Chapter 82: Our Boss Is Acquainted with You
Ji Shuohan had left once again. Ye Zhile’s spirits were at an all-time low. He stayed cooped up in the house all day, never stepping foot outside. His grandmother, worried about him, would go upstairs from time to time to check on him, feeling his forehead to see if he had a fever. Fortunately, Ye Zhile’s physical health was fine.
“Lele.” Grandma sat on the edge of the bed, stroking Ye Zhile’s hair. “Tell Grandma, what’s wrong?”
“It’s nothing, Grandma. You don’t need to worry.” Ye Zhile held his grandmother’s hand and smiled.
Grandma’s heart ached at the sight. “Silly child, are you still trying to put on a brave face in front of Grandma?”
Ye Zhile gave a light chuckle but didn’t speak.
Ye Zhile had clearly already let go. If there was no love, then there was no love; it couldn’t be forced. But now that the man had regained his senses, he had come running over to say sorry. That “I’m sorry” was said so naturally, as if it could dissolve all the harm he had caused and excuse his actions during his memory loss.
Ye Zhile didn’t know what he wanted anymore. He felt a sense of indignation. The one who had wronged him was the Ji Shuohan after the memory loss, not the one from before. Yet, they were the same person, which made him feel conflicted and troubled.
“Lele, if the Supreme Leader makes amends, would you forgive him?” Grandma asked.
Ye Zhile fell into deep thought for a moment. Finally, he shook his head and gave a soft laugh. “Forget it. I don’t want to be with him anymore. He told me today that he’s going to the frontier… Grandma, I don’t want to wait for him in fear and trepidation anymore. If it’s meant to be a regret, then let it be. It’s better than having something only to lose it again.”
He truly didn’t want to experience such a thing a second time. That endless waiting day and night, only to have a stranger return—it was too exhausting. He couldn’t afford to toss and turn like that again.
“Whatever Lele wants is fine. Grandma respects your thoughts.” Grandma patted his head. Ye Zhile leaned into his grandmother’s embrace. “Thank you, Grandma.”
Even though Ye Zhile comforted himself this way, his heart remained heavy. He couldn’t think clearly or see a way forward. Fearing that his health would decline if this continued, Grandma wanted him to go out and play. Ye Zhile was usually reluctant to move, only occasionally lying in the front yard to soak up the sun or playing with Dudu, teaching him to call for “Daddy.”
Realizing that Dudu didn’t have a formal name yet, Ye Zhile decided to give him one: Ye Yunchu. He felt that the character Yun (Cloud) sounded gentle and poetic, while Chu (Beginning) represented the start of a new day.
“Yunchu…” Ye Zhile murmured Dudu’s name while caressing his small face. Dudu opened his little mouth and suddenly spoke, “Ba… ba…”
Ye Zhile froze, then immediately broke into a wide smile. “Dudu called me Daddy?”
“Ba… ba…” Dudu babbled.
Ye Zhile’s eyes grew moist as he pulled Dudu into his arms, kissing his cheek. “Dudu…”
Ye Zhile intentionally avoided the news broadcasts, afraid of seeing bad news. He admitted he was a bit jumpy. Even though they were divorced and his parting words had been tough, now that the man had truly gone to the frontier, he still hoped he would be okay. He didn’t want Dudu to grow up without a father…
“Lele.” Grandma entered his room and took his hand. “Do you want to go to Shenyou Island for a visit?”
“Where is Shenyou Island?” Ye Zhile asked.
“I’m not too sure. I heard Xiao Yu say we have to go out to sea by boat. I was thinking you could go with Xiao Yu. He’s an Alpha, so he can take care of you a bit.” Grandma said happily, “I heard Shenyou Island is very fun! It’s perfect for young people like you. So go together, Lele.”
“Grandma, you’re troubling him too much,” Ye Zhile laughed helplessly.
“It’s no trouble,” Grandma said. “Xiao Yu gave me the tickets and asked me to invite you. I thought since you two are about the same age, you’d definitely get along. Be good, go out and have some fun. I’ll look after Dudu for you.”
“I’ll take Dudu with me. He’d be bored at home by himself,” Ye Zhile said.
“He’s not even a year old yet; what does he know about being bored?” Grandma countered.
Ye Zhile giggled. “I just don’t want to leave Dudu. I’ll miss him.”
“Alright then. Take Dudu with you, but pay close attention.”
“Okay.”
This was Ye Zhile’s first time on a cruise ship. His family was always busy, and they rarely took him out to play since he was a child—they were rarely even home. This was his first time traveling on his own.
Ye Zhile boarded the cruise with Dudu. The ship was incredibly luxurious, and it seemed someone was hosting a party. People were dressed in colorful, glamorous, and magnificent attire. It was rare to see someone like Ye Zhile, dressed in a simple grey jacket and casual pants. Curious gazes sized him up, but Ye Zhile didn’t mind, even returning them with a gentle smile.
A birthday banquet was being held, and the scene was exceptionally lively. Ye Zhile originally wanted to walk away and take Dudu outside to play, but the wind outside was strong, and going back to the room was boring. So, he sat in a corner with Dudu to join in the excitement.
“Hello, Mister.”
Ye Zhile was just clapping Dudu’s small hands to help celebrate the birthday when a bodyguard in black walked up to them. Ye Zhile subconsciously held Dudu tighter. “What is it?”
“Please don’t be nervous, Mister. My boss—the host of this birthday banquet—would like to invite you over for a seat,” the bodyguard said as gently as possible.
Ye Zhile shook his head. “I don’t know your boss. If there’s anything to say, say it here.”
“But our boss knows you, and he knows Supreme Leader Ji as well.” The bodyguard noted that Ye Zhile was still very guarded, so he added, “Does Mister Ye not wish to know about Supreme Leader Ji’s situation at the frontier?”
Why would he want to know? They were already divorced, Ye Zhile thought, but he still hesitated.
“Lele! Don’t listen to him!” Lu Xiaoyu had just returned and saw someone trying to take Ye Zhile away. He immediately stepped forward to stop them.
Hearing this, Ye Zhile said, “I don’t want to see your boss. You can go.”
The bodyguard smiled without saying a word, then turned and left.
“Lele, although few people here know your identity, you still have to be careful. Don’t be deceived. In a place where you’re a stranger, anyone who knows your identity the moment you arrive is definitely not a good person,” Lu Xiaoyu warned him.
Ye Zhile nodded. “Okay, I will.”
Ye Zhile felt a lingering sense of fear. If it were just him, he wouldn’t be so afraid, but Dudu was by his side. Dudu was still so small; he absolutely could not be allowed to suffer any harm.
Ye Zhile didn’t sit in the hall for long before carrying Dudu back to their room. The cruise had many guest rooms. Ye Zhile took the key card given by the waiter and went up to the third floor. As he swiped the card to enter, a figure flashed past the corner of the hallway.
Dudu sat on the bed, playing with the jacket Ye Zhile had taken off. It carried Ye Zhile’s pheromones, and he wanted to bite it, but Ye Zhile quickly took it away. “Dudu, the clothes are dirty. You can’t bite them.”
“Ba… ba…” Dudu called out with his small mouth. Ye Zhile’s heart melted at the sound, and he leaned down to kiss him. “Good baby…”
Just as Ye Zhile was preparing to lie down and rest, someone rang the doorbell. Ye Zhile walked to the peephole and saw a waiter standing at the door. “What is it?”
“Hello, I’m delivering a late-night snack for you,” the waiter said.
Ye Zhile opened the door, but the waiter suddenly pulled a spray from his pocket and sprayed it directly at him. Ye Zhile felt his head spin, and in the next second, he collapsed to the ground.
