Chapter 25: The Small-Time Star and His Short-Tempered Sugar Daddy (Part XXV)
The reception room wasn’t large.
Probably to create an atmosphere and ambiguous environment for the guests, there was only a small round coffee table and a two-seater sofa.
This meant that when two people conversed, they couldn’t face each other across a table; they could only sit together on that two-seater sofa.
As soon as Fang Yinnian walked into the reception room, he couldn’t help but frown.
Not long ago, Xiao Ji’s phrase “You too” kept lingering in Fang Yinnian’s mind.
He didn’t take a seat, standing only by the window.
When the first female guest, Li Yun, entered, he only nodded slightly to indicate that Li Yun should sit herself.
When facing someone far more powerful than themselves, people usually submit subconsciously.
Fang Yinnian’s powerful aura was built on real money. He was full of confidence, without a hint of bluffing. Anyone who knew a little about him had heard more or less that Fang Yinnian’s temper wasn’t very good.
Li Yun had a gentle personality. Being alone in a room with Fang Yinnian inevitably made her feel pressured.
After sitting on the sofa, she kept waiting for Fang Yinnian to speak first.
But Fang Yinnian didn’t seem to have that intention. If Li Yun didn’t speak, he didn’t speak, just standing there quietly.
With such a huge golden bachelor right in front of her, even Li Yun found it hard not to be moved by Fang Yinnian’s background. After a long time, Li Yun spoke first, joking:
“Did President Fang come on the show really just to keep Teacher Cheng company?”
The first question was one Fang Yinnian found inconvenient to answer.
Standing by the window with one hand in his trouser pocket, he said faintly, “Fake.”
Li Yun chuckled lightly. “Then it surely isn’t really to go on blind dates, is it?”
Fang Yinnian: “No.”
Li Yun: “To kill time?”
Fang Yinnian: “No.”
Li Yun: “Does President Fang have any questions to ask me?”
Fang Yinnian: “No.”
Li Yun: “Are you not interested in my type?”
Fang Yinnian: “I don’t like types that talk too much.”
…
Ten minutes later, the person in front of Fang Yinnian changed to Lie.
Lie had said earlier that she liked men who knew how to care for others. Currently, she had a pretty good impression of Cheng Nuo, whom she had talked to not long ago. Although there was a mistake with the curry chicken at noon, Cheng Nuo seemed quite gentlemanly and attentive in his speech and demeanor.
Seeing Fang Yinnian standing by the window with a sour face now, Lie didn’t have much desire to talk to him.
She simply talked about work: “I heard your company intends to acquire Zhongmei Media. I have a fair friendship with the big boss of Zhongmei. If President Fang has needs, I can make an introduction.”
Fang Yinnian spoke bluntly, “Acquisition only requires planning and money. Whether I see their boss or not has little significance to me.”
…
Another ten minutes passed. Gu Yao sat on the sofa, speaking to Fang Yinnian nervously:
“Big Brother Fang, you’re a bit fierce. I’m a little scared.”
Fang Yinnian: “Then get out.”
…
The last person to appear before Fang Yinnian was Su Yu.
Compared to the caution of the other three, Su Yu had the most ordinary status but was the most relaxed. She spoke as soon as she sat down:
“I have self-awareness. I don’t dream of flying up a branch to become a phoenix. I’m not good enough for you.”
Fang Yinnian remembered this Su Yu because at noon, she went to get chopsticks for Xiao Ji. When she looked at Xiao Ji, there were invisible hooks in her eyes.
Regardless of the situation, not staring at ladies was one of Fang Yinnian’s personal principles.
He just glanced at Su Yu and withdrew his gaze.
“Cheng Nuo and Zhao Jiatong are decent,” Fang Yinnian said.
Hearing this, Su Yu raised her eyebrows. “If I recall correctly, Xiao Ji should also be an artist from President Fang’s company, right? Why not mention Xiao Ji?”
Fang Yinnian stated bluntly, “Because you’re not good enough for him.”
Su Yu laughed. “Xiao Ji, aside from appearance, among the four of you, seems…”
She stopped halfway.
But the implication was clear. Aside from taking top spot in looks, Xiao Ji indeed had the lowest status and thinnest background among the four male guests currently.
Fang Yinnian let out a vague cold snort. “I was talking about appearance too.”
Su Yu didn’t get angry at having her looks criticized. She pursed her lips. “As expected of President Fang, your words are quite unpleasant to hear.”
As soon as the ten minutes were up, Fang Yinnian walked out of the reception room first. Upon exiting, he saw Xiao Ji already standing outside the door.
As their eyes met, he gave Xiao Ji a warning look and went downstairs.
Xiao Ji didn’t know where Fang Yinnian’s sudden anger came from. Watching Su Yu come out of the reception room following Fang Yinnian’s steps, he gave Su Yu an extra glance, then walked into the reception room without a word.
Su Yu didn’t know Xiao Ji and didn’t see the dissatisfaction and questioning expressed in that glance Xiao Ji gave her. She just looked back at Xiao Ji’s retreating figure and left as well.
Xiao Ji walked into the reception room. Seeing that two-seater sofa, he frowned.
He stood there for a while before focusing his gaze on that small round coffee table…
Li Yun arrived at the reception room first as usual.
Upon entering, she saw that the small coffee table originally next to the sofa had been pulled to the corner by the window. At this moment, Xiao Ji was sitting on the coffee table, supporting his two long legs that had nowhere to go.
Li Yun pursed her lips. Looking at Xiao Ji huddled in the corner like that, she cooperatively sat on the armrest of the sofa furthest from Xiao Ji.
The two looked at each other. Li Yun felt that based on the personality of Xiao Ji she had learned so far, if she didn’t speak, Xiao Ji would really just sit there dryly for ten minutes.
So she eventually spoke first. “No need to be so restrained… I’m a bit older than you. I think you probably wouldn’t like the ‘big sister’ type, so we can interact as friends.”
Xiao Ji nodded.
Li Yun had no thoughts about Xiao Ji, but finding his personality quite interesting, she teased him:
“Have you been in love before?”
Xiao Ji: “Who?”
Li Yun was stunned. “You.”
Xiao Ji: “What about me?”
Li Yun pursed her lips. “Have you been in love before?”
Xiao Ji: “With whom?”
Li Yun’s mind instantly recalled the male partner from Xiao Ji’s first drama. She suddenly wanted to gossip but found it inconvenient to say directly, so she said euphemistically:
“Classmates, drama partners, or something?”
Anyway, Xiao Ji had filmed more than just that one drama; it was just that the later ones were lukewarm.
Xiao Ji remained expressionless. “You want to trap me into answering whether I’m gay.”
Hearing this, Li Yun was startled and waved her hands hurriedly. “No, no, no, I didn’t mean that…”
