Chapter 124: The Alter Ego Says He Loves Me (Part XIII)
In this world, the rules were actually not complicated.
The NPC said two nurses could move to the staff dorms, which meant only two nurses could move over.
As long as Zhao Xiaoyu claimed a bed in the staff dorms one step ahead of Wang Ran, Wang Ran became the extra person.
As for what happened between her and Wang Ran, and why Wang Ran allowed Zhao Xiaoyu to snatch her bed, that remained unknown.
Besides, for those still alive, this point wasn’t all that important right now.
“So, what exactly is this piece of paper you gave me?”
Jin Can looked at Xiao Yinnian, circling the topic back to the beginning.
Xiao Yinnian said:
“It’s the brain examination report of the ward-rounding doctor. I found a group photo of all the medical staff in the doctor’s office. Right now I have some speculations, but if I want to confirm them, I still need some data.”
“Currently, there are no relevant clues in the doctor’s office. We need to figure out a way to make a trip to the director’s office.”
Jin Can’s brow twitched:
“The director’s office is on the same floor as the staff dorms. I observed it yesterday; there are always NPCs wandering back and forth around there. If caught, the consequences would be unimaginable.”
If all the nurses mobilized at once, it would be truly difficult to escape.
Xiao Yinnian pursed his lips: “Can you go in?”
Jin Can shook her head: “Ordinary nurses are not allowed to freely enter and exit the director’s office; only the head nurse and doctors can.”
Xiao Yinnian pondered for a moment: “If you put it that way, the only loophole is probably the priest’s baptism.”
The hospital’s entire medical staff and all the patients had to be present for the priest’s baptism.
Even if some medical staff stayed behind, acting would be much more convenient then.
The greatest risk was that they wouldn’t be able to finish what they needed to do before the baptism ended.
Having made their decision, for the next few days, the three of them followed the hospital’s regulations and proceeded step by step.
During this time, Xiao Yinnian asked Jin Can if she actually already had a chance to leave.
Jin Can only said: “The exit should be in the elevator, but I didn’t dare take the risk alone.”
As for whether the truth was that she didn’t dare, didn’t want to, or had other plans, neither Xiao Yinnian nor Lin Chuan asked further.
The priest’s baptism arrived as scheduled.
Early in the morning, nurses called roll at the entrance of the inpatient department. After seeing everyone assembled, they turned and led all the patients of the inpatient department toward the hospital’s church.
Midway there, Xiao Yinnian gave Lin Chuan a look, and Lin Chuan suddenly fell straight back, pretending to pass out.
Jin Can and another NPC nurse carried Lin Chuan away together.
Amidst the chaos, Xiao Yinnian relinquished control of the body.
Xiao Ji took the opportunity to slip away. With wind beneath his feet, he bounded up three to five stairs at a time, sprinting toward the floor where the staff dorms were located.
By the time Du Lin realized that all three of them were missing, all the patients had already stepped out of the hospital gates under the nurses’ lead.
Xiao Ji headed straight for the director’s office. The door was locked, so Xiao Ji casually found an axe in one of the nurses’ dorm rooms.
With one swing of the axe, he cleaved open the office door.
The director’s office was very clean. At a glance, there were no useful clues whatsoever, but in the corner of the wall sat a safe.
The safe was already unlocked, and some documents were scattered inside.
“Someone beat us to it,” Xiao Yinnian whispered to Xiao Ji from within the body.
Xiao Ji was already mentally prepared for this:
“It should be Zhao Xiaoyu.”
Jin Can had said that Zhao Xiaoyu had been to the director’s office.
He picked up the pile of documents and flipped through them. Sure enough, they were all medical records.
And the black-and-white portraits printed on these medical records evidently overlapped heavily with the staff in the medical group photo seen previously in the doctor’s office.
From the current director, to the ward-rounding doctor, to every single nurse in the hospital—all of them suffered from mental illnesses.
Previously, when Jin Can showed that report to the nurse, the nurse hadn’t known the data belonged to the ward-rounding doctor. That phrase “It’s a good seedling” undoubtedly meant that the owner of the report was sick and was a good seedling who could join their team.
Xiao Yinnian looked at the faces on those medical records—all of them medical staff in white coats who had appeared before them countless times over the past few days. Even without control of his body, he still felt a chilling sensation running down his spine.
“If all the medical staff here are actually patients, then what about the patients here? Where are the real doctors and nurses?”
Xiao Yinnian asked.
Xiao Ji calmly placed the documents back into the safe:
“The patient Lin Chuan bumped into at the doctor’s office door earlier had already explained this issue. It’s just that under the circumstances at the time, no one would believe him.”
“Therefore, there is a rule here that unfamiliar patients are not allowed to communicate with each other.”
“As for the real doctors and nurses, we should be able to find out where they are right away.”
As soon as Xiao Ji finished speaking, the office door behind him was pushed open with a creak.
Xiao Ji turned around and saw Zhao Xiaoyu standing outside the door.
“Good morning,” Xiao Ji said calmly.
When faced with Xiao Ji’s direct stare, Zhao Xiaoyu subconsciously broke out in goosebumps.
“You shouldn’t be here,” Zhao Xiaoyu said to Xiao Ji, her voice still carrying a hint of unconcealable trembling.
While maintaining eye contact with Xiao Ji, she suddenly charged forward without warning, drawing a short knife from behind her back.
Xiao Ji dodged Zhao Xiaoyu’s reckless attack with a slight sidestep, grabbed her arm, and dislocated her wrist.
Catching the short knife that slipped from Zhao Xiaoyu’s grasp and nearly fell to the floor, Xiao Ji spun it a few times in his hand and said faintly:
“I should go blow up your ancestral graves.”
A silver whistle hung in front of Zhao Xiaoyu’s chest.
Seeing things go south, she fought through the pain in her wrist, grabbed the whistle with her other hand, and tried to shove it into her mouth.
Unfortunately, she wasn’t fast enough. Xiao Ji flipped her onto the floor, stepped on her chest—whistle and all—and looked down at her:
“The director’s wife isn’t Wang Ran; it’s you. If my guess is correct, your mission should be to stop us from discovering the sanatorium’s secret.”
That was why she wanted to use Wang Ran’s hands to eliminate Xiao Yinnian and Lin Chuan.
Too bad Zhao Xiaoyu wasn’t smart enough, and her execution wasn’t clean enough either.
Xiao Ji didn’t expect to get an answer from Zhao Xiaoyu.
He only asked one more question: “How did you brainwash Wang Ran?”
Zhao Xiaoyu was indeed a newcomer; she was crying.
Even at a time like this, after realizing she couldn’t handle Xiao Ji at all, she still tried to apologize to him to save her own life.
“I’m sorry… but I had no choice. I drew this identity. If the hospital’s secret is exposed, I’ll die…”
Xiao Ji found listening to people crying and sniveling the most annoying.
Everyone had to take responsibility for their own actions and the stances they chose.
Hearing Zhao Xiaoyu start to cry, Xiao Ji completely lost interest in the matter concerning Wang Ran.
Just in case, he wouldn’t deal a lethal blow to a fellow participant in this place.
But that didn’t stop him from picking up a bottle of unknown medicine from the director’s desk, pinching Zhao Xiaoyu’s cheeks, and pouring the entire bottle of medicine down her throat.
