Chapter 4: Do You Think One Night is Enough to Settle the Score?
That night, Qin Wan hovered between life and death amidst repeated ravaging.
Harboring complex emotions akin to avenging a great grievance from years ago, Gu Xinglan was extremely rough.
It was clearly an execution.
He passed out from pain time and time again, only to wake up in pain time and time again.
His throat was cried hoarse, his eyes were swollen from crying, and the inside of his lips were bitten raw with bloody cuts.
He didn’t remember when Gu Xinglan finally stopped.
He couldn’t even distinguish if he was alive or had been played to death by him.
It wasn’t until he heard Gu Xinglan’s low, pleasant, yet scalp-numbing voice ring in his ear that he realized he was still in this madman’s hands.
“Qin Wan, did you have a pleasant night?”
Gu Xinglan’s voice carried a smile.
Wearing a set of black, high-quality silk pajamas, he leaned against the headboard.
Waiting at his leisure, staring at him.
Qin Wan’s fair skin was now covered in blue, red, and purple marks.
His body trembled slightly.
He thought that if someone gave him a knife, he would really kill this bastard right now.
Subconsciously, he tried to pull the thin blanket to cover himself.
But he found his wrists were still tied.
“President Gu…” As soon as he opened his mouth, he realized his voice was so hoarse it was almost inaudible.
Gu Xinglan reached out, his long fingers gently sliding across his chest, unrestrained.
His eyes were full of playful intent.
“Hm? Qin Wan, what’s wrong with your voice?”
Qin Wan’s pale little lips pressed tight, refusing to answer.
It took a long time before he spat out the second half of his sentence: “…Is it done? Can you… let me go?”
Gu Xinglan let out a muffled hum. “What do you mean by ‘is it done’?”
Qin Wan didn’t have a shred of strength left in his entire body, yet he had to force himself to answer his ridiculous question.
“You tortured me… for a whole night. I’ve already been punished. Can you… let me off now?”
“I… I will make up for Old Mr. Gu’s medical expenses. If I offended you anywhere before, I apologize again. Is this… enough?”
After saying this, Qin Wan exhausted all his strength.
His heart felt aggrieved and stifled; his eyes, already swollen from crying, turned red again.
Gu Xinglan didn’t speak.
The air in the room stagnated.
After a long while.
He finally spoke.
“Seven years ago, Jiang City. You pretended to be pitiful to borrow my phone, then you scammed me out of it.” His voice was calm and waveless.
As if reminiscing about the most ordinary household matters.
Hearing this, Qin Wan was stunned.
His gaze landed on Gu Xinglan’s long, narrow phoenix eyes, and he suddenly remembered.
Seven years ago, the first time he ran away from the Sheng family.
Penniless and unable to call the police, he scammed a person for their phone.
He planned to sell it for money to buy a ticket to leave.
He was incredibly nervous at the time and only remembered it was a boy a few years older than him, wearing a baseball cap and a mask.
Only a pair of eyes were revealed.
Qin Wan’s brows furrowed twice.
No wonder when they met last night, he felt Gu Xinglan’s extremely beautiful eyes looked somewhat familiar.
Enemies really do cross paths.
But, that brother from back then didn’t have eyes like this.
Otherwise, he definitely wouldn’t have dared to scam him.
Qin Wan looked away guiltily.
“I’m sorry. I was… I was forced by circumstances at the time…” he said quietly.
But he didn’t explain further. “However, no matter what, I apologize to you. Cheating you of your phone was wrong of me. I’ll pay for it along with the medical expenses, is that okay?”
Qin Wan lifted his eyelids to look at Gu Xinglan, then quickly lowered his gaze again.
Gu Xinglan didn’t answer.
He lowered his head to stare at Qin Wan and continued, “At that time, you were blinking a pair of eyes just like these—looking simple, clear, pitiful, and innocent—looking at me.”
As he spoke, his gaze drifted slightly.
“You know, after returning that day, my father not only punished me by making me kneel for seven hours but also took my only friend, that Golden Retriever, and gave it to a dog trader.”
“After killing it, he made the cook stew a pot of dog meat casserole and forced me to finish it.”
He recounted that terrifying memory methodically, his expression as calm as if discussing the weather.
“You surely don’t understand why he still punished me even though I was the one who got scammed.”
Gu Xinglan scoffed. “Because he said I harbored ‘womanly benevolence’ and couldn’t handle great responsibilities.”
It was almost from that time on that Gu Feng’s control over Gu Xinglan became even harsher.
Almost to a perverted degree.
That was what cultivated his current gloomy, extreme, and decisive nature.
“So, Qin Wan, do you still think one night is enough for you to settle the score?”
Gu Xinglan’s voice was ghostly, the emotions within it chilling Qin Wan’s heart.
Silence reigned for a moment.
“President Gu, then… can you untie me first? We can talk slowly,” Qin Wan said with a pleading tone.
“My wrists hurt, and my hands are numb.”
Gu Xinglan tilted his head slightly, looking at him.
He answered with a question: “Do you remember what you called me that day?”
A smile that wasn’t quite a smile played on his lips.
Qin Wan’s brows furrowed slightly as he shook his head.
The pad of Gu Xinglan’s finger gently brushed over Qin Wan’s pale lips.
“You called me, Brother.”
“How about you call me that again, and I’ll untie you, okay?”
Qin Wan felt that the way Gu Xinglan looked at him right now was like looking at a small pet firmly grasped in his palm, to be played with at will.
He took a deep breath.
He pressed his lips together several times before spitting out a word: “…Bro…”
Gu Xinglan slowly shook his head. “Wrong. It’s ‘Brother.’ Last chance.”
Qin Wan knew this mad dog of a man was deliberately humiliating and teasing him.
But right now, he just wanted to get free and had to submit.
“…Brother…” His voice was low and small, and raspy too.
It really couldn’t be counted as pleasant to hear.
But Gu Xinglan still smiled.
“Mn, good boy.”
As he spoke, he untied the tie bound to the headboard, releasing Qin Wan’s hands.
freed from restraint, Qin Wan wanted to roll off the bed and get far away from this pervert immediately.
But he severely underestimated Gu Xinglan’s destructive power.
At this moment, without the shackles, he realized that moving his body even slightly was difficult.
He was in pain and numb all over; his waist and legs felt like they had fallen apart.
Qin Wan gritted his teeth and moved forcefully, an involuntary, muffled cry of pain escaping his mouth.
Beside him, Gu Xinglan looked down at him.
“What, it hurts?”
Qin Wan clenched his teeth and didn’t reply.
“Where does it hurt? Hmm?” As Gu Xinglan spoke, he leaned in close. “Let me take a look.”
“No!” Qin Wan shouted in fright.
Immediately, he felt a wave of dizziness in his head, his vision blurring slightly.
Gu Xinglan chuckled and reached out to pinch his jaw.
“Qin Wan, I have to teach you some rules. Let’s state two first. First, do not shout at me.”
“Second, I don’t wish to hear you say ‘no’ to me.”
His hand touched his neck, and only then did he feel that his skin temperature was abnormal.
Gu Xinglan reached out and felt his forehead.
Immediately, his brow furrowed almost imperceptibly.
He had a fever.
And the fever wasn’t low.
No wonder his little face was red like this.
He had originally intended to punish him again now while he was conscious.
But right now, he hesitated.
Looking at his face flushed red from the fever, his mood was somewhat complex.
The person beneath him, due to extreme nervousness, had his beautiful, long fox eyes widened slightly.
Looking at him with panic and fear.
The mist of tears gathering in those clear black pupils slowly condensed, and another tear slid down.
Gu Xinglan’s lip line tightened.
After a silence, he released Qin Wan.
He turned and got off the bed.
“You have a fever. I’ll call a doctor over in a moment.”
“No need.” Qin Wan seemed to see a glimmer of hope. “I’ll go home and take medicine myself.”
Gu Xinglan turned his head slightly, his voice turning cold and gloomy: “You are not allowed to go anywhere; stay right here. Our account hasn’t been settled yet.”
After saying that, wearing his black pajamas, he walked out of the room.
The room fell quiet.
Qin Wan gritted his teeth, supporting himself on the bed with both hands to sit up.
Reaching out, he picked up his torn and crumpled clothes and trousers from the floor. With trembling fingers, he slowly moved his body to put them on.
He searched around but couldn’t find his phone anywhere.
Sighing, he got off the bed.
As soon as his feet touched the ground, it felt like stepping on cotton—soft and weightless.
Step by step, he walked with difficulty to the room door.
He jiggled the handle; as expected, the door was locked from the outside.
This room was a presidential suite, and Qin Wan knew these luxury suites were only on the fifteenth floor and above in the hotel.
So escaping through the window was impossible.
He pressed his ear to the door to listen; there was no sound.
He leaned into the peephole to look out.
Outside the door, a burly bodyguard in black stood with his hands at his sides.
Qin Wan thought for a moment.
Holding onto the wall, he walked back into the room.
His gaze circled around and locked onto a massive antique vase.
