Chapter 61: With You by My Side, I Dare to Be a Little Wild
“Assistant Tan, what is it?”
Seeing him dazed, Xiao Han tilted his head and asked.
Tan Feng snapped back to his senses. “Oh, nothing. I’ll try it.”
He picked up a skewer and tasted it.
His brow arched instinctively. “Eh, the flavor is quite good!”
A smile curled Xiao Han’s lips, as if he had secretly breathed a sigh of relief. “It’s good that you like it.”
He took a small bowl and served Tan Feng some Tofu Soup with Vinegar.
The two chatted as they ate.
“Xiao Han, I heard you managed to save those two unlucky bastards who were responsible for Auntie Rong’s security before?” Tan Feng asked.
Xiao Han took a sip of tea and nodded. “They’ve been disciplined. When we were looking for the person, they were also at the very front, doing the hardest work.”
“They’re our own brothers. As long as they haven’t developed a second heart, I’ll save them if I can.”
Tan Feng had previously thought Xiao Han was just a hot-headed youth who only knew how to use his fists.
But through this incident, his opinion of him had changed.
He heard that Xiao Han had taken the two offending bodyguards to see Zhou Rong personally to obtain the victim’s forgiveness, which allowed him to ask for a favor from the boss.
In the end, it was settled with a small fine.
Otherwise, the fate of those two would have been miserable.
It seemed that Xiao Han was definitely not just a brawler who only knew how to throw punches.
He knew how to grasp the key point of a situation to solve problems. He was young but clever.
And he had a sense of loyalty about him.
Tan Feng liked dealing with people like that.
So, the subsequent conversation became more relaxed and natural.
Xiao Han was usually a man of few words, treating them as if they were gold.
He kept handing food and pouring drinks for Tan Feng while listening to him talk eloquently.
He answered every question but never interrupted.
Tan Feng asked, “I heard your family isn’t originally from the Imperial Capital?”
Xiao Han nodded, not hiding it at all. “Yes. My family is from the countryside, a very remote and poor area.”
Tan Feng was slightly surprised.
For a child from the countryside to establish a foothold in the Imperial Capital at such a young age and become a business mogul’s personal bodyguard and security director—this made him look at the man with even more respect.
Xiao Han’s thin lips pursed slightly. “That day we conspired to trick your mother… did she ask about it again later?”
Tan Feng breathed a sigh of relief. “She did, but I said I’ve been too busy lately to give her details, so I managed to brush it off.”
Xiao Han nodded slightly and went quiet for a moment. “If you still need my cooperation, just tell me.”
Tan Feng laughed. “Everyone says Director Xiao is cold and aloof, but I see that’s not necessarily true.”
Xiao Han lowered his gaze slightly and muttered in a very low voice, “It also depends on the person.”
However, this sentence was drowned out by the rowdy voices of the people at the next table and didn’t reach Tan Feng’s ears.
Tan Feng’s attention was currently drawn to a table not far away.
Five men were sitting at that table.
Every one of them was dressed in gaudy, flashy clothes, looking like typical street thugs.
Currently, one of them—a tall, thin man with dyed yellow hair—was harassing a young girl of about eighteen or nineteen.
From her clothes, the girl was a promotional model selling beer.
“Do you know how much these pants cost? Three thousand five hundred! If you can’t wipe them clean today, you’re going to pay me back the full price!”
“Big brother, I… I really didn’t mean it…” The girl’s face was white with fear.
“If it wasn’t on purpose, you don’t have to pay? Hurry up, wipe the beer you spilled off of me!”
The men beside him joined in the heckling: “That’s right, hurry and wipe it clean for our big brother!”
“If you can’t wipe it clean, you can just spend the night with our big brother instead!”
“Exactly, exactly!”
“Hahaha!”
The beer girl was clearly terrified by this bunch. While trying to break her hand free from his grip, she repeatedly begged for mercy.
“Big brother, please… don’t be like this, let me go first…”
At this moment, the shop owner ran over.
“Eh, several bosses, don’t be angry, don’t be angry! Let’s talk things over properly!”
Yellow Hair glanced sideways at the owner. “Talk my ass! This brat spilled beer on my brand-new pants. Either wipe it clean or buy me a new pair!”
Tan Feng watched from the side. From the short distance, he could see clearly that only a tiny bit of beer had actually spilled.
And the spot where it spilled was right on Yellow Hair’s inner thigh.
The beer girl looked at the owner, her eyes turning red. “They told me to pour the beer, and then… and then they touched me, that’s why it spilled…”
Yellow Hair slammed the table. “Bullshit! You still dare to talk nonsense?”
At this point, the attention of the surrounding diners was drawn over, and they were all whispering.
Any clear-eyed person could see that Yellow Hair’s group was intentionally taking advantage of the girl, but no one dared to stand up and stop them.
Tan Feng put down his glass, stood up, and walked over to that table.
“For so many grown men to make things difficult for a young girl, it’s not quite appropriate, is it?”
Yellow Hair’s small eyes glared. “Who the hell are you? What business is it of yours?”
“Exactly, get lost, get lost!”
“Why are you sticking your neck out for her? Are you going to pay for the pants instead?”
The thugs shouted one after another.
Tan Feng was neither angry nor annoyed. He pushed the gold-rimmed glasses up the bridge of his nose.
“Fine. Since I happened to see it, I’ll pay for her.”
“However, demanding full price for a tiny spill of beer is a bit unreasonable.”
Yellow Hair had originally only wanted to have some fun at the girl’s expense and touch her a bit; he hadn’t actually expected to get any money.
Now that someone actually wanted to play the hero and was willing to pay, he became even more spirited.
His small eyes narrowed. “Then how much can you pay?”
Tan Feng gave a light chuckle. “Actually, paying the full price is no problem. However, it has to be worth the price.”
As he spoke, he snatched a freshly opened bottle of beer from the table.
Without another word, he poured the entire thing onto Yellow Hair’s pants.
It happened too suddenly; Yellow Hair was completely caught off guard.
By the time he reacted, from his crotch to his pant legs, the entire pair of pants was soaked through with beer.
The golden liquid dripped down from the hem of his pants.
“Ah? You fucking playing me?” Yellow Hair went crazy, jumping up from his stool and about to strike Tan Feng.
The other thugs also swarmed around.
Just then, a dark shadow flashed forward like a gust of wind.
Before anyone noticed, a beer bottle had already slammed hard into Yellow Hair’s head.
Immediately following, fists and kicks fell upon the thugs like raindrops.
It wasn’t until all five men were on the ground, groaning and unable to get up, that they saw clearly. The person who had beaten them like this was a very young, very handsome man.
“Who… who are you?”
“…Who do you run with?”
Xiao Han added a kick to each of the two who could still speak, making them shut up.
Then he pulled a wad of bills from his wallet and threw them on the ground.
Having done all this, he slowly lowered the rolled-up sleeves of his suit jacket and dusted himself off.
He looked at Tan Feng. “Are you alright?”
Tan Feng was a bit dazed.
Although he knew Xiao Han’s skills were good, witnessing it personally at such close range was another matter entirely.
This combat power was enough to make one’s blood boil.
Hearing Xiao Han speak, he finally snapped back.
“Oh, I’m fine.”
At this moment, the beer girl bowed and thanked them, and the owner also kept nodding.
Tan Feng put two hundred-yuan bills on the table and nodded to Xiao Han. “Let’s go.”
The two of them left together.
Once they were in the car, Xiao Han said, “I didn’t think Assistant Tan liked being a hero.”
Tan Feng smiled. “It’s not really about being a hero; I just can’t stand seeing people being bullied.”
Xiao Han turned his head slightly and looked at him. “How are your fighting skills?”
Tan Feng shook his head. “I’m not good at fighting.”
Xiao Han was a bit surprised. “Then you dared to go up and confront them directly?”
Tan Feng gave a light laugh. “Well, isn’t it because you were there?”
A smile blossomed on Xiao Han’s lips. “How did you know I would definitely step in?”
Tan Feng gave a muffled laugh. “You even agreed to such an unreasonable request as pretending to be my boyfriend; I didn’t think you’d leave me to die.”
Xiao Han’s thin lips pursed slightly, and his gaze shifted subtly.
He glanced toward the left.
He slowly started the car.
“If I weren’t there, would you still have bothered with this?” he asked, changing the subject.
Tan Feng took off his gold-rimmed glasses and rubbed his temples. “I wouldn’t have sat idly by. But I wouldn’t have gone up to start a fight directly; I would have chosen to call the police immediately.”
Xiao Han laughed. “Assistant Tan is indeed flexible and knows how to judge a situation.”
Tan Feng also burst out laughing. “Yeah. With a gold-medal bodyguard like Director Xiao by my side, I dare to be a little wild.”
Xiao Han lowered his eyes slightly.
From an angle where Tan Feng couldn’t see, a warm glow rippled through his dark, deep, hawk-like eyes.
Translator’s Note: Tan Feng pouring the beer on the guy’s crotch was such a “boss” move! “Knowing how to judge a situation” (識時務 – shí shí wù) is a common idiom meaning to act wisely based on the circumstances. The chemistry between these two is really starting to simmer!
