Chapter 21 ◎ Good Luck Next Game ◎
Hearing this, Lin Sumo quickly retreated under the tower before Cheng Yuan arrived.
“Vision is lost,” Lin Sumo, being young, could get anxious even playing a game. “But the minion wave is almost here. I can’t stay here forever.”
Pei Yun analyzed calmly, “Hiding forever isn’t a solution. Cheng Yuan shouldn’t come out immediately. Just play as you should for now; I’m coming right over.”
Lin Sumo subconsciously dragged his view on the map to Pei Yun’s location.
Pei Yun cleared the wave in less than a minute, pushed his minions into the enemy tower, and then circled back from the jungle toward Lin Sumo’s side.
“Be careful,” Yu Pei warned.
Pei Yun: “Don’t worry.”
The mid-laner Lin Sumo had crippled earlier had healed up and returned. Lin Sumo found it increasingly strenuous to trade with him while also watching out for Cheng Yuan.
Lin Sumo forced himself not to relax. Just as he cast a skill that Fair’s mid-laner dodged, Lin Sumo suddenly froze.
In League of Legends, different situations for the same hero casting the same skill produced different sound effects. A skill hitting nothing had one sound, while hitting someone had another.
Just now, Lin Sumo’s skill was dodged by Fair’s mid-laner, so logically, the normal sound effect should have played.
But Lin Sumo clearly heard the sound effect triggered by a skill hitting a person.
Lin Sumo frowned. The next second, he looked at the bush beside the river. That was the only place within the skill’s range where someone could hide.
In less than half a second, Lin Sumo quickly adjusted, refocusing on Fair’s mid-laner to prevent the opponent from noticing anything strange.
“Pei Yun, watch out for the bush on the right side of the mid-lane river. There’s someone inside!”
Pei Yun had just circled from the jungle. To get to Lin Sumo, he would inevitably pass near where the person in the bush was hiding.
Although he wouldn’t necessarily touch the bush directly, the enemy was in the dark while Pei Yun was in the light. A sneak attack while he wasn’t paying attention wasn’t impossible.
However, Pei Yun was fast. Before Lin Sumo finished speaking, he was already at the edge of the bush. But his reaction speed matched his movement speed; before Cheng Yuan could attack, he used a dash to dodge out of range. Cheng Yuan stopped hiding, and the four people from both sides engaged in a brawl in the mid-lane.
“Fuck,” Lin Sumo cursed while fighting. “No, why is everyone piling up here! Are we playing Mahjong?!”
Pei Yun frowned. “Stop barking.”
Although Pei Yun and Lin Sumo, the two carries, dealt high damage, they couldn’t withstand Cheng Yuan’s significant economic lead. In the end, they barely managed a two-for-one trade, taking down Cheng Yuan.
In the lounge, Shen Chen and Song Hong sat in front of the screen, not daring to breathe loudly.
Shen Chen looked at the economy comparison between the two sides. “No good… the economy gap is too wide. In the late game, they’ll basically be sitting ducks…”
“Ah? Ah?” Song Hong was a complete gaming idiot. “Then, then what do we do?”
Shen Chen’s eyes darkened, his tone heavy. “What else can we do? Good luck next game.”
Shen Chen hadn’t been a coach for so many years for nothing. His prediction was accurate; Trust indeed lost the first game to Fair.
During the break while they rested and adjusted in the lounge, Lin Sumo felt uncomfortable inside, and his expression wasn’t good either.
The other teammates had weathered many storms. Yu Pei patted Lin Sumo’s shoulder calmly. “Hey, don’t look so glum. Smile.”
Lin Sumo pursed his lips and didn’t speak.
Pei Yun’s expression was flat. “Hurry up and adjust. Don’t affect the next game.”
“Hey hey hey,” Jiang He chimed in with a cheeky face. “Pei Yun, do you have to be so heartless?”
He looked at Lin Sumo boisterously. “It’s fine. Let me tell you, you’re doing much better than I did. Before I came to Trust, when I lost a match, I got group-mocked by the coach, manager, and teammates until I became autistic.”
“Enough,” Yu Pei slapped the back of his head. “If you don’t shut up, believe it or not, I’ll help you reminisce about the past.”
—”Group-mocked by the coach, manager, and teammates.”
Jiang He: “……Forget it.”
Chapter 22 ◎ “Triple Kill!” ◎
A few minutes later, the second game of the BO3 began.
Although his teammates’ attempts to regulate emotions helped, the effect wasn’t significant. Lin Sumo’s hands were still cold before going on stage.
He was afraid—afraid that the team would lose the match because of him.
Thump.
Thump.
There seemed to be a large snare drum in his chest, repeatedly beating against the inner walls of his heart until he could barely withstand it.
No.
This won’t do.
He thought stubbornly, Since I am a professional player, I should effectively adjust my mindset during the match.
At least guarantee that my performance isn’t affected by my mentality.
Entering the game with his heart in his throat, Lin Sumo was distracted the whole time, not even looking closely at what heroes the opponent banned. A moment later, it was Lin Sumo’s turn to pick. He was just about to select his specialized Taliyah, and then… then the next second he saw it appear on Fair’s ban list…
Lin Sumo: “???”
No, although this sounds punchable, why didn’t the opponent target those awesome teammates but instead came for him, a weak, transparent rookie?!
Lin Sumo looked numb. It wasn’t them who lost the match just now; why did they suddenly go crazy…
Lin Sumo complained frantically in his heart. Finally, forced by circumstances, he picked Malzahar at the tail end of his selection time.
One of Malzahar’s major advantages was his strong lane-clearing ability, allowing him to whittle down the enemy tower’s health early on. However, the disadvantage was that he was relatively squishy, lacked burst damage, and had no mobility skills.
Lin Sumo still knew how to utilize strengths and avoid weaknesses. So right at the start, he rushed to the lane, planning to clear minions first and then hit the tower.
Yu Pei saw his intention and quickly reminded, “Solve, Malzahar lacks mobility, so he’s vulnerable to enemy engages and crowd control. I suggest you build Rod of Ages, Rylai’s Crystal Scepter, and Liandry’s Torment so you don’t die easily.”
“I know,” Lin Sumo responded while clearing minions, unable to hold back a self-deprecating laugh. “So basically, I still have to watch out for Cheng Yuan. I’m stuck dealing with him, huh?”
The next second, a light chuckle from Pei Yun came through the headphones.
Lin Sumo said disdainfully, “Laugh my ass. Go hit your target. I have no burst this game; don’t you know you have to carry the late game?”
Pei Yun didn’t bicker with him. He gave a “mn” and continued playing his own game.
Not long after, Lin Sumo managed to take down the opposing mid-laner. With his ultimate available, he smoothly entered his first power spike. He continued to farm steadily, checking the map every so often to avoid Cheng Yuan’s ambush.
At 6 minutes, Lin Sumo pushed the minion wave and took down Fair’s first mid-lane tower.
Lin Sumo glanced at the map and noticed Fair’s jungler, support, and marksman were all gathering near Pei Yun. He quickly finished clearing the wave. “Pei Yun, hold on.”
Pei Yun was alone over there, so Lin Sumo brought Xiao Lanyu along.
“It’s three against three anyway. I don’t believe we can’t beat them.”
Xiao Lanyu’s build had a speed boost. The two rushed directly to the lane, flanking Fair from the side.
Xiao Lanyu went in and crowd-controlled the group. Lin Sumo didn’t waste a word, unleashing a combo of W and E skills, coupled with basic attacks, beating them to half health. When the control effect wore off and the opponents wanted to retreat, Pei Yun dashed in. With one ultimate, he took down Fair’s marksman and support. Cheng Yuan, the only one left with a sliver of health, ran two steps before being killed by Pei Yun’s basic attack.
“Triple kill!”
The whole process took no more than 15 seconds, making people’s blood boil.
Outside the arena, commentators and the audience erupted in screams.
“Beautiful!” Shen Chen couldn’t help but exclaim in the lounge.
Lin Sumo’s mind had been highly focused for a short time. Now he finally took a breath. “Tch, if I hadn’t come, you would have died here. Aren’t you going to thank me?”
Pei Yun: “Scram.”
One word, as crisp as could be, without dragging things out.
Lin Sumo had taken a few hits while helping him just now and was still in a low-health state. Hearing Pei Yun’s utterly unromantic words, he decisively clicked recall. “Fine, fine, fine, I’m scramming. Bye-bye to you.”
He pursed his lips, consciously fleeing from this person.
Like two magnets of the same pole.
