Chapter 31 ◎ Go For It, I Believe In You ◎
“Don’t talk nonsense,” Lin Sumo’s ears felt a bit hot. “Where is it the same?”
“How am I talking nonsense,” Yu Pei said unconvinced. “Really, exactly the same. I even know this is called ‘catering to one’s pleasure’.”
Pei Yun: “……”
Lin Sumo: “……” Why does it feel irrefutable?
“You’re so smart.” Lin Sumo glared at Yu Pei, then continued eating the “pleasure” Pei Yun catered to him.
“Oh right,” Yu Pei remembered the serious business. “Our regular season is points-based, you should know this, right?”
Lin Sumo: “Mn, what about it?”
“We lost one game to Fair, so we are currently ranked second in points, right?”
“Yes,” Lin Sumo finally finished eating. He closed the cake box. “Captain Yu, just get to the main point.”
“I came up to find you guys just to say this,” Yu Pei had to jump to the key point. “For our next regular season match, the mid-laner and marksman will be selected from the second team. You guys…”
“It doesn’t matter,” Lin Sumo was unexpectedly optimistic. “Being able to come to such an awesome team, and starting in the first team right away, I’m already thanking heaven and earth. Now it’s just temporarily being a substitute. I’m happy to have the leisure.”
Yu Pei looked at Pei Yun again. “What about you, Pei Yun?”
Pei Yun: “I have no objection.”
“Is that so,” Yu Pei breathed a sigh of relief. “I was worried, afraid you two would mind and it would be hard to arrange.”
“Not at all,” Lin Sumo said. “I’m willing, really, I’m very willing.”
“Alright,” Yu Pei clapped his hands. “Then you guys can relax more these two days. Getting off the computer at one is fine too.”
“That’s not necessary,” Lin Sumo shook his head. “Just like usual is fine. Off at two, no need for special treatment.”
Yu Pei raised an eyebrow in surprise. “Not bad, that spirit is very good.”
Pei Yun spoke up, “Captain, how about calling those two from the second team up first? We can tell them some things to watch out for.”
Yu Pei took out his phone and said, “Oh, okay.”
The two second-team members Yu Pei called up were named Joy and Field. Lin Sumo pulled over the mid-laner named Field. “Hey, your captain told you, right? You’re playing the next regular season match, so our captain asked me to tell you some precautions.”
Although Lin Sumo looked really easy to get along with, Field naturally held an innate awe for seniors. When looked at directly by Lin Sumo, he couldn’t control his stuttering. “Ah, um yes… I know, I know.”
“Knowing is good,” Lin Sumo patted Field’s shoulder very naturally. “Don’t be nervous, I won’t eat you.”
Field still trembled. “Ah? Um…”
Lin Sumo was very good at adjusting the atmosphere between two people. He pointed at Pei Yun nearby and said, “There aren’t many precautions, but you must be especially careful of this person.”
Field looked confused. “Ah, ah? He… what’s wrong with him?”
“Him,” Lin Sumo looked solemn but used a joking tone. “He’s an old fox, commits all kinds of crimes, and most importantly, he’s a huge idiot.”
Field: “……”
Pei Yun stood not far from them and heard Lin Sumo’s words clearly. He turned around directly and said to Joy with a volume the whole room could hear, “He’s a mental patient who ran out before being cured. Don’t pay attention to him.”
Lin Sumo: “……”
Joy: “……”
Field: “……”
The result was that Lin Sumo and Pei Yun exchanged sarcasms for another ten minutes while the two second-team members shivered on the side.
“Alright, too lazy to deal with him,” Lin Sumo had a look of ‘watching an idiot.’ He turned to face Field. “Okay, I’ll talk to you instead.”
Field: “Ah… ah? Oh oh…”
Lin Sumo finally became serious. “There aren’t really key points, just pay attention to the overall coordination. Keep up with the other teammates’ rhythm. It doesn’t matter; just practice more these two days and it’ll be fine.”
Field hadn’t even reacted to his sudden seriousness. “Ah… okay…”
Lin Sumo: “Also, remember to roam and support the side lanes more. You should know this, right?”
Field: “Ah… I know.”
“That’s good then,” Lin Sumo nodded. “Nothing else to say. Ah right, I watched your previous matches. You charged too far forward in team fights. As a mage, you’re already squishy; isn’t that just courting death?”
Field clearly hadn’t expected Lin Sumo to specifically watch his match videos. Hearing Lin Sumo’s words, his ears felt a bit hot. “O-okay… I will pay attention.”
Lin Sumo froze upon hearing this.
The scene before him suddenly overlapped with memories.
At that time, Lin Sumo had only been at Trust for two days and wasn’t used to anything. After the practice match, everyone rested for a while, and the others naturally went to the replay room. But Lin Sumo didn’t know their habits, nor did he know there was such a thing as a replay room, so he just went back to the training room.
Seeing the empty training room, Lin Sumo was completely confused. He checked the time repeatedly, at a loss in the training room. He didn’t know anyone well in the team. Finally, forced by circumstances, Lin Sumo sent Pei Yun a message asking where he was.
Less than two minutes after the message was sent, the door to the training room suddenly opened. Lin Sumo was startled. Turning around, he saw Pei Yun standing by the door.
At that time, Pei Yun had darkly lectured him for a long time about going directly to the replay room after practice matches and not needing to return to the training room. By the end, Lin Sumo’s ears were burning, and he finally said, “O-okay… I will pay attention.”
Lin Sumo came back to his senses and raised his hand to pat Field’s shoulder. “Go for it, I believe in you.”
Lin Sumo looked up and met Field’s eyes.
In that instant, he saw the shadow of his former self in him.
Although his current self was only slightly more mature and steady than back then, it was better than nothing.
After all, growth is a long process. Stroke by stroke, one can paint the entire sky.
