Cold and Ruthless? That’s Nothing Compared to His Wife’s Broken Waist chapter 89

Chapter 89: Make You Call Me Gege (9)

Alphas weren’t allowed to enter the Beta dorms freely.

Gu Yinnian didn’t say “hello” back, but he spent a long time haggling with the elderly guard at the Area 7 gate. Eventually, he had to leave his ID, phone, bank card, and his own suitcase in the old man’s hands before he was allowed to go up, drop off the luggage, and come right back down.

Xiao Ji said he could carry one of the two waist-high suitcases himself, but Gu Yinnian didn’t believe him. Fearing Xiao Ji would break if touched, he made him stay downstairs and watch while Gu Yinnian made two trips—carrying one up, coming back for the other, and finally leading the empty-handed Xiao Ji upstairs.

“I can carry it. I was on my own when I flew back,” Xiao Ji said helplessly as he watched Gu Yinnian huffing and puffing up the stairs.

Gu Yinnian gave a grunt. “Fine, I get it. Then you can push it into your room yourself once we’re up there.”

Xiao Ji immediately changed his mind. “Actually, you should do it. Since you’re being such a ‘kind classmate,’ you should see the job through to the end.”

Gu Yinnian ignored him, reached the floor, and pushed the luggage into the dorm suite. The environment at A University was nice; the dorms were apartment-style with three bedrooms and a shared living room, two people to a room.

Gu Yinnian stopped in the living room. “Go on in. I’m leaving.”

“Okay,” Xiao Ji nodded.

But despite his words, Gu Yinnian didn’t budge. He seemed to be waiting for something. Xiao Ji didn’t move either, waiting for him to speak. When Gu Yinnian didn’t say anything, Xiao Ji finally relented and gave him a way out. “Do you want to come in and take a look?”

“No need,” Gu Yinnian refused. “It’s just a dorm. I have one too.”

Xiao Ji nodded and was about to tell him to go, but before he could, Gu Yinnian added quickly, “But if you really want me to see it, I suppose I could.”

Xiao Ji played along. “Alright, then I want you to.”

The tension on Gu Yinnian’s face finally relaxed a bit. He walked to the door of Xiao Ji’s specific room and knocked. A voice from inside quickly shouted, “Come in! It’s unlocked!”

Being an Alpha, Gu Yinnian maintained a sense of boundaries around others. He gave Xiao Ji a look, signaling him to open the door. Xiao Ji dragged one suitcase and pushed the door open.

The room had two beds—the lofted kind with desks underneath—along with individual wardrobes and a balcony. It was a decent setup. A Beta was currently on one of the beds, rear in the air as he made it. Hearing the door, he turned around and looked between Xiao Ji and Gu Yinnian for a while before shifting his posture.

“An Alpha?”

Gu Yinnian glanced at the Beta. He was short, a bit chubby, with a face that was cute but not exactly striking—the kind that would blend into a crowd. For some reason, the anxiety Gu Yinnian had been feeling immediately settled.

“Sorry,” Gu Yinnian said. “Just helping him with his luggage. Sorry to disturb you.”

The Beta didn’t mind. “It’s fine. We’re all classmates, I assume? I’m Song Zhi, from Finance Class 1.”

Gu Yinnian replied politely, “Same class. Gu Yinnian.”

Xiao Ji said nothing. Seeing this, Gu Yinnian gave him a nudge. “Say hello.”

“Hello,” Xiao Ji said.

Gu Yinnian filled in the rest: “His name is Xiao Ji. Same class too.” He then looked at Xiao Ji. “Get along with your roommate. I’m off. Call me if you need anything.”

Xiao Ji said okay. After watching Gu Yinnian leave, he sent a text:

【Get along with your roommates. Don’t curse at people, don’t sneer, and don’t headbutt anyone.】

Gu Yinnian replied instantly: 【Since when do you need to worry about me?】

Song Zhi watched Xiao Ji put his phone away and asked curiously, “Was that… your Alpha?”

“Not yet,” Xiao Ji denied.

The “not yet” told Song Zhi everything he needed to know. “A work in progress?”

Xiao Ji denied it again. “We just met today.”

Song Zhi was surprised; they certainly didn’t look like they had just met. But since they were strangers, he didn’t want to pry and irritate his new roommate, so he dropped the subject of Gu Yinnian. Instead, he asked standard roommate questions: where he was from, his test scores, his height—since he looked quite tall—and so on.

Xiao Ji answered exactly what was asked and not a word more, leaving Song Zhi unsure if he was being friendly or not. The one-sided interview quickly fizzled out.

Later, Song Zhi—who had struggled just to get his bed made—watched as Xiao Ji organized his belongings with surgical precision. Not only was the bedding laid out without a single wrinkle, but the clothes were categorized by color and style, and the socks and underwear were lined up like soldiers at attention.

The thing Song Zhi couldn’t understand most was that Xiao Ji didn’t have a duvet or a mattress. He only had a pillow and a single bedsheet spread over the bare wooden bed frame.

“If your bedding hasn’t arrived yet, I have a spare set you can use,” Song Zhi offered kindly.

Xiao Ji glanced at him. “Thanks, but no. I prefer it this way.”

While the atmosphere between Xiao Ji and Song Zhi was as cold as an ice cellar, things were heating up at Gu Yinnian’s place. Alpha dorms were the same as the Beta ones, but Gu Yinnian had already tackled a large, dark-skinned Alpha to the floor in the common area.

He was pinned on top of the guy, fist raised, but then he remembered the text Xiao Ji had just sent. He held back. He just grabbed the Alpha by the collar and growled, “Ren Pu, right? Don’t try to act tough in front of me again. If I hear you say one more thing about Xiao Ji, I’ll knock your teeth out.”

He stood up, stepped over the Alpha, and dragged his luggage into his room. The dark-skinned Alpha, having lost face on the very first day, scrambled up and yelled, “My name is Ren Jin!”

No one listened. Embarrassed and fuming, he cursed, “Is this guy insane? What did I even say about that Xiao Ji? Why is he so worked up?”

Gu Yinnian’s roommate was a refined-looking Alpha with glasses named Lin Mo. Both of them had been waiting together for a senior to take them to the dorms earlier. They had seen Gu Yinnian initiating the luggage-moving to get close to Xiao Ji.

Lin Mo looked at Ren Jin. “Do you need me to remind you? You said that even though Xiao Ji hasn’t differentiated, he obviously looks like an Omega, that he’s ‘hot enough’ and ‘slutty enough’ to hook an Alpha without saying a word.”

He paused, then added, “So, how was it? Was the ‘hooked Alpha’ hot enough for you?”
