Chapter 19 β Baffling (Revised) β
Forget it.
Lin Sumo closed the WeChat chat window without hesitation.
It was already Thursday. Next Wednesday, they had a regular season match against Fair, whose tactics they still hadn’t figured out. On Saturday and Sunday, they had the entertainment match Song Hong mentioned.
βThe schedule was as tight as could be. Where would he find time to be annoying and piss people off?
Clearly, Pei Yun thought the same, as he didn’t send any more messages either.
All arrangements proceeded in an orderly yet hurried manner, like a busy intersection managed by a traffic cop.
A small car rushed forward quickly, only to be caught by the administrator of order.
That little car named “Tease” was locked up, at least ensuring it wouldn’t disrupt order for a short while.
Yu Pei had simply arranged for everyone to return to training. Since the other teammates were solo queueing, Lin Sumo casually started a solo ranked game to boost his main account’s score.
After entering the game, Lin Sumo scanned the other nine IDs. To his surprise, he saw an ID with the “Fair” team prefix on the opposing side.
Fair-Yuan. It was Fair’s captain and jungler, Cheng Yuan.
Lin Sumo hesitated for two seconds, then finally greeted Cheng Yuan in the all-chat channel.
Trust-Solve: [Hello, Captain Cheng.]
A second after sending it, Lin Sumo felt… like an elementary school student greeting a teacher.
Crucially… why the hell can’t I retract this!
After he sent that, the game started, so Lin Sumo didn’t say anything more and played as he usually would.
Less than five minutes into the game, the marksman on his team started inexplicably feeding kills to the tower, doing it three times in a row. Although Lin Sumo was speechless and a bit confused, he prided himself on having a good temper except when dealing with Pei Yun. So he stayed silent, treating it as weighted training.
However, during a small skirmish in the mid-game, this marksman acted like his brain had short-circuited again. Despite being squishy, he insisted on rushing forward, getting focused and killed by the enemy without dealing any damage.
Lin Sumo was using his main account. In this tier… such outrageous teammates were rare.
A moment later, Lin Sumo heard him turn on his mic.
“Are you people sick? Are you blind or brainless?”
“I went in, and you guys didn’t cover me? A bunch of trash!”
“And this mid-laner, what the fuck are you acting cool for?”
Lin Sumo, who had just gotten a triple kill, was suddenly called out. With a face full of bafflement, he slowly typed a question mark in the team chat.
He could have just muted this person and reported him after the game. But with so much going on recently, he treated it as finding some amusement amidst his busy schedule.
Who knew how the guy got triggered again, roaring once more: “What, think you’re awesome? You think you’re hot shit just because you stole a few kills? Who are you putting on airs for? What a joke!”
Lin Sumo: “?”
The direction of this scolding was becoming increasingly baffling.
saying he wasn’t annoyed would be a lie. Not every teammate treated this guy as amusement like Lin Sumo did; naturally, they were affected. Moreover, this person had fed the enemy too much of an advantage early on. Unsurprisingly, the game ended in defeat for Lin Sumo’s team.
After exiting, Lin Sumo sent a message to Pei Yun on his friends list.
[Trust-Print]: [Are you crazy today?]
Trust-Solve: [About to go crazy. Just met a confusing marksman and lost a game.]
Lin Sumo waited for a while. Just when he thought the other person wasn’t willing, he received a party invite from Pei Yun.
The corners of Lin Sumo’s mouth lifted as he moved his mouse to click accept.
That little car that had been locked up seemed to have run out to cause trouble again.
Yet, he was happy to indulge his petty thoughts.
His inner thoughts were wrapped in a thick protective layer, but someone outside was repeatedly knocking, making sounds.
[Don’t hide it.]
A feather repeatedly teased the fragile and sensitive protective layer, the intense itch forcing it to release the deeply buried secret.
Layer by layer, it was cut open and exposed.
Water spilled cannot be gathered again.
Chapter 20 β First CP β
As soon as he entered the party, Lin Sumo clamored, “Aiyaya, after playing with Brother Marksman, I feel like no other ADC plays as well as you. That’s why I came to seek refuge with you.”
Pei Yun rolled his eyes on the other side of the training room, ignored him, and clicked start directly.
In-game, Lin Sumo chatted while clearing minions in his lane. “Brother Marksman, will you come to protect me?”
Mn, disgusting Pei Yun is truly a physically and mentally refreshing activity. Lin Sumo felt his mood improving.
Pei Yun couldn’t bear it anymore. “Did you fucking fall for me?”
Lin Sumo: “……”
Why does this sound… so… weird?
Sticking to the principle of “if you’re going to disgust someone, go all the way,” Lin Sumo went along with his words. “Yes, yes, I fell for you. How did you know?”
However, after he said this, Pei Yun suddenly went silent.
Lin Sumo: “?”
“Pei Yun?”
“Hey!”
“Did you take dumb pills?”
…
Since Pei Yun wasn’t talking, Lin Sumo couldn’t be bothered with him either. So the two of them finished the second half of the game in extreme silence.
Lin Sumo canceled the ‘ready’ status and picked up his cup to get water from the dispenser. Passing by Pei Yun’s station, he reached out a hand to rest on Pei Yun’s shoulder, leaning down to be at the same height, and casually pulled one side of his headphones away. “What are you doing? I called you for ages just now and you didn’t make a peep…”
The next second, seeing the screen full of screaming bullet comments on Pei Yun’s monitor, Lin Sumo instantly fell silent.
[Ahhhhhhhh sisters, I’m shipping this first as a tribute!] [Are these two a couple? Are these two a couple? Are these two a couple?] [I bet five hundred, put it on Yu Pei’s tab.] [I can be fake, but they must be real!]
…
Lin Sumo stood there gritting his teeth, fuming with anger for a moment.
This guy… was actually streaming…!
Within ten minutes, Song Hong came up to find the two parties involved, carrying the official Weibo account that had been tagged by fans incessantly.
The other teammates also watched them with great interest.
Song Hong was a bit helpless. “I won’t say anything else. Just go search your names on Weibo yourselves and see what comes up.” Immediately, everyone in the training room took out their phones.
Half a minute later, they simultaneously saw the CP super-topic for Pei Yun and Lin Sumo, which already had over two hundred thousand followers.
Pei Yun: “……”
Lin Sumo: “……”
Yu Pei couldn’t hold back a laugh. “Not bad. In one month, from mortal enemies directly to a loving family.”
Jiang He waved his hand grandly. “Followed.”
Yu Pei and Xiao Lanyu also clicked follow without hesitation.
Lin Sumo: “……” No, what do you mean?
Lin Sumo looked up at his first CP in life, speechless for a moment.
What a strange experience.
Song Hong reminded them timely, “I won’t interfere with how you guys want to play it, BUT! Don’t let it affect the matches.”
Lin Sumo: “……”
He gritted his teeth. “Brother, you should interfere…”
Song Hong glanced at Pei Yun’s screen, confirmed his stream had just ended, and a glint of marketing genius flashed in his eyes. “You don’t know this, but actually, provided it doesn’t affect matches, many fans love shipping players as CPs, and they’re willing to spend money…”
Lin Sumo trembled with anger.
Song Hong held back a laugh. “Alright, just teasing you. It’s not a big deal, let’s just leave it alone for now. It’s already past twelve. Hurry up and train. Sleep early today; we have practice matches scheduled with Korean and North American teams tomorrow. Don’t be sleepy then.”
Lin Sumo looked like he was enduring humiliation for a greater cause. “Yes…”
Back at his computer, Lin Sumo didn’t hesitate for a second. Like avoiding a plague god, he quit the party with Pei Yun immediately.
Fuck, whoever plays games with him again is a dog!
However, Lin Sumo slapped his own face just a few hours later.
Not only did he play games with Pei Yun, but he also played intensely for five consecutive days to prepare against Team Fair!
On Wednesday, Team Trust arrived at the venue on time.
Playing at their home venue naturally alleviated some of the tension of facing a strong team.
In front of the stage, the host raised his voice passionately: “Next, the first game of the regular season BO3 between Trust and Fair officially begins!”
As the voice fell, players from both sides rushed out of the spawn point simultaneously.
Fair indeed used the fast-attack tactic, rushing to the lane right at the start to strike first. Lin Sumo arrived a bit late; Fair’s mid-laner had almost finished clearing the minions.
Lin Sumo clicked his tongue and threw a skill, which the opponent dodged. He hadn’t intended to attack so soon anyway, just wanted to create some distance to avoid getting his health whittled down.
While Fair’s mid-laner hadn’t made a move yet, as soon as his skill cooldown ended, Lin Sumo hit Fair’s mid-laner directly. Following the skill with basic attacks, the opponent’s health dropped by more than half, forcing a retreat. Lin Sumo seized the opportunity to enter the tower range with his minions and started hitting the tower.
Within half a minute, Yu Pei warned, “Solve, retreat first. Their mid-laner and jungler should be coming to surround you.”
“The opportunity is good right now,” Lin Sumo said. “How about you come support first?”
Yu Pei said while clearing the jungle, “Can’t yet. Their jungler just finished clearing and took a kill. His economy is a chunk higher than mine. Can’t beat him right now; no need to feed him another kill.”
