Chapter 115: The Alter Ego Says He Loves Me (Part IV)
The group followed the nurse’s footsteps deep into the corridor. When they reached the stairs, Xiao Yinnian asked:
“Are we not taking the elevator?”
The nurse turned back to look at Xiao Yinnian, curling her lips at him:
“The elevator is strictly for medical staff and critically ill patients. General patients, please do not ride the elevator privately.”
The group followed the nurse up to the fourth floor. Under the inpatient department sign, the nurse stopped:
“Wishing everyone a speedy recovery.”
With that, she turned and walked to the elevator door, pressed the button, and walked inside. Until the elevator doors closed, she kept her back to the group and never turned around again.
Du Lin watched the elevator slowly descend, walked to the ward doors, pushed them open, and took a look:
“Two people per room. Allocate yourselves.”
As soon as his voice fell, Wang Ran whispered: “Brother Du, can I stay with you?”
Du Lin seemed indifferent. He nodded without saying anything.
Jin Can’s gaze fell on Xiao Yinnian.
Xiao Ji suddenly appeared and said to Xiao Yinnian: “Stay with Lin Chuan.”
Hearing this, Xiao Yinnian didn’t hesitate. He looked at Lin Chuan and, before Jin Can could speak, extended an invitation to him:
“Partner up?”
Lin Chuan seemed a bit surprised, but for some reason, he always felt that Xiao Yinnian looked familiar and friendly, so he agreed:
“Sure.”
Seeing this, Jin Can rolled her eyes and reached out to put an arm around Zhao Xiaoyu’s shoulders: “Stay with big sister? Big sister will protect you.”
Zhao Xiaoyu nodded hastily.
Thus, the fat man was left all alone.
No one paid attention to him. Everyone picked a nearby ward and walked in.
Xiao Yinnian closed the door, locked it backhandedly, and looked at Lin Chuan:
“You’re not a newcomer.”
Lin Chuan suddenly laughed: “Such sharp eyes? Very few newcomers are as calm as you.”
Xiao Yinnian smiled bitterly: “Since we’re here, we might as well f*cking settle down.”
As he spoke, he walked to the wardrobe in the ward and opened the door. Sure enough, he saw two sets of hospital gowns.
He picked up the clothes and smelled them. They carried a mixed scent of laundry detergent and disinfectant and looked very clean.
Just as he was about to change out of his bathrobe in front of Lin Chuan, he heard Xiao Ji say:
“Make him go out.”
Xiao Yinnian was stunned: “We’re both men, what are you afraid of?”
Xiao Ji didn’t speak.
Although Xiao Yinnian felt that this alter ego of his was quite demanding, out of respect for his body-sharing partner, he still said to Lin Chuan:
“I want to change clothes. Could I trouble you to step out for a moment?”
Lin Chuan shrugged, didn’t ask further, and turned to walk out.
While changing, Xiao Yinnian asked Xiao Ji:
“Why stay with him?”
Xiao Ji didn’t explain much: “Trust me. I will protect you.”
Xiao Yinnian was puzzled: “But I want you to disappear.”
Xiao Ji said faintly: “We’ll talk about that when your points are enough. Before then, if you die, I will die too.”
Xiao Yinnian understood this point well.
He also felt that Xiao Ji didn’t want to die. He would probably help him and then negotiate terms with him.
After changing clothes, Xiao Yinnian was just about to call Lin Chuan in when an eerie bell rang in the hospital corridor, much like the school bell from his childhood town.
He opened the door and asked Lin Chuan: “What’s going on?”
Lin Chuan pointed to the wall clock at the end of the corridor: “Six o’clock. It’s time for dinner.”
Hearing this, Xiao Yinnian immediately raised his leg and walked towards the stairs they had come from.
Lin Chuan followed behind him: “Do you know where the cafeteria is?”
Xiao Yinnian looked back at him:
“There was a directory posted on the pillar in the first-floor lobby. It’s on the south side of the second floor.”
Lin Chuan and Xiao Yinnian arrived at the cafeteria first.
There were quite a few patients in hospital gowns lined up in front of the food windows, and many people were already sitting at the dining tables.
Xiao Yinnian and Lin Chuan followed the patients in front of them, picked up metal trays, queued up, got their food from the window, and found an empty table. Just as they sat down, Du Lin and the others walked in as well.
“You two are fast. Why aren’t you eating?”
Du Lin also brought his food, sat down, and asked seemingly casually.
Lin Chuan didn’t speak. Xiao Yinnian glanced at him:
“Just arrived, feeling uneasy. No appetite.”
The rest of the people began to sit around this long table one after another.
But without exception, no one touched their chopsticks.
It wasn’t until the fat man, the last to arrive, sat at the table, picked up a piece of fatty braised pork, and shoved it into his mouth.
Everyone’s gaze instantly fell on the fat man.
Seeing this, the fat man was clueless: “What are you looking at me for? If you’re not hungry, I am.”
At the same time, an unfamiliar nurse walked up to the group, holding a metal tray, head down, distributing pre-sorted medicine to each person.
When she reached the fat man, the nurse’s hand paused. Her head didn’t move, only her eyes rolled to fix her gaze on the fat man’s face:
“If you haven’t taken your medicine, you cannot eat. Why is this patient being disobedient?”
Cold sweat instantly broke out on the fat man’s forehead.
He immediately stood up from his seat, ran to a nearby trash can, stuck a finger down his throat, and began inducing vomiting.
Unfortunately, by the time he returned, the nurse distributing the medicine was already gone.
Panicked, he wiped his hands on his pants and looked at Du Lin:
“I threw it up. I didn’t eat it. I should be fine, right?”
Du Lin shook his head: “Sorry, I can’t say.”
The fat man looked at Jin Can and repeated the question.
Jin Can kept her mouth shut.
Seeing this, the fat man looked left and right, and started cursing:
“You all remembered, you all didn’t eat, why didn’t you remind me?!”
No one spoke.
But equally, no one touched the medicine placed in front of them.
The fat man looked at Lin Chuan, who was closest to him. Suddenly, he picked up a spoon, scooped up some rice, pinched Lin Chuan’s cheeks, and tried to force the rice into Lin Chuan’s mouth.
Xiao Yinnian didn’t consider himself a saint. He knew that in this situation, standing by coldly was the best choice.
If it had been anyone else suffering, he would definitely have done so.
But for some unknown reason, facing Lin Chuan, he felt unable to just stand by.
However, the fat man in front of him had clearly gone berserk. Xiao Yinnian had no confidence in subduing such a burly man, so in a flash of inspiration, he shouted in his mind:
“Ah Ji.”
The next second, Xiao Ji seized control of the body. He grabbed the meal tray in front of him, food and all, and slammed it right into the fat man’s face.
Before the tray could even fall, he raised his leg, stepped over the top of Lin Chuan’s head, and kicked the bottom of the tray that was still stuck to the fat man’s face.
The fat man fell backward onto the ground with a muffled groan.
But Xiao Ji forgot one thing.
They were wearing slippers.
Lin Chuan, who had narrowly avoided a mouthful of forced rice, coughed in terror. After a long while, looking shaken, he stared at the slipper that had landed in his meal tray and said to Xiao Ji:
“Thanks, bro.”
Control of the body returned to Xiao Yinnian once again.
Xiao Yinnian felt that when Xiao Ji exerted force just now, his leg was lifted a bit too high.
He first casually said “no problem,” then picked his slipper out of Lin Chuan’s tray, pulled two tissues to wipe the sole, and put it back on his foot.
Sitting back down, he stealthily rubbed his upper thigh and said to Xiao Ji:
“You f*cking pulled my balls.”
