Chapter 103: Make You Call Me Brother (23)
Xiao Ji didn’t stay abroad for two years for nothing, nor was the exorbitant medical fee spent in vain.
Both his glands and his body had been nurtured to be very robust.
As the doctor said, Xiao Ji’s differentiation went smoothly. After being observed in the hospital for one night, he was approved for discharge and went with Gu Yinnian to see Chen Lan off at the airport.
“I’ve spoken to your counselor and said your situation is special, asking her to move you to your brother’s dorm suite.”
“Take care of yourself. If you need anything, order your brother around. Don’t get too tired. Call home more often when you have time; your Uncle Gu and I miss you a lot.”
Chen Lan wouldn’t dare run abroad alone due to the language barrier, but Old Gu had visited Xiao Ji several times over the past two years.
This was the first time she had seen Xiao Ji since he left and returned.
Seeing that the little bean sprout she brought home back then was now a head taller than her, Chen Lan was filled with mixed emotions.
Xiao Ji could say suggestive things to Gu Yinnian because they had known each other for a long time and their relationship was special.
With Chen Lan, he remained a man of few words, but he could feel her affection for him.
Looking at Chen Lan’s face, which clearly showed the marks of time compared to when they first met over a decade ago, Xiao Ji suddenly felt a pang of reluctance to part.
He bent down and hugged Chen Lan, whispering softly, “I know, Mom.”
Chen Lan was stunned at first, then she patted Xiao Ji’s back as if she hadn’t heard what he called her, pushing him away.
“Alright, go back quickly. I’m running out of time. I’m leaving now.”
With that, she didn’t even bother speaking to Gu Yinnian. She turned and entered the departure hall.
Then she dialed Father Gu’s number, her nose stinging as tears began to patter down.
Chen Lan’s crying scared Father Gu, who was busy working overtime, out of his wits.
“What’s wrong? Didn’t you say the differentiation went smoothly last night and he was discharged today?”
Chen Lan suddenly laughed, wiping her tears.
“Old Gu, guess what?”
Father Gu was sweating from her outburst.
“Hurry up and say it. If I need to go over there, I have to ask for leave as soon as I finish this.”
Chen Lan sniffled. “Xiao Ji called me Mom…”
“He rarely called home these past two years. I thought he was going to forget me.”
…
“She clearly forgot about me.”
Back at school, standing at the entrance of Dorm Building 7, Gu Yinnian suddenly remembered this and said to Xiao Ji.
Not only did Chen Lan not say goodbye to Gu Yinnian, but after boarding the plane, she sent a message to Xiao Ji.
Xiao Ji said calmly, “It doesn’t matter. My mom is your mom. It’s the same.”
“Thanks, I feel comforted,” Gu Yinnian replied.
After waiting for the counselor to call and confirm the dorm arrangements, they registered at the Building 7 gatehouse and went upstairs to pack Xiao Ji’s luggage.
Everyone else was still in military training at this time, so Song Zhi wasn’t in the dorm. Xiao Ji’s things were overly tidy and easy to pack. Within half an hour, they carried the two huge suitcases out and moved to Gu Yinnian’s dorm.
The Alpha who swapped dorms wasn’t Lin Mo, but Ren Jin’s roommate.
When Xiao Ji entered the room and saw the trash-filled bin, the unmade bed, and a bucket piled high with unwashed clothes, he felt a bit suffocated.
Besides that, the air was filled with the faint smell of insecticide—obviously not real insecticide, but the scent of an Alpha’s pheromones.
After training ended at noon, Ren Jin returned to find Xiao Ji sitting motionless on the living room sofa and a murderous Gu Yinnian.
He shuddered instinctively and tried to hide in his room.
Before he reached the door, Gu Yinnian stopped him. “Stand there.”
Ren Jin paused and chuckled. “Brother Nian.”
As he spoke, his eyes swept over Xiao Ji. He wanted to ask something but didn’t dare.
Gu Yinnian spoke directly, “Twenty minutes. Clean up your room.”
Ren Jin paused. “No, Brother Nian, my room doesn’t hinder you in any way.”
Gu Yinnian looked at him and sneered. “Ren Pu, I’m not negotiating with you.”
Ren Jin opened his mouth, seemingly wanting to correct him, but perhaps lacking enough courage, he accepted the name Gu Yinnian bestowed upon him and agreed reluctantly. He went into the room and started cleaning furiously.
Twenty minutes later, Gu Yinnian went in to inspect. After confirming that Ren Jin was just lazy and not incapable of cleaning, he waved to Xiao Ji.
“Go ahead. Need my help?”
Xiao Ji shook his head, pushed the two suitcases into the room, and said to Gu Yinnian, “Go sleep. You have training this afternoon.”
Gu Yinnian knew Xiao Ji’s capability, so he didn’t insist. He told Xiao Ji to call him if anything happened and returned to his own room. Before leaving, he gave Ren Jin a warning look.
Xiao Ji entered the bedroom, closed the door behind him, and began to silently organize his things again.
Looking at Xiao Ji, Ren Jin remembered the incident in the opposite dorm area two nights ago and Gu Yinnian’s absence for the past two days. He realized that the person who suddenly differentiated in the Beta dorms was Xiao Ji.
Just because he was afraid of Gu Yinnian didn’t mean he was afraid of Xiao Ji.
Now that Gu Yinnian wasn’t there, he became a bit looser when speaking to Xiao Ji.
“Bro, with your looks, if you were going to differentiate, shouldn’t you have become an Omega? With a face like that, what kind of Alpha are you differentiating into?”
Xiao Ji hadn’t felt much before and didn’t understand how obvious the difference between ABO genders was.
But now that he had truly differentiated into an Alpha, he suddenly had a profound understanding of Gu Yinnian’s past dominance and intolerance of others.
Alphas were like territorial beasts. It was difficult to be too close to other same-sex individuals without generating physiological hostility.
Those Alphas who were emotionally stable and inclusive were mostly not born that way, but tempered day after day in school and society.
This territorial consciousness, possessiveness, and desire for control were inextricably linked to the Alpha’s gene rank.
At this moment, Xiao Ji felt that Ren Jin merely breathing the air was an invasion of the resources that belonged to him.
Not to mention Ren Jin was standing here, occupying his territory, and making noise.
Xiao Ji sat at the desk, stopped organizing his books, and looked up at him.
The dissatisfaction in his gaze was undisguised, but he didn’t speak to Ren Jin.
Ren Jin wasn’t exactly evil at heart, but he had a personality that made him universally disliked—a bit of a bully to the weak but fearful of the strong, with no filter on his mouth, and a love for provoking people.
Seeing Xiao Ji ignore him, he reached out and picked up a metal letter plate Xiao Ji had placed on the desk, clicking his tongue annoyingly.
“GYN? Gou Yin Ni (Seducing you)? Gong Yuan Nei (Inside the park)? Hey, Xiao Ji, psychologically, are you actually an Omega?”
Xiao Ji reached out, took back his metal plate, pulled out an alcohol wipe, and cleaned it inside and out. With lowered eyes, he said to Ren Jin:
“First, don’t touch my things. Second, don’t come near me. Third, don’t talk to me.”
Ren Jin narrowed his eyes at Xiao Ji. “Are you relying on your good relationship with Gu Yinnian to put on airs and push me around?”
Xiao Ji looked up, met his gaze, his expression unchanged.
“No. I am kindly warning you: don’t provoke me.”
