Enemies on a Narrow Road [Esports] Chapter 5

Chapter 5 ◎ Blinded by the Outplay ◎

Pretentious prick, Lin Sumo secretly scoffed.

Okay, truthfully speaking, there was nothing wrong with what Pei Yun said.

Lin Sumo took a breath and slowly typed.

[Lin Sumo]: [Right back at you.]

The four words were like a rubber ball, kicked back and forth between them. Finally, it exploded right in the middle, the shockwave spreading to hit both of them.

Forced to abide by this rule.

Like a contract.

A moment later, the two entered the next game.

Lin Sumo casually glanced at the opponent’s IDs and noticed the enemy jungler was named “Neat-Pure”.

Could it be a pro player?

Lin Sumo rifled through all the memories in his brain. He finally recalled that about two years ago, a player named Pure had pulled off a god-tier 1v5 pentakill in a disadvantageous situation during the match point of the regular season semi-finals. That clip had spread throughout the entire LPL region at the time.

Lin Sumo guessed right. Watching the game, Shen Chen spoke up, “Watch out for the enemy jungler. You should know Pure. The one who got a pentakill in a headwind during the semis.”

Pei Yun: “Should we target him?”

Lin Sumo instinctively thought Pei Yun was asking Shen Chen, but he didn’t hear Shen Chen speak for a long time. Lin Sumo was puzzled until he heard Pei Yun ask louder, and only then did he realize Pei Yun was asking him.

Lin Sumo was confused. “You… you’re asking me? Why ask me? Just do what you think is best.”

Pei Yun: “……”

Obviously suppressing his anger, he squeezed three words out through his teeth: “Practice. Co. Ordination.”

Remembering the “keep public and private separate” agreement, Lin Sumo quickly said, “Oh, oh, oh, right, practice.”

Seeing Pei Yun looking at him like he was an idiot, Lin Sumo finally said something useful. “Since he can show off even in a headwind, let’s solve the problem at the source. Once we see him, we group up and cut him down instantly, or ambush him in advance. Don’t give him space to perform.”

Pei Yun gave a ‘mn’. “I’ll take Vayne.”

“Vayne isn’t great early game, easy to get targeted.” Lin Sumo looked at the opposing lineup. “…Pure picked Graves.”

Pei Yun casually flexed his fingers. “Doesn’t matter.”

He said faintly, “Come support more in the early game.”

Lin Sumo agreed.

At first, Lin Sumo really didn’t know what Pei Yun meant by “doesn’t matter.”

Until fifteen minutes into the game, watching Pure—who was being chased and beaten into a negative KDA by Pei Yun relying on true damage and mobility—Lin Sumo couldn’t help but gasp.

…Did this person have to be so terrifying?

He was like a nightmare crawling out of hell, hiding neither far nor near in everyone’s dreams, trapping people inadvertently so they couldn’t escape even in sleep.

Shen Chen laughed from the side. “This is great. In other families, the ADC gets chased by the enemy jungler. In our family, the ADC chases the enemy jungler.”

Pei Yun didn’t speak. With one skill, he took Pure’s head again.

At twenty-five minutes, the two of them cleanly pushed the enemy base.

At this moment, the comments in Lin Sumo’s livestream exploded once again.

[Holy crap, Print was terrifying this game.] [Does a Vayne of this level really exist?!] [First Pure gets a headwind pentakill, now Print beats him all the way home!] [Shivering. Should I change my tune and call him God Pei now?]

However, livestream comments were always a mix of good and bad, and this was no exception.

[Isn’t it normal since he doesn’t have teammates to coordinate with?] [It’s not an official match, what’s there to praise?] [Exactly, if he has skills, go do it in an official match.] [Laughing to death, a rookie shows off in a casual game and gets called God Pei? Is the bar that low?]

Lin Sumo relayed a few comments to Pei Yun, but Pei Yun didn’t care at all after hearing them. “Let them say what they want. Ignore them.”

Just as Lin Sumo was about to get some water, a hand landed on his shoulder.

Lin Sumo turned around. It was Jiang He, who had just finished a game.

Lin Sumo’s computer was still on the post-game screen. Jiang He glanced at it. “Hah, Pei Yun’s Vayne is fierce.”

“Did you forget why Yu Pei signed him in the first place?” Shen Chen asked.

Jiang He: “How could I forget? I remember it clearly.”

Lin Sumo looked confused. “What about him?”

Jiang He was puzzled and asked back, “He didn’t tell you?”

Lin Sumo shook his head.

Now he was truly curious.

“Alright,” Jiang He cleared his throat. “Captain Yu knows Pei Yun. That day he dragged him to play a game, and Pei Yun played Vayne and directly blinded Yu Pei with his mechanics. Our team happened to be short of a good ADC this season, so he shamelessly pestered him until he poached him over.”

Pei Yun sat quietly to the side, not chiming in.

Lin Sumo was shocked.

Pei Yun played a game and blinded a pro player with his outplay???!

Didn’t this guy never play games?

He looked like he had heard something unbelievable, his mouth gaping open.

Lin Sumo turned to look at Pei Yun. The person in question was very calm. Feeling the gaze, he just turned his head to look once, then turned back.

Jiang He smiled at his reaction. “I’m going back to train. You guys keep playing.”

Past midnight, shortly after Lin Sumo ended his stream, Song Hong walked into the training room and said to them, “It’s past twelve, so it’s Sunday now. Giving you a heads up, our pre-season match on Wednesday is against Kuangdao.”

He glanced at Pei Yun and Lin Sumo in the training room. “Solve and Print will start with the others to get familiar with the tournament process and practice with the teammates.”

Shen Chen leaned back in his chair. “Pre-season matches are single round-robin BO1, one game decides the winner. Kuangdao isn’t a hard team to beat. Just practice your strategies in scrims these next few days.”

Scattered responses rang out in the training room. After confirming there were no other issues, Song Hong left to let them train on their own.
