Chapter 26: Teacher, I’ve Been Quite Happy Recently…
Every school has a freshman ceremony, and Imperial Star University is no exception. The counselor asked the monitor to count which students would participate. As a result, no one was participating. The Journalism major had only one class, with more than forty people in the class, and enthusiasm couldn’t be mobilized at all. Apart from necessary classes, they just wanted to go back to the dorm and lie down.
The counselor had no choice. The Journalism major was a lone seedling; someone had to hold up the scene and participate.
“Ye Zhile, Leng Xingtu, you two go to the Affairs Center later to find Teacher Liu Yang. He is the main person in charge of the freshman ceremony,” the counselor named them directly.
“Ah?” The two were equally unwilling.
“Ah what ah? Our Journalism major can’t be unable to even produce people, right?” The counselor said. “Since no one is willing, you two rehearse with other majors. Consider it representing our major.”
“Oh…” Ye Zhile and Leng Xingtu looked at each other and laughed out loud.
After class, the two found Teacher Liu Yang and explained their intention. Teacher Liu Yang nodded. “Your counselor already told me. This time, besides being responsible for the overall performance of the freshman ceremony, I also organized a play myself. It’s about school bullying. I’ll give you the script later; take a look first.”
“Okay.”
A moment later, Ye Zhile and Leng Xingtu got the script. The script told the story of Zhu Yu, from a poor family, who studied hard at school every day to get into a good university, but was bullied miserably because those bad students found him unpleasant to the eye. Zhu Yu couldn’t bear it and finally chose to jump off a building to his death.
Teacher Liu Yang said he wanted to choose the male lead and asked if the two could dance. Both shook their heads in unison.
“Teacher! I can!” At this moment, Cheng Tingyan walked over. He greeted Teacher Liu Yang. “Teacher Liu Yang, I can dance. I also want to participate in this play rehearsal.”
“Your counselor only told me about two people,” Teacher Liu Yang said.
“I just told the counselor, and the counselor agreed,” Cheng Tingyan said, glancing at Ye Zhile proudly.
Ye Zhile didn’t pay attention to him.
“Alright, you three perform a segment later. Let me take a look.”
“Teacher, what roles are there?” Leng Xingtu asked.
Teacher Liu Yang asked them to look at the back of the script. The required roles were: the bullied, the bully, the bystander who knows the secret, and roles like teachers, classmates, parents, etc. Except for the bullied and the bystander who knows the secret requiring one protagonist, the rest needed several people to complete.
“Teacher, I want the role of the bystander who knows the secret,” Leng Xingtu said.
Ye Zhile quickly raised his hand like a primary school student. “Teacher, I want the role of the bully, or a classmate is fine too. If not… I’ll be a parent.”
Leng Xingtu laughed out loud. “Being a dad to a wolf cub during military training, and now you want to be a dad to someone in a play.”
Ye Zhile retorted in a whisper, “I didn’t.”
Teacher Liu Yang seriously examined Ye Zhile’s appearance and temperament, shaking his head directly to reject. “No, you and this student perform a segment for me to see.”
Ye Zhile shut his mouth obediently. Teacher Liu Yang asked them to cry for a segment. Cheng Tingyan immediately squeezed out two tears. He deliberately let the tears hang on his face, wanting to highlight that feeling of pitifulness.
Teacher Liu Yang glanced at him. Seeing Ye Zhile couldn’t cry, he said, “Think about sad things.”
“Sad things?” Ye Zhile thought about it, really couldn’t think of any. He smiled awkwardly. “Teacher, I don’t have sad things; I’ve been quite happy recently.”
Teacher Liu Yang’s face darkened, staring at Ye Zhile unblinkingly. Ye Zhile was scared into submission. He shrank his neck, not daring to look at the teacher’s eyes. “Teacher, sorry…”
Teacher Liu Yang smiled, satisfied. “It’s you.”
“Ah?” Ye Zhile looked up. Cheng Tingyan was dissatisfied. “Why, Teacher? He didn’t even cry.”
“He didn’t cry, but his temperament is there. He has that demeanor,” Teacher Liu Yang looked helpless. “You’re being bullied, yet you look at the bully with that shy and timid look; do you want him to fall in love with you?”
“Hahaha…” Leng Xingtu laughed out loud without scruples.
Cheng Tingyan’s face turned red. “Then, then I…”
“You, the bully,” Teacher Liu Yang said.
Leng Xingtu spoke up again. “Teacher, you really chose right. Student Cheng Tingyan looks like a bully in both appearance and temperament.”
“Leng Xingtu! You!” Cheng Tingyan fumed, scratching crazy at Leng Xingtu’s smug face.
“Alright, go back. I’ll notify you of the rehearsal time.”
“Okay, Teacher.”
Ye Zhile came out of the bathroom. He blew his hair dry and climbed into bed, picking up his phone to call Wen Yumo. No one answered. He muttered, “Why not answering the phone on a business trip?”
He called Ye Zhichen again. When connected, he asked directly, “Second Brother, tell me the truth, did Dad and Father go to the Federation? Are the Federation and the Empire at war?”
There was silence on the other end for a moment, then a helpless sigh. “Haven’t started fighting yet. Doesn’t it need Father to preside over it? And Dad is an interstellar translator; if he doesn’t go, who understands those aliens’ bird language?”
Ye Zhile felt a lump in his throat. Ye Zhichen comforted him on the other end. “Don’t worry, Dad and Father will be fine. Don’t overthink.”
“Then why didn’t you tell me?” Ye Zhile had a thick nasal sound. “I’m not a child. Would I unreasonably stop them from going?”
“No, they didn’t say because they were afraid you’d worry,” Ye Zhichen comforted him. “Be good. When they finish, Father and Dad will come back. This war might not necessarily happen, don’t think nonsense, okay?”
Ye Zhile sniffled. “Understood. Are you and Big Brother still in the Empire?”
“Here, at the Military Department. If we were leaving, we’d tell our Lele, right?” Ye Zhichen teased him.
Ye Zhile gave a light hmph and hung up the phone.
He lay on the bed, thinking Dad and Father probably went when Big Brother and Second Brother came back. Ye Zhile sighed, silently praying for Dad and Father’s safety in his heart.
Rehearsal started the next afternoon. The Mech Department picked ten people, and the Arts College picked a few Omegas. Ye Zhile saw Lu Xingyan when he arrived. He waved. “Brother Xingyan.”
Lu Xingyan also waved with a smile, and greeted Leng Xingtu, who had a cold face. Leng Xingtu glanced at him without responding. Lu Xingyan sneered, not caring much. At this time, his roommate beside him nudged him. “Hey! Your boyfriend?”
“Which one?” Lu Xingyan didn’t know if he meant Ye Zhile or Leng Xingtu. The roommate said, “The one next to Leng Xingtu, Journalism major, is he called Ye Zhile?”
“Not boyfriend.” Lu Xingyan thought regretfully, If only he were a boyfriend. Such a cute and simple Omega belonging only to him, how happy that would be.
“That Leng Xingtu, is there an Alpha?” The roommate asked again. Lu Xingyan denied it directly. “You can’t catch him, don’t think about it.”
That person was arrogant to death. If anyone dated him, wouldn’t they have to beg him? And he felt his roommate wasn’t worthy of Leng Xingtu.
“Hey, how do you speak! Can’t I just ask?”
