Chapter 50: How Many Mistakes Did You Make Today?
Hearing those words, Qin Wan’s heart instinctively tightened. He took a deep breath and took the phone.
On the other end of the line came Gu Xinglan’s relatively gentle voice. “Qin Wan, it’s 5:30 PM. If you start heading back now, you can still make it home before 6:00 PM.”
As soon as these words were spoken, Qin Wan’s heart rate accelerated. He looked around at his surroundings. He understood that Gu Xinglan, that ghost-like man, must be lurking in some dark corner, watching him.
“I’m not going back!” He gritted his teeth, forcing a show of strength. “I’m staying here.”
“Auntie Rong disappeared here; I’m going to wait for her right here!” By the end, he was almost shouting.
Gu Xinglan’s voice lowered. “Qin Wan, if you aren’t obedient, you’ll be punished.”
“Punish me if you want!” Qin Wan’s voice was thick with nasal congestion. Things had already come to this, with Auntie Rong’s life or death unknown, yet he was still thinking about punishing him—then so be it!
Qin Wan’s lips couldn’t help but twitch with a sense of grievance. “Anyway, I’m staying right here!”
“You said you’d help me find Auntie Rong, but you let the rescue team withdraw. Gu Xinglan, are you lying to me?” His voice shifted from grief to anger.
Standing nearby, Xiao Han knew that he shouldn’t eavesdrop. He had already turned and walked several meters away.
On the other end of the line, Gu Xinglan paused, then said flatly, “Zhou Rong has been found.”
Qin Wan: “…”
“What?” His eyes widened in an instant, disbelief written all over his face. “What did you say?”
“You heard me. So, return home immediately.” Gu Xinglan’s tone was full of command.
“Re—Really?” Qin Wan’s eyebrows knit slightly. “Are you lying to me?”
Gu Xinglan didn’t bother explaining. In the next second, a video appeared on the screen of the phone in Qin Wan’s hand. He quickly tapped it; the person on the screen was indeed Auntie Rong. She was lying in a hospital bed, her eyes gently closed.
Qin Wan checked the time the video was filmed; it was only a dozen minutes ago. He gripped the phone tightly, feeling like a survivor of a disaster, as if a lifetime had passed.
“Are you willing to come home now?” Gu Xinglan’s cold voice came from the phone again.
Qin Wan was still immersed in the extreme joy of recovering what he had lost. Hearing this, he immediately nodded. “Yes, yes, I’ll go back, I’ll go back right now!”
Gu Xinglan gave a very low, muffled chuckle. “Come out. My car is by the road.”
Qin Wan returned the phone to Xiao Han and bowed to thank him. After that, he turned and ran toward the main road. Sure enough, a silver-gray luxury car he hadn’t seen before was parked at the roadside.
The door opened. The man in the driver’s seat had one hand on the steering wheel while his other elbow rested on the window frame. He was propping his chin up with his hand, tilting his head slightly as he stared toward the passenger side.
Seeing Gu Xinglan’s calm, handsome face, Qin Wan’s heart tightened slightly. He got into the car with small movements and gently closed the door.
” Gege …” He lowered his head and called out softly.
“Mn. You aren’t calling me ‘Gu Xinglan’ anymore?”
Hearing this, Qin Wan’s throat felt a bit dry, and he swallowed hard. “I was just… just overwhelmed by anxiety earlier, that’s why I…”
Gu Xinglan’s long fingers tapped gently on the high-quality leather and solid wood steering wheel. “We’ll talk about your mistakes slowly later.”
“Now, I’m asking you: do you want to go see Zhou Rong?”
Qin Wan automatically ignored the first sentence, focusing only on the second. “Really?” A brilliant light flashed in his dark eyes.
“I want to go, I want to go!” He cried out urgently. ” Gege , you’re so good!”
Gu Xinglan let out a chuckle, the expression on his handsome face relaxing. He started the car and headed toward the city.
On the way, he told Qin Wan that he had gone to the city bureau early this morning to ask for their help in finding the person. Later, through the combined efforts of the Maritime Bureau and the police force, they finally discovered that a small boat out at sea yesterday morning had rescued a woman who had fallen into the water. She was then sent to a hospital.
Receiving the news, Gu Xinglan had immediately rushed to the hospital and found that it was indeed Zhou Rong. He immediately arranged for people to bring her back to Sheng’an Hospital.
Qin Wan’s heart rose again. “Then, is Auntie Rong okay now?”
Gu Xinglan: “She’s fine. She choked on some water. She’s had an IV and is out of danger now.”
“We’ll eat first, and then I’ll take you to see her.”
Qin Wan was so excited his small head nodded repeatedly. “Mn, mn!”
They found a nearby restaurant and ate quickly. Before long, the car arrived at the hospital. Gu Xinglan took Qin Wan upstairs to the ward door.
“I’ll wait outside,” Gu Xinglan said.
Qin Wan nodded and pushed the door open excitedly. “Auntie Rong!” he called out, running to her bedside.
“Xiao Wan!” Zhou Rong propped herself up against the bed.
Qin Wan quickly reached out to support her. “Auntie Rong, how could you do something so foolish? Do you have any idea how worried I was!” He said, his eyes turning slightly red.
Zhou Rong’s nose crinkled, and her tears began to fall. “Xiao Wan, I only found out yesterday that you’ve been suffering all this time! Why didn’t you tell me?”
“Xiao Wan, I’m someone with one foot in the grave; whether I live or die doesn’t matter. You’re still so young—how could I let you be controlled by others because of me!”
Qin Wan grabbed her hand and shook his head. “No, Auntie Rong, it’s not like that.”
“I haven’t been controlled by anyone.”
Zhou Rong frowned. “But I heard about some President Gu…”
Qin Wan interrupted her. “Gu Xinglan and I… are dating… I just hadn’t decided how to tell you yet.”
“Dating?” Zhou Rong was even more confused.
Qin Wan nodded. “Yes. So don’t listen to others’ nonsense. There’s no such thing as being controlled.” He looked at her with a gentle and serious gaze. “Auntie Rong, you just need to focus on recovering. Don’t worry about the surgery either.”
Although Zhou Rong still had her doubts, seeing how serious Qin Wan was, she felt a bit more at ease. “Good child, I know you’re the most filial child in the world.”
“In the future, no matter what happens, you aren’t allowed to keep secrets from me. You have to tell me, understand?” She said, gently stroking his head with eyes full of love.
Qin Wan smiled and nodded. “Mn, I understand.”
The two chatted for a while longer. Then, the ward door opened, and three men walked in. It was Xiao Han with the two bodyguards who had been guarding Auntie Rong’s ward before.
Xiao Han bowed deeply to Zhou Rong on the bed. “Auntie Rong, this whole mess was caused by these two talking nonsense. I’ve brought them here for you to deal with.”
Xiao Han’s handsome face was stern and serious. As he spoke, he dragged the two men behind him to the bedside. Zhou Rong saw that one had a bandage wrapped around his head while the other had his arm in a sling.
“What happened to them?”
Xiao Han: “They suffered some minor injuries while they were out looking for you.”
Zhou Rong sighed. “You haven’t had it easy either.” These two were usually polite and always arrived whenever called; she didn’t have any ill feelings toward them.
The two bodyguards were both crestfallen, sincerely admitting their fault. “Auntie Rong, we really shouldn’t have been talking nonsense!”
“Yeah, it’s all our fault for not guarding our mouths!”
Zhou Rong waved her hand. “Forget it, it’s over. Don’t take it to heart.”
Xiao Han said coldly to his subordinates, “Aren’t you going to thank Auntie Rong?”
The two nervously bowed repeatedly. “Thank you, Auntie Rong!” Only then did Xiao Han lead them away.
A caregiver arrived with dinner. Qin Wan served Auntie Rong as she ate before standing up. “Then I’ll be going back. Rest early; I’ll come to see you when I have time.”
“Alright. Xiao Wan, take care of your own health too!”
“Don’t worry.”
Leaving the ward, Qin Wan finally felt at peace. Although he and Auntie Rong were still in Gu Xinglan’s grasp, as long as she was safe and sound, he was satisfied.
Seeing Gu Xinglan, Qin Wan’s eyelashes drooped slightly. ” Gege , thank you.” He said, taking the man’s hand of his own accord.
Gu Xinglan didn’t say anything, leading him downstairs. Only once they were in the car did he speak.
” I promised to help you find her, and now I’ve fulfilled it.”
Qin Wan immediately nodded. “Mn, mn. Gege is a gentleman who keeps his word, a very good person!” As he spoke, he even gave him a thumbs-up.
Gu Xinglan’s lips curved slightly, and his eyes shifted. “A good person? At the beach earlier, God knows how you were cursing me in your heart.”
Qin Wan waved his small hands repeatedly. “No, no, Gege , really, I wasn’t!”
Gu Xinglan stared at his somewhat panicked face, reached out, and grabbed his waist, pulling him close. He was almost pressed against the man’s chest.
“Qin Wan, tell me yourself: how many mistakes did you make today?”
“I…” Qin Wan’s small head drooped. “I shouldn’t have failed to return home at the agreed time.”
Gu Xinglan raised an eyebrow. “And?”
Qin Wan: “And… I shouldn’t have lost my temper and talked back to you.”
Gu Xinglan: “Mn. Continue.”
Qin Wan’s face wrinkled up. “There’s more?”
Gu Xinglan: “You can’t remember? Let me give you a reminder. What were you calling me earlier?”
Qin Wan muttered under his breath, “I shouldn’t have been impolite and called you by your name.”
Gu Xinglan: “Keep going.”
Qin Wan’s face fell. “What else could there be?”
Gu Xinglan’s finger tilted his chin up, his amber eyes gazing intently at him. “Also, you didn’t eat breakfast or lunch.”
Qin Wan puffed out his cheeks slightly. “Oh.”
A dark, sharp, and intensely lustful look clouded Gu Xinglan’s phoenix eyes. “So, for multiple offenses, when we get back, come with me to the Reflection Room to receive your punishment.”
