Chapter 90: Make You Call Me Brother (10)
Ren Jin hadn’t expected to encounter a human voice recorder in this day and age.
Having been called out so explicitly by Lin Mo, he wisely shut his mouth.
Having watched the drama unfold, Lin Mo followed Gu Yinnian back to their room.
“Don’t pay him any mind. Some people just like to run their mouths without thinking; they probably don’t even know what they’re saying half the time.”
Gu Yinnian, recalling what Lin Mo had said to Ren Jin earlier, felt a rare spark of goodwill toward this new acquaintance.
His tone softened slightly. “I’m not used to living with others. If I do anything to offend you, please bear with me.”
Lin Mo waved his hand dismissively. “I actually like your personality. Alphas are all like this—we don’t like sharing our territory.”
“But my pheromone gene sequence isn’t high, so I shouldn’t have much of a presence to you. As long as you don’t beat me up out of boredom, we won’t have any issues with offense.”
Gu Yinnian rubbed his nose at that. “I’m not the impulsive, violent type.”
Lin Mo nodded. “I can tell.”
Gu Yinnian found this amusing and let out a scoff. “You have a really foul mouth, bro.”
Lin Mo extended a hand toward Gu Yinnian. “Lin Mo. Please look after me.”
Gu Yinnian hesitated for a moment, but ultimately didn’t refuse the gesture. He shook his hand briefly.
“Gu Yinnian.”
Although Gu Yinnian seemed to have a terrible temper, for some reason, Lin Mo felt a sense of familiarity with him and didn’t hold back his curiosity.
“You and Xiao Ji… you didn’t just meet today, right?”
Gu Yinnian didn’t hide it. After a moment of silence, he said, “I watched him grow up.”
Lin Mo had sensed that Gu Yinnian and Xiao Ji were familiar, but he hadn’t expected them to be that familiar.
“Childhood sweethearts?” he asked.
Gu Yinnian hesitated.
He thought for a long time, struggling to find the right words to describe his relationship with Xiao Ji. Especially now, after having just seen Xiao Ji and agreed to “get to know each other again.”
Xiao Ji had agreed to it, too.
He wanted to say brothers, but the words wouldn’t come out. Childhood sweethearts didn’t seem quite right either.
In the end, he just clicked his tongue and said, “Not really. It’s complicated and hard to explain. I won’t bore you with it.”
Seeing that Gu Yinnian didn’t want to elaborate, Lin Mo tactfully dropped the subject.
Xiao Ji lay on the hard wooden bed board of his dorm all afternoon.
At 5:30 PM, he sent a message to Gu Yinnian:
[Eat?]
Gu Yinnian didn’t reply.
Just as Xiao Ji was debating whether to call Gu Yinnian to ask again, or to follow Gu Yinnian’s wish to pretend they were strangers and go eat by himself, his phone rang.
It was Gu Yinnian.
“Come downstairs. I’m below your building.”
Xiao Ji gave a simple “Oh.” Without even greeting Song Zhi, he rolled off the bed, slipped on his shoes, and walked straight out the door.
Song Zhi, who had been about to invite Xiao Ji to dinner, had to swallow his words.
But just as Xiao Ji stepped out of the dorm room, before the call ended, Gu Yinnian asked, “How’s your roommate?”
Xiao Ji answered honestly, “Don’t know him.”
Gu Yinnian thought for a moment. “We’re all classmates meeting for the first time. Call him along; it’s my treat.”
Xiao Ji assumed Gu Yinnian was trying to help him build a good relationship with his roommate, so he didn’t overthink it. He turned back, pushed the door open, and asked Song Zhi:
“Eat together?”
Song Zhi had already planned to ask, so he naturally didn’t refuse. He quickly said yes, changed his shoes, and followed Xiao Ji out.
Building 28 in Dorm Area 7 faced the street. From the window, one could see the road below and the male Alpha Dorm Area 8 opposite.
As soon as Xiao Ji went downstairs, he saw Gu Yinnian standing outside the dorm gate. Standing with him was an Alpha wearing glasses who looked refined and gentle.
Xiao Ji walked up to Gu Yinnian, glanced at Lin Mo a few times, and asked:
“Is your surname Lin?”
Lin Mo was stunned. He had arrived earlier than Xiao Ji today and had waited a while after filling out his forms before Xiao Ji showed up. In that time, at least two other people had filled out their forms.
He looked at Gu Yinnian. “You introduced me already?”
Gu Yinnian didn’t look at Xiao Ji, staring expressionlessly at Lin Mo instead. “I didn’t. Maybe he noticed you somewhere else.”
Although his tone sounded calm, Lin Mo, standing in the eye of this silent storm, felt a chill run down his spine.
He hurriedly denied it. “Impossible. I don’t believe it. Not realistic.”
He looked at Xiao Ji. “Bro, I have no grievances with you!”
Seeing his panicked state, Gu Yinnian asked, “What are you panicking for?”
Lin Mo denied it even more vehemently. “I’m not! I didn’t!”
Just as he was flustered and confused, unsure how to prove his innocence, Xiao Ji spoke up, looking at Gu Yinnian.
“You sent me a photo of your dorm this afternoon.”
Gu Yinnian first recalled the photo he had casually snapped for Xiao Ji earlier. It hadn’t captured Lin Mo, nor had it shown the nameplate on the door.
He squinted at Xiao Ji, then took out his phone, found the photo, and examined it closely.
He couldn’t see anything.
“Did you deduce his surname from the color of his bedsheets?” Gu Yinnian asked.
Xiao Ji’s expression was faint. “The desk. Zoom in.”
Gu Yinnian zoomed in on the desk area. Only then did he see a book lying open on the corner of the desk.
Written on the title page in crooked, scrawling handwriting were two characters: [Lin Mo].
Gu Yinnian was speechless. “Your eyes are like scanners.”
Xiao Ji looked at him. “Pretty much. If you go out on the balcony tonight, you’d better bundle up, because I can see you clearly.”
Gu Yinnian looked back at his own dorm building standing opposite Xiao Ji’s, fell silent for a moment, then stubbornly retorted:
“I’ll come out naked.”
Xiao Ji, as always, humored him. “Sure. If you’re not naked, you’re not a man.”
Gu Yinnian felt that Xiao Ji had changed. “You weren’t like this before.”
Xiao Ji replied matter-of-factly, “People change. It’s normal.”
Song Zhi, who had been watching the drama from the side for a long time, couldn’t help but interject:
“So you two really knew each other before?”
“Isn’t it obvious?” “Don’t know him.”
Xiao Ji and Gu Yinnian spoke at the same time.
They glanced at each other, then fell silent.
By now, even if Song Zhi were slow, he could tell these two definitely knew each other and had a deep connection. After all, strangers wouldn’t casually talk about being naked on a balcony.
But right now, the two didn’t seem very harmonious; they were probably having a tiff.
Song Zhi somewhat regretted coming out to eat with them. But suddenly claiming he had urgent business now would seem too fake.
So he could only give a dry laugh and change the subject.
“What should we eat? The cafeteria or the snack street? I looked up a guide on the forum earlier; apparently, there’s a barbecue place on the snack street with great reviews. Want to try it?”
Gu Yinnian looked at Xiao Ji.
Xiao Ji was indifferent. “Whoever’s treating decides.”
Gu Yinnian nodded. “Let’s go then. I’m spending your money anyway.”
