Chapter 16: The Small-Time Star and His Short-Tempered Sugar Daddy (Part XVI)
Xiao Ji didn’t intend to make Fang Yinnian miserable from the bottom of his heart.
The people involved in this matter, besides himself, were Cheng Nuo.
He had ignited Fang Yinnian’s anger, and that final sentence—which sounded like he was giving up on Fang Yinnian—was calculated to hit Fang Yinnian’s soft spot. It ensured that Fang Yinnian couldn’t vent his anger on Xiao Ji, forcing him to redirect that fury toward Cheng Nuo.
If Xiao Ji wasn’t angry at Fang Yinnian, then he must be angry at Cheng Nuo.
The implication was clear: if Cheng Nuo hadn’t disregarded Fang Yinnian’s authority and laid hands on Xiao Ji whenever he pleased, today’s conflict wouldn’t exist.
Who was Fang Yinnian?
He had been pampered and held aloft his entire life. This was the first time he had met a stubborn mule like Xiao Ji, and the first time he had kept a lover. If he really let Xiao Ji dump him just like that, where would he put his face?
Fang Yinnian ground his teeth and suddenly gripped Xiao Ji’s chin.
“Do you have the self-awareness of a lover? Telling me ‘forget it’? Let me tell you, Xiao Ji, as long as you aren’t dead, you will stay right here by my side obediently.”
“And if one day you do die, I promise to arrange your funeral beautifully and gloriously. I won’t shortchange you.”
Xiao Ji was very satisfied with Fang Yinnian’s attitude. “Then kill me. I don’t want to live right now anyway.”
Fang Yinnian really wanted to strangle Xiao Ji.
He constantly repeated in his mind: I chose this. I chose this. I chose this.
A minute later, he barely managed to calm his mood. “I’ll get justice for you. Stop being angry with me, alright?”
At this moment, Fang Yinnian felt incredibly aggrieved. He had paid such a high price to keep such a creature.
The man had zero awareness of being a lover. Once his temper flared up, he looked like he was ready to die.
He was harder to serve than the King of Heaven.
But that sentence was exactly what Xiao Ji wanted.
He wanted to watch Fang Yinnian and Cheng Nuo fight.
No matter the relationship, it couldn’t withstand the drama of “you fought with me for his sake.”
He lowered his eyes and gave Fang Yinnian one final push.
“No need. You’ve been good brothers for more than a decade. It’s not worth it for my sake. Besides, I don’t think you could actually bring yourself to hurt him.”
With that, he stood up. As he walked toward the bedroom, he said to Fang Yinnian:
“I’m going to rest first. Brother Nian, make yourself at home.”
This attitude made it clear: he wouldn’t forgive Fang Yinnian until he saw results with his own eyes. As for what Fang Yinnian chose to do, he wouldn’t force him; the initiative lay entirely in Fang Yinnian’s hands.
It simply meant that if he didn’t get a satisfactory answer, he would continue acting this way. It all depended on Fang Yinnian’s choice.
Watching Xiao Ji walk into the bedroom and slam the door shut with a bang, the fire in Fang Yinnian’s heart raged even hotter.
Was Xiao Ji wrong?
It seemed not. Xiao Ji hadn’t asked to go to the audition; Fang Yinnian had arranged it for him. As for Cheng Nuo, regardless of whether the two had exchanged words beforehand, Cheng Nuo hitting someone was a sign that Fang Yinnian hadn’t handled his own affairs properly.
Most importantly, as the saying goes, one must look at the owner before beating the dog. By doing this, Cheng Nuo hadn’t saved him a shred of face.
Fang Yinnian drove back, calling Cheng Nuo along the way, but Cheng Nuo didn’t answer.
However, as soon as he arrived at his own gate, he saw Cheng Nuo, who had delivered himself to the door.
Fang Yinnian parked the car by the roadside. He got out and walked up to Cheng Nuo. Before he could even start his interrogation, Cheng Nuo started whining first:
“Brother Nian, do you think what you did was appropriate? That endorsement was agreed upon between us before you even knew Xiao Ji. Now you let Xiao Ji butt in. If word gets out, where do I put my face?”
Fang Yinnian had always treated Cheng Nuo well. Adhering to the principle that supporting someone means supporting anyone, he might as well support his brother, so he had spoiled Cheng Nuo for years.
Now it seemed he had spoiled him into ignorance, making him think that any resource Fang Yinnian obtained should belong to him.
Without saying a word, he threw a vicious punch straight at Cheng Nuo’s face, nearly knocking him over backwards.
Only then did he clap his hands and say to Cheng Nuo, “Your face? When you touched Xiao Ji, did you think about my face? I treat you as a brother, yet you dare to touch my person? I gave you too much respect.”
Cheng Nuo, dizzy from Fang Yinnian’s sudden punch, took a long time to recover. He looked at Fang Yinnian in disbelief.
“Are you crazy? You’ve only known Xiao Ji for a few days, and now you don’t even recognize me? Xiao Ji was mocking me, and I couldn’t control my temper in the heat of the moment so I…”
“Don’t give me that useless bullshit, Cheng Nuo,” Fang Yinnian interrupted him.
“Do you think I don’t know about your petty schemes? Let me tell you, nothing gives you the reason to lay a hand on him. My resources, my company—I have the final say. I can make you famous, and I can ban you from the industry. As a brother, I have done my utmost for you.”
Cheng Nuo pressed his tongue against his cheek, which was numb from the hit, and suddenly let out a cold laugh.
“Xiao Ji really has some skill to make you this obsessed. Ah-Nian, for the sake of our past brotherhood, let me remind you: don’t think Xiao Ji is some easy oil lamp to burn. He has plenty of tricks up his sleeve.”
Seeing that Cheng Nuo not only refused to admit his mistake but also tried to shift the blame onto Xiao Ji, Fang Yinnian suddenly felt as if he had never truly known the person in front of him all these years.
He couldn’t be bothered to waste more breath on Cheng Nuo. Curbing his anger, he said, “Get lost. Don’t let me see you recently.”
It was true that Fang Yinnian was disappointed in Cheng Nuo, but he wasn’t that easy to fool either.
He was indeed quite obsessed with Xiao Ji recently, but to say he trusted Xiao Ji one hundred percent would be impossible.
He was very clear-headed. Cheng Nuo said Xiao Ji had tricks, but Fang Yinnian didn’t take it to heart. It was a sugar daddy relationship to begin with; Xiao Ji’s actions were nothing more than planning for himself to get resources.
This was a normal transaction between a patron and Xiao Ji.
One was willing to hit, the other willing to get hit.
He didn’t need Xiao Ji to love him; he only needed to have money and resources. Xiao Ji wasn’t stupid, so naturally, he wouldn’t easily give up this relationship.
But in reality, despite his clarity, when night fell, Fang Yinnian still suffered from insomnia.
After thinking it over and over, he finally dialed Xiao Ji’s number.
“What did you mean by that sentence you said today? ‘At least we were together once, I am content, no regrets.’ What does that mean?”
