Chapter 7 β See the World β
Although this was just an ordinary pre-season game, it was Lin Sumo’s first official match. The opponent in his lane was the strongest on the enemy team, and he hadn’t been favored to win beforehand.
βWith these buffs stacked together, and considering Lin Sumo also took MVP, it really highlighted how well he had played.
Consequently, the rest of the team unanimously proposed letting Lin Sumo do the solo post-match interview that was originally meant for the captain.
They called it “letting him see the world.”
When the staff handed the microphone to Lin Sumo, the host asked, “Solve, why did you want to come in place of Charm for this interview?”
Lin Sumo: “I didn’t request it. My teammates felt that since I’m a rookie, I should come and see the world.”
The host smiled. “Okay, then may I ask, do you have any thoughts on arriving at a top-tier domestic team?”
Lin Sumo paused. “The people in the team are very nice and take good care of me. The atmosphere is usually very relaxed.”
The host smiled broadly. “It seems Player Solve has a good first impression of Trust, right?”
Lin Sumo nodded.
“As this was the first match of your professional career, what preparations did you make beforehand, and what are your thoughts on your performance?”
Lin Sumo said, “I did a lot of preparation. I played many scrims and practiced a lot in solo and duo queue. To keep up with everyone else’s rhythm, I also extended my training hours.”
He continued, “As for the match results… I’m quite satisfied.”
“Could you be more specific?” the host asked.
“Specific?” Lin Sumo thought for a moment. “Like feeling that my hard work wasn’t in vain, feeling that I performed well, and that I made a good start for my first match?”
Host: “Regarding the fact that Player Solve wasn’t looked upon favorably before the match, what is your personal take on that?”
Lin Sumo wondered internally, Is this host really not digging a pit for me?
If he really said, “Does your face hurt?”, it wouldn’t just be about not being looked upon favorably; he would be drowned alive by the netizens’ spit.
It seemed he had to avoid all the traps laid out to walk safely to the other side of the road.
So, Lin Sumo began to feign obedience. “I think it’s quite normal for a rookie not to be favored. That’s why I need to work harder to get results, to turn around the stereotypes in other people’s minds.”
After asking a few more questions, the host let Lin Sumo go back.
As soon as he returned to the lounge, Yu Pei and Jiang He grabbed his shoulders and laughed wildly.
Lin Sumo looked confused, glancing toward Xiao Lanyu and Pei Yun, who were quietly watching them go crazy. “What are you doing?”
Yu Pei laughed for a long time. “Little friend, starting to build a persona at such a young age?”
Lin Sumo was even more confused. “Huh? What persona?”
“Just now, didn’t you have a gangster face, wanting to ask people if their faces hurt?” Yu Pei tutted. “Once you get to the interview, it’s all ‘I think it’s normal for a rookie not to be favored.’ People will think you’re some innocent, obedient baby.”
Xiao Lanyu couldn’t listen anymore and interrupted him. “Yu Pei, can you have some dignity as a captain? Stop acting like a lunatic, okay?”
This time, Yu Pei stopped acting crazy in Lin Sumo’s ear… and switched to Xiao Lanyu’s ear instead.
Jiang He had laughed enough, but his hand was still on Lin Sumo’s shoulder. “If you were in the entertainment industry, building a persona would be fine. But you’re not a celebrity; a persona is useless.”
He said, “In our line of work, it’s all about results. If you play well, you play; if you play bad, you get scolded. It’s that simple.”
Lin Sumo nodded but couldn’t help defending himself. “…I couldn’t really ask them if their faces hurt, right? I’d get sprayed to death.”
The group dawdled in the lounge for a long time. It wasn’t until the team leader came to hurry them up that they slowly made their way out of the venue.
It was nearly 3:00 PM by the time they got back to the base. They ate something casually and, without even resting, went straight into the replay analysis.
Shen Chen admonished Lin Sumo, “Try not to be so reckless in matches. It’s fine against weak teams, but against strong teams, you’ll easily get targeted.”
Lin Sumo agreed, then continued to listen to Shen Chen analyze everyone else’s problems one by one.
When he heard Pei Yun’s critique, Lin Sumo almost instinctively mocked him in his heart: This guy is usually so arrogant, acting like he has no flaws, but isn’t he obediently listening to the coach’s lecture now?
Lin Sumo unconsciously glanced at Pei Yun.
Tsk… have to admit, this guy is actually quite handsome.
Pei Yun’s eyes were lowered at that moment, his long eyelashes acting like curtains covering his motionless eyes. His pale pink lips were slightly pursed, yet they didn’t look out of place on his cold, pale face. He was holding a pen, twirling it idly, and there was a small black mole below the protruding bone of his wrist. Even though he was listening to his own critique, he only nodded occasionally, looking completely languid.
A description suddenly popped into Lin Sumo’s mind.
…An abstinent male god?
Realizing this, Lin Sumo quickly pulled back his thoughts and shook his head frantically inside.
βForget it, this guy doesn’t deserve that kind of praise.
