. I have a pheromone converter that can help you briefly disguise yourself as an Alpha. If you want it, come to the back wall of the West Teaching Building.]
Jiang Chenyan grew irritable.
The other party not only knew his identity but also accurately pinpointed his needs.
…Was it a trap, or a turning point?
He remained silent, his fingers unconsciously tightening.
The System also saw the email: [Host, what do you plan to do?]
“What do you want me to do?”
The System let out two awkward laughs: [Host, are you testing me?]
“Letâs follow the plot like you said.”
Before the System could understand what Jiang Chenyan meant, he had already thrown back the covers and gotten out of bed.
When he walked past Shen Shiyue, he said, “I’m heading out for a bit. I have something to do.”
Shen Shiyue looked up at him. He didn’t ask much, only responding flatly, “Mm. Come back early.”
Jiang Chenyan nodded, grabbed his coat, and threw it on. In his mind, the System was still questioning: [Host, are you really going? What if it’s a trap?] Jiang Chenyan didn’t respond and walked out the door.
Since the plot had knocked on his door, there was no reason to retreat. He would take on whatever came.
When he arrived, Jiang Chenyan found the area near the back wall of the West Teaching Building exceptionally hidden. There was hardly anyone around. It seemed the person who invited him knew the school’s structure well.
His gaze swept across the surroundings as he spoke coldly, “Who exactly are you?”
A slightly hoarse voice came from the other side of the wall. “The Omega who accidentally went into heat on the day of the pheromone level test.”
Jiang Chenyan was stunned. His memory was instantly pulled back to the chaotic scene of that day. “Itâs you? Why are you helping me?”
“An O helping an O. Is there a problem?” the other person chuckled softly, then urged, “Don’t dawdle. This pheromone converter is something I modified myself. Last time was a mistake. Look down at your feetâthereâs a hole in the grass. The stuff is hidden there.”
Following the instructions, Jiang Chenyan leaned down and indeed found a wall-hole covered by leaves in the thick grass. His fingers touched a needle-shaped syringe.
He gripped the syringe in his hand. “How did you know I’m an Omega?”
The person on the other side of the wall laughed. “By your eyes, don’t you get it? We locked eyes back then. The way you looked at me… what was in your eyes was completely different from how those Alphas looked at me.”
Jiang Chenyan was momentarily speechless, remaining silent for a few seconds.
Feeling the cool sensation of the bottle with his fingertips, he finally whispered, “Thank you.” No matter the reason, the other party had taken a huge risk.
“What’s there to thank?” The voice on the other side grew lighter and hurried. “I’m leaving. This place isn’t safe. You should head back too. Remember, the converter lasts for one day. Good luck.”
Jiang Chenyan gripped the small bottle tightly and responded to the corner of the wall, “Alright.”
He turned to walk back. Sunlight filtered through the gaps in the leaves and fell on him. The System hadn’t expected the plot to develop this way: [Are you going to use it?]
“Of course.”
Just as he walked around the corner, he bumped straight into a cool figure. Qi Bai was standing not far away, his gaze falling on him. His voice was icy. “Where have you been?” He had gone to the dorm to find Jiang Chenyan, only to find him missing. He asked Shen Shiyue, but the other wouldn’t say, so he had to check the surveillance and follow the path here.
Jiang Chenyanâs brow was tightly knit. Before he could respond, he saw Qi Baiâs gaze fix on his bulging pocket. “What’s in your clothes?”
Jiang Chenyan instinctively took a step back.
Qi Bai’s height of nearly 1.9 meters brought a powerful sense of oppression. Seeing him retreat, Qi Bai pressed forward, his shadow almost completely enveloping Jiang Chenyan.
His voice grew even colder as he commanded, “Take it out.”
